I agree with most of what you wrote, except that I would not like being forced to pay for an event that isn't available at no charge. That wouldn't be right and I'd likely just stop playing. Why? While I agree that those who wish to accelerate achievements can do so by paying for it, restricting some content to only those who can afford it creates a class system for players. I know that $10 may not seem like much to most (myself included), there are a lot of younger players who don't have that money. Excluding them from playing parts of the game just isn't right.
As you pointed out, pacing yourself and not going after the max every event allows gradual progression without paying for it. I've yet to experience any event that felt like a cash grab.
@Zambiffity did you make sure that the eggs' images does not need to be placed. Maybe you have reached the maximum number of fragments that needs to be placed before you can get more fragments for those eggs. Check the Oddities III and IV registry pages.
The egg fragments on Oddity page III don’t seem to be counting on that page. I’m hearing page III and IV are reversed is this going to be corrected soon?
I have been opening portkeys for Oddities III but they are not being counted in the special assignment. Any advice on how to get the counter working? Anyone else with this problem?
@Not4u13 The idea is that the event itself is free and completely accessible to all, but we'd have the option to pay for some tasks (whether they're the only tasks or in addition to the normal ones) to earn some items. e.g. For Adversary Events, everyone would get boosted Adversaries, reduced brew times, guaranteed fortress foundables in F4+, spenergy from the Fortress etc., but they could have made the bonus tasks a paid option instead of for everyone (and change up the rewards a bit to make it worth it). Pokémon Go do this for Community Days. The one yesterday gave 2 Incense, 1 Star Piece (gives extra star dust used to level Pokémon) and a **** Radar (to fight Team Go **** leaders - kinda like EDMs), as well as balls, berries, XP, Stardust, and Pokémon encounters. The **** Radar alone costs double the ticket price, so it's great value if you normally buy some of the items.
I agree normal monthly events shouldn't have any boosts or features behind a paywall. However, there will likely be paid events in the future (like the Fan Festival in Indianapolis). Though it would be great if they could do a remote event like Pokémon Go did last year and will do in a couple of weeks, so people who can't travel get a chance to do a Fan Festival. Pokémon Go also usually has a couple of other paid events a year with exclusive content (e.g. early access to a Pokémon and items), but they add some content for free like certain Pokémon boosted and a new shiny.
Edit: Not sure why **** is being censored out. 😂 Maybe because they can be weapons. (For those who don't know what it means, it's the Raccoon's name in Guardians of the Galaxy. 😁 Also a lettuce and a spaceship engine.)

So the Fireball and Opaleye eggs are counting for Task 7 - Oddities IV, and the Vipertooth and Welsh Green eggs are counting for Task 6 - Oddities III. (Unless you mean none of the ones you've opened are counting for either task? If so, contact in-game support.)
Never managed many eggs last time. Why put the eggs in portkeys when more than half the players can't use adventure sync so will never get the egg fragments. Even purchasing keys makes little difference. Put thing right one thing at a time and release incremental updates like other Niantic games.
The portkeys are peculiar portkeys, they appear when you do not have room for them. My advice is to walk, but not open them until you have another in sight. Then, just select one wrackspurt and exit the screens as quickly as possible to collect the one on the ground. Not a feat to do while a passenger in a vehicle.
This has been a great event so far, but I'm slowing down. Got my Oddities III page to gold yesterday and got the dragons starred. Figure I've done about 50 portkeys but I only have 4 silver keys left and it's a bummer that there is another portkey heavy event waiting in the wings. I do like that it's been a very low key event for potions, have been able to rebuild my stocks of potions and ingredients - and with the plethora of gold gifts have been able to invest in capacity upgrades to get in a good place for the Lethal Adversaries.
Overall great event but I do agree with other posters that it would have been nice to have a bonus task list as well as some spacing out between this and the likely upcoming 1920s event.
@hpwulola I used 6 silver keys at once (after buying 10) only to find that the tasks were switched. I think some free silver keys for all players are in order. I finished the event, but wasted a lot of gold due to the coding error.
Where are all of the Chinese Fireballs? I'm almost done this and stuck at 2 of the Fireballs. Even adding the extra trace charm didn't bring more up. Lots of Fluffy though
There was a bit of dyslexia with the egg tasks. Page 4 eggs (blue or green) are counting as page 3 for task and page 3 (red or opal) eggs are counting for page 4. Open either a blue or green portkeys to see if that counts for your task. Also to complete you have to open the portkey choose your wrackspurts and receive the egg reward at the end.
Fyi everyone, Niantic just posted on Twitter that the current egg count is close to 3M so still some work to do for the brew time bonuses - keep up the good work!

@hpwulola I can't confirm that the tasks are switched, but I opened 5 Green portkeys without updating the Welsh egg task.

@Yodalino use tonic for effect finding chinese fireball (even trace charm there's low chance foundable chinese fireball).
Since waiting for lethal adveseries why add friend for PoGo fest finding egg too. My HPWU was max out too.
