The trace charm does spawn at least one other trace of the one you apply the charm so it does help. I used it to complete McGonagall and place the image too.
@Yohanes12 :"@AllycatCoven if you nearby greenhouse, you're lucky to finish task. But if no one greenhouse in your map, too bad for new normal task too."
Exactly! The closet greenhouse to me is the other side of a divided highway miles away! Plus my car has been in the shop for over a week now. Lucky for me, my Hubby doesn't mind me riding along in his truck and will even park for me sometimes, so I can catch a few greenhouses that way!
had maybe three tonics at the start and none of them yielded the portraits. rolled around outside about an hour still nothing. finally ran out and bought one and slowly they started popping up😂
@NOT4U13 right, well as I said, the last several times I've used trace charms they did not do that for me so 🤷🏻♀️ And either way in the past, foundables produced by trace charms did not count toward event tasks. But it's amazing if that has changed... Or at least it will be if the trace charm stops glitching
I finished the o.w.l event but the game did not register the last alohamora ? When I tried to collect the reward the game froze and wouldn't let me collect my keys and the total reward. 🤔 why?
I've officially given up on completing this "special assignment." I've completed all tasks EXCEPT the 10 Great Alohomoras. Even with TTD's I've barely obtained 10 total traces that use the Alohomora cast. Were Alohomoras deliberately REDUCED for this round? 😡
I have three more Alohomora to get and 43 minutes. I have only seen 12 total in three days with multiple TfT and using all of my charms. This was a bust and things seem to be getting worse all the time in the game.
@hpwulola@HPWUTeam I completed everything in this event that I could do from my home, but am missing the 3 greenhouses because I am housebound at the moment. Since the description said we’d be able to complete the event from anywhere, I’m wondering if you will please give me, and others in similar situations, the rewards we should have been able to access if the event could actually be done from home? Thank you for considering.
4 minutes remain in this event. I completed 3 dark chambers and the master notes on potions. I was unable to complete any of the other tasks - foundables required for completion were nowhere to be found. I am in an area that is still in lockdown. Events are becoming increasingly impossible to complete. Do the developers not understand that the game needs elements of fun and some sense of satisfaction if you want us to keep playing? The rewards are required to progress but they are unattainable. HPWU has become one frustration after another.
@HPWUTeam thank you very much for this wonderful game.
The special assignment was mostly completed within the first 5 hours of the game. I used one Tonic for Trace Detection, and just let the rest of the traces come to me when I turn on the game to do the master notes. It took me until early evening today to complete the greenhouse assignment because my granddoggie did not want to walk further this weekend so I had to do the extra walk.
The Fortress challenges went well since I uninstalled and reinstalled the game. My only concern is the GPS fix of my avatar. It keeps changing. It showed me walking across the street from where I truly was, in the middle of the street, much further from the POI than I truly was... This has been happening since before the last Adversaries Event when I reinstalled the game. @hpwulola any suggestion(s) on how I can correct this?
@RachH25 : There might be some confusion about the different parts of the trace charm; also, while @Not4u13 correctly pointed out that the trace charm can help here, parts of his statement strictly were not totally correct...
So, there are different S.O.S. nodes that are discussed in this context.
One is "Lost and Foundables" in CE2 at level 26 which grants an extra fragment for every foundable that is returned. While this is super helpful in general, it does not help for quests because what counts are returned FOUNDABLES, not returned FRAGMENTS.
The other node is "Knowledge is Power", very high up in CE1. What this does is that it guarantees that one of the traces you get from using a trace charm is of at least the same or higher emergency level. So, when you cast the spell on an emergency foundable, you will get at least one more emergency foundable. However, this new foundable is not necessarily the same as the one you casted the charm on. That said, it seems to me that it uses the same chances that are valid at the time.
Like, normally the most common emergency trace is the 3HD and casting the trace charm on it will more often then not reveal another 3HD. Likewise, during events like this when a specific emergency trace is boosted, chances are higher that you will get that over other emergency traces. E.g. I think I used 4 charms on McGonagals during this event and got another McGonagal in 2 cases.
Finally, there is a peculiar behavior of the trace charm that you occasionally actually really get a copy of the original charm. Or, more precisely: You cast the charm on a trace, return that foundable and when you go back to the map, the foundable is still there and you can return it a second time. HOWEVER, for some reason this seems to depend the origin of the original foundable: If it just a regular spawn, this seems to be the default behavior (occasionally it does not work, not sure if that is because the originally trace expired). If it is from a dark detector you also get the copy, but one of the two will only count for one fragment, even if you have "Lost and Foundables". And finally, for traces from TTD this does not work at all.
