@Kodokmag There's no strategy to this event, as 4 of the tasks rely completely on RNG. Using the Trace Charm may help with getting extra fragments of some traces, but it doesn't help with getting Alohomora traces or CoMC traces and those aren't boosted.
@Drakonite It's definitely linked to the event going live, so I hope it's just a coding error and not permanent! A friend in PST used a tonic at 10:oopm-10:30pm his time and got 42 spawns, and I used a tonic at the same time (6:00am-6:30am my time) and only got 22 spawns.
@LaurieTLC thats what i meant about strategically using charm. find suitable one and cast at it (find alohomora traces and cast trace charm at it) the "clone" function still active isnt it

I'll be able to complete the tasks ok (I'm almost done), because I have good home spawns and live in a good area for POIs and spawns. I'm just annoyed that the spawns from TTDs have been reduced with no notice , and if it is unintentional it's already taking a long time for anyone to acknowledge it (probably because of time zones and the weekend).

May I know what is Niantic's solution to this?
Some of my discord friends are unable to complete the greenhouse task because of this. Given that you will be able to see their location on the map, it would be fairly easy to recognise who genuinely are struggling. Please kindly help these group of players.
@Pierogallo You’re luckier than some of us. I just used my first tonic and got zero McGonagall, zero portraits, zero Alohomora Traces, and ONE CoMC traces !
And 60% of the traces I’ve seen so far (wild traces and tonic traces) required Ebublio.
Niantic said “this event has been adjusted to facilitate playing from wherever you are” but this is definitely not true... Some players can’t leave their home, others can’t go out very far and there aren’t greenhouses “wherever we are”.
I’ve been playing every day since the game came out, and this is probably the first event I won’t be able to finish.
1) Tonic is not working as it should. I popped a tonic yesterday and 2 traces spawned immediately. Today, I popped a tonic, and NOTHING spawned for 2 minutes. I actually restarted my app as I thought it was an error on my end, nope. Also ZERO Mcgonagal spawned for me. It was only a lucky RNG that got me 1, which my trace charmed helped to get 4 fragments. It's now been almost 12 hours, and I've been check the app almost every half an hour. Have not seen a Mcgonagal since.
2) Had to go out to get to a green house. I do not live at one and it's not cool to do such things with an active pandemic on the loose
3) Alohomora casts were totally at the mercy of RNG, it took me about 3 hours to complete this task.
4) CoMC traces were also terrible. It took me hours to get this done and I had to have a one person DD party to get it and alohomora done.
Overall experience, will not be able to complete "event" if you are stuck at home and tonics are as good as useless at this point. whoever can do it, I STRONGLY recommend you go out and get it done. If you are stuck at home due to a lock down, all the best to you and here's to hoping that RNG is kind to you
@WitchHiker same greenhouse is counted. Maybe you just sit down in 15 minute to finish task (you can use celescre to recharge ingerients and energy too.)
@Victriva CoCM is finding in outside field trace but there's lowest chance in TTD.
Event foundables are way to rare, alohomora foundables seem even rarer than normal and I haven't seen a single McGonagall. And nerfing TTD & visiting greenhouses when there's still a pandemic and lockdowns in plenty of countries? It's sad how US centric a supposedly global game is.
I don't get any spawns at my house and am sick so not supposed to leave the house. This is going to be an impossible event. Definitely not covid/quarantine friendly anymore.
The Tonic problem has been fixed and you should now be getting the usual boosted number of spawns. (I did post a screenshot of NianticHelp's tweet but still waiting for it to publish.)
I've had a whopping ONE Alohomora since starting this morning. However, lots of Diffndo (over a third of what I'm getting.) Seems the wrong things are getting boosted.
TTD's are pretty much useless, but did manage to finish all but McGonagall by 3pm. Shortly after, 2 of her showed up but none since, and I forgot to trace charm it. *sigh*
I was just in the dark chamber and got kicked out 4 times, used my potions down to almost nothing and ended up timing out. This is getting soo frustrating!!
I always thought that charged traces didn't count toward event tasks. Has that changed?? I haven't bothered using trace charm on the needed event foundables for that reason. Also, the last several times I've used trace charms (most recently just a few minutes ago), I only got 1 fragment from the foundables I originally charmed and it hasn't duplicated like it normally does. So I guess using it won't really help me in terms of trying to get enough McGonagalls which has been my biggest struggle today.
I walked over 2 miles today, on the game the whole time, and just finished a TTD at home and have not seen a single McGonagall. So things aren't looking great for me in terms of being able to complete this event.

idk if its for the event or perm. but ttd spawns seem to be back to pre-covid quol: from covid 30+12=42 to pre covid: 10+12=22

Agreed, the TTD reduction (back to pre covid?) Should be announced beforehand.
Anyway, as it is a surprised event (not scheduled). The CoMC traces should yield additional reward (maybe +reward a unicorn hair)

Increase event spawn on the map !
During such a short event you need to have at least half of the map with event spawn.
I can verify that event spawns are not boosted.

I am entering 4 TTD and only one alohomora spawn from it. I even went outside to look for it. What do you mean by boosted?

To add to the reports of the TTD being useless for this event, it gave me more Peeves than Founders Portraits 🤦🏼♂️
Though I can confirm that if you are lucky to find a McGonagall and trace charm her, you get credit for two foundables when you return her.

aside of increasing in spawns difficulties, i just make use of the 2 days +25% extimulo brewing time. 😅

Major bug in O.W.L.S event.
12 hours in and only ONE McGonagall has appeared and I’ve used 6 (SIX) TTD potions
and 5 Trace Charms.
