Ok now I know Niantic wants me to drive while playing. This morning 5:45AM -8:00 Am I got 2 doxys and 31 Leprechauns. Playing in my area on my bike—fricking pathetic and a total waste of my sleeping time.
After my first sample of 4-doxys and 28 leprechauns during the Brilliant event, I figured the sample was tainted because of the event but, NO!!!

It seems region has a pretty significant impact on Oddities. I've encountered an abundance of doxies, pixies, leprechauns, erklings, centaurs, vampires, and werewolves. Horned serpents though? Only two since the game went live here in the US. I spotted those one early morning when it happened to be cool and rainy, which is uncommon in West Texas during the summer. The fact that I've seen a couple gives me hope that I'll see more eventually, but meanwhile I'm totally jealous of players in other regions who see some every day.
I agree with @Dogoutlaw that there's probably no trick to it. Your odds are the same driving across town or standing in your kitchen. Confirmation bias comes into play in situations like these. I've been guilty of it too. I'll decide that going to a certain place at a certain time will result in a greater chance of success. If I find what I'm looking for, my bias is confirmed. If not, I'll try again tomorrow, and maybe then I'll be correct. It just takes patience. There's nothing you're going to miss out on if it takes weeks to complete an SOS assignment. You'll finish it eventually, so relax and enjoy yourself. If it takes you longer than others to complete a particular assignment, it doesn't mean they're better players than you are, or that you should try harder. We've all fallen victim to the mysterious ways of RNGesus, and it's best to just smile and roll with it.
@Acumen I agree with you that there's no need to rush, keep at it and eventually the achievements will be completed and pages will be prestiged.
To your response to the OP about driving around, just a small correction. I think what you say is true that any given spawn point has the same chance of having a doxy (or anything else) pop up. However, if you drive around town you will pass by lots more spawn points, thus increasing your chance of finding what you're looking for. I'm not suggesting we should all drive and play, just clarifying the point I think OP was making.
@MtPollux agreed. And there are definitely spots I’ve found around my town with much higher spawn rates for all families, including oddities. Often it’ll be a random greenhouse on a corner somewhere. I got lucky and found one spot near my home with a fortress, two greenhouses, and five inns, plus an insanely high spawn rate. That’s usually where I’ll hang out while playing.
Agreed @WerewolfChaser. I'm just lucky I suppose because my apartment is one spot where I see plenty of oddities during the dawn, dusk, and night hours. Then there's my favorite spot less than 2km from my home.
@WerewolfChaser agreed. I’ve been driving hubby around in evenings to replenish his SE, he goes through it way faster than me. We’ve noticed a few areas oddities like. Now we know that’s where to go for oddity hunting. It’s just at edge of city center area, so not far to walk once we drive into town. And thankfully, they like our house too. A bunch spawned last night actually. Just wish those doxies liked dusk instead of dawn!!
I've been waking up early lately, and I figured out that during the last 20 minutes of dawn, is when I find a single Doxy. Doesn't work everyday at all.. sometimes it shows up, sometimes it doesn't. And if I find one, I usually jus go back to sleep, because all other days that I waited around, I never saw another.
Today has been the first day EVER that I actually encountered TWO doxy. And just the day before I saw none, so yeah.
I really believe there's no trick to it... they're just extremely rare. My area is amazing for all other types. Doxy are the only problematic ones, haha.
@WerewolfChaser I understand now what you meant by how oddities are territorial. I went to a local spot were vampires spawn every night, even last night, hoping that since its an oddity, werewolves would appear there too. But I guess werewolves don't hang out with vampires 😁I found a few werewolves were I've never seen oddities at all before!

I see your point when you say "enjoy", but the thing is, if something it's only found at dawn and daily you go to work around 9... Either you are *very* lucky, or the odds to complete a task like this are close to none.
You kind of *have* to wake up early to at least give it a try... No...?
you have to make the commitment to get up early enough and then, in a team of at least 2 people, go for a drive from shopping mall parking lot to shopping mall parking lot, or other oddity hot spots you might discover

went out this morning (saturday) before sunrise (about 5:45) for a drive, in a team of two
my wife would tap on every oddity trace that came up on my phone if i was driving at the time (lots of leprechauns and centaurs). if it was a doxy, i would find a safe place to pull over and park, then take back my phone and deal with the doxy. sometimes the doxy will have attacked me multiple times but it is not a big deal because it does very little damage to me per hit while my stamina is high enough to not worry
in big parking lot of shopping mall, just drive big S curves from one end to the other, and one side to the other, and pull over and park when you find one. at 6-7am, those parking lots are empty
in the last 5 minutes of dawn today, i got my 10th (25/25). then, because of current bugs from 2.4.0 update and my fear of getting ripped off by app glitch, i rebooted phone, then placed the image that took me from rank 65 to rank 65*, then re-booted again, then prestiged the page from plain to bronze
so i got 10 in about 90 mins. and my wife got 7 (she had started at 20/25) and once she placed and prestiged on her phone, she paid more attention to tapping the oddity traces on my phone than on hers, but still managed to get 2 more for herself
funny thing, we both have identical iphone models and sat side by side in car, yet about half the time the doxy would appear on one iphone but not the other - how can that be?
anyway, i am sure my experience today won’t necessarily be the same as anyone’s, but i share it here in case you want to give it a try
Another trace potion update i wanted to share- which il copy & paste into a Doxies thread as it may be helpful-
Ive used the trace tonic the last 2 mornings while still dawn- think around 7am, and along side the other 10 on tues & 11 today- normal confoundables- i got 4 doxies tue, 3 today with added bonus of a horned serpent each day.
So it was well worth it i thought, finally getting there with doxies think 18 of 25 at last! 😊 now dawn is getting later that's been a big help!
I guess the 2 hour window comment is right. I wok up and turned on the game around 7 am in bed (its gonna be a long day at work and just wanted the log in bonus). I found it wierd there were 5 oddities surrounding my house, clicked, and they were all doxys!!!!! I've been playing since launch and this is the first time I've seen them! (At first I thought it had something to do with the rain)

I've encountered just one and spend many days and walk many many steps.

@SirDalamar orrrrr they don’t want us rushing through certain foundables...🤷🏼♀️ Doesn’t mean you need to drive to get them.
They definitely don’t show up every day where I am. I get anywhere from 0-3. Mostly 0.

Guys and gals I'll share a tip.
Oddities tend to spawn in the same spots. It may be a different oddity but they are all quite territorial.
Good to work out exactly where oddities spawn in your play area.
Then you will have success with doxys, werewolves and the rest.
Find your local hiding spots.
I have about a 2km route. There are 5 spots that I stop to have a look to see what's around.
