I tried switching to a Proffessor and was running ruins 4 at rank 1. To be honest I've been having more luck with the pixies in tower 1 as a rank 6 Auror, so I think I will stick with that.
I was finally able to complete the Formidable Pixies task after burning through endless runes in Chamber IV mostly. It feels great to be rid of it at last but I still maintain it's a bit too frustrating due to the apparent randomness.
I'm fine with tasks being challenging but wasting like 30 runes on a single one ends up being more frustrating than fun.
It's Epically stupid but can be fixed with one minor tweak. Even make it Formidable or higher so have elites imposing dangerous and fierce count as well. Just like how in PoGo Great and Excellent count for a nice objective.

while I know I have defeated well more than 10 pixies since starting this assignment, but my tally continues to read 3/10. Just today alone I defeated 3 in different fortresses - after each I would look at my assignments and it won’t move from 3/10.
Extremely frustrates at this point since I’m wasting so much time when I know I’ve completed this task.
I'm on an iPhone and I am 99% certain there's a bug in the game. My counter is at 0 but I fought against a formidable pixie today and it did not count. I know there are different kinds, but its title definitely said "formidable". This is really frustrating...

As a magizoologist, I feel everyone's pain on this as it took me a few weeks (maybe even a month and change) to complete this but let me play devil's advocate. I blew through all the SOS challenges up to that point as I'm sure many others have, so the frustration for me and potentially others,isn't that this one is hard, it's that it's hard after so many easy ones. Like most the other witches and wizards who have passed it, I don't mind it as much anymore. The brilliant events kept me occupied enough that when I did complete it, it was "oh, nice" versus a "FINALLY!!!" And it definitely taught me patience so the doxy/werewolf one didn't frustrate me nearly as much as it might have. Keep at it witches and wizards, like @ripokey said, there are a finite amount of assignments (for now) so enjoy them. You'll get all 10 of those obnoxious pixies eventually. Good luck!
This task is beyond frustrating. It literally has almost made me step away from the game. SoS quests are basically the plot of the game aside from brilliant events. It has been supremely discouraging spending literally over a MONTH on this assignment.
I was going through them quick, but this is just plain painful. I don't need to blast through but over a month is nothing other than stupid and bad game design.
It really should count higher difficulty pixies. The odds of running into a specific monster AND level of difficulty is foolish. And there seems to be no logic to increasing spawns. I am a Professor and I have spent my time both in Ruins and Tower 2. Tower 2 often spawns Pixies that are too strong and highest level ruins consistently spawns pixies that are too low level.
I have done a solo run every day as well as at least one group run everyday. After one month and at LEAST TWO TRIES a day that is at LEAST 60 runs (on community day I blew through 23 runes). So In 83+ runs I am only at 7/10 pixies. Even running and going back to a fight to spawn enemies fails to help.
And to top it off my partner I play with is now on the 10 formidable pixies and now we have to share kills.
This needs to change. It is unacceptable.
Edit: to those claiming beating this "challenge" will feel good because it is difficult get flippin real. Random Number Generators are not a substitute for difficulty. When you rely on random numbers, with low odds, you simply make it take longer for the majority. Randomness like this makes it so some people win quick, most win slow, and the REALLY unlucky winners get to be on a almost never ending journey. And proper game design should minimize frustration. (Looking at you runestones. Plenty of games have consumables that vanish and don't punish the player with a lost consumable on game bugs disconnecting fights. Other games don't eat my rare resources. Get with it.).
Same here on not getting formidable pixies. I rarely come across one in my challenges. Is there a certain type rune stone that pops up with them more than another? Or is a certain chamber? I’m a professor & definitely getting frustrated. Been trying to complete this one for what seems like forever at this point.
@Sokrblnd04, they have to be formidable pixies, specifically (two stars). Not common pixies (1 star), imposing pixies (3 stars), or dangerous pixies (4 stars). When you reach this task they seem to disappear @SaffronBay, and it can feel frustrating when you complete several fortress challenges without seeing one. You'll get all ten eventually though, I can assure you. There's no need to hurry either, because there are only a few more sets of SOS assignments to complete after this one until they release more. 😉
@SaffronBay as a fellow professor who battled solo during this SOS task, I found most of mine in Ruins IV. It took about 30 battles I think. If you can battle with others, you can battle higher, and I think you’ll see more of them. That’s been my experience and how we’ve gotten them for friends on this task. But it does take a little time either way.

I say keep it. It’s been **** trying to find em, but I still enjoy it. It’s a difficult task for sure, and I don’t want to think of what else they may nerf if they start with this. It’ll be such an accomplishment when I get it finished... it should be an achievement in it self! 😂

Me and my wife just caught 4 each on floors 6 and 7 with random lvl 1 runes.
Before today we always were farming lvl 4 and rarely saw them.

@IMayMayI - They have to be formidable pixies. So any other power of pixie won't count to the tally.

I have fought several in the chambers, and beat them. But I don’t get credit for them all