Not sure if the weird copy is still a thing; I'm pretty sure that this is not the intended behavior and they might have fixed this with some of the recent updates (I'm thinking about the recent f* up where the trace charm didn't work at all, maybe this was an attempt to fix it). I didn't pay too much attention in the last couple of days, but every time I did I think I did not get the second copy and also I had to restart the app more often to see the trace charm founables at all, which was something I hadn't had to do in a while...
Long story short: Yes, you had a good chance to get 1-2 copies of a McGonagal with a trace charm (if you have "Knowledge is Power"), but there is no guarantee you do. Than again, McGonagal is an emergency trace, what else would you use trace charms on anyways....
I sat in a coffeehouse in the historic district of town (read: tons of Inns, Greenhouses, and spawning) for nearly 2 hours, then a pub for lunch a couple blocks over, running TTD, using the trace charms, and dark detectors, and couldn't get McGonagall at all. Walked around town a bit, still no luck. Did several more TTD over the 2 days from home (I think I used 5 or 6), and only managed to get 3 McGonagalls to show up, and one fled after the first attempt. Very frustrating.
I also opened at least 25 family trunks, and only got 1 bonus gift (spell book), even though I've unlocked several bonus training trunks for spell books, trace charms, etc. What's going on that the chances of getting a bonus item from a family trunk is so abysmally low?
I didn’t have any problem at all with McGonagalls. She was everywhere. I only used trace charms on the first couple because I thought she would be hard to find. And yes I did get credit for two of them in the task when I got two fragments from one trace. I placed her three times, and have 3/10 towards placing again. This is from the very start of the event to the end, she was plentiful the whole time.
Alohamora traces were not quite as easy to find at first because I rarely bother much with traces without a beam but once I broke that habit and started checking all of them, beamed or not, I found plenty. Same with CoMC traces. They didn’t seem particularly boosted but I still found more than enough.
I used one TTD at the start but didn’t actually need it as it turns out. I played from both home and moving around the neighborhood a bit. I didn’t realize some areas are still in lockdown. Does that mean you actually get in trouble if you leave the house or is it just a guideline like it was here until recently?
One thing I noticed is that the trace charm charge rewards in the level up trunks seem to be increased. I got 3 from one placement of McGonagall so that’s cool. I got plenty to keep my trace charms filled the whole time.
Overall, I thought the format of the event was pretty clever. I liked the way the tasks were tied to class subjects. It just gave the event a little bit of novelty that made it interesting.
I’m sorry that some people had so much trouble with the event, that’s not fun. But I thought it was important to mention that wasn’t everyone’s experience. So, it does seem that they really are making the effort to create good events. Positive feedback can be helpful, too.
McGonagall was very rare for me and I searched in a both a very large city, and a conglomeration of several cities 100 miles away. I used trace charm, and had to force close my game every time I collected a red beam trace because all the trace charm spawns would dissapear. It took both days and 2 trace charms to finish McGonagall for me, and I only saw one extra later on.
@HALLOMAMI thank you for the detailed info!! I know in the past, foundables generated by trace charms did not count toward fulfilling event tasks, at least during brilliant events. Do you know whether that has changed or whether that is specific to brilliant foundables? Just curious how it may relate to the current brilliant event.
As for the trace charm, I have completed both of the SOS nodes you mentioned and my trace charm normally functions as you described (charmed foundables return 2 fragments each and the original foundables I applied the charm to most often duplicates, though I didn't know the logic before behind when this does or doesn't happen, so thank you for that!). However, very recently it seems to be glitching, as many times it has only returned 1 fragment from charmed foundables. Hope this get fixed soon!
I was unable to complete this event due to the shitty servers. This game is unplayable for me unless I am connected to extremely strong wifi (public wifi does NOT work). So even though there is a greenhouse 1/4 mile from my house, the game would not load when I was in range of it. Reported it to support and they just said too bad for me. How sad and frustrating that they acknowledge the huge issues with this game, and yet refuse to help players. Not to mention, I'm lucky there's one even that close to me. It appeared sometime this year, but I am barely able to use it on a good day.
Please don't spend money on this game until some of these massive issues are resolved.
You know what would have been REALLY fun?! I only thought of this because Order of the Phoenix was on TV, but if some random Weasley fireworks would have gone off during my exams, that would have been awesome.

Sure seems like the TFTD has been fixed. Last time I used it, I received enough to finish the picture and McGonagall tasks.
@RachH25

CTANWRITER is correct, the foundables that are boosted are for Ebulio, I’m getting foundables for that spell 3:1 compared to any other charm
We need a survey for this event plz. It was horrible. @hpwulola @HPWUTeam and @sigyn if she's listening.

@OlgaMalfoy as requested. I was DMed via Discord to check the forum.

Alohomora spells?,! Where are the foundables? I’ve used tonic for trace detection numerous times... and none!
The Tonic problem has been fixed and you should now be getting the usual 30 + SOS increase spawns (up to 12 extra).
