Agree with this thread. I can only get a Great on this, even trying the "square root" method. There are so few flipendo cast opportunities available and of course, the ones I am finding are returned with good or great in one attempt. This will be the first event I cannot finish. This stinks Niantic!
This task is purely to make us waste resources, every trick, check mark, potent exstimulo, shortcut, are all useless. Level 45 and not getting anything, but yet the foundable gets caught no matter how bad the cast so you get one shot on one that barely appears. I call ****.
Why is this thread not being responded to by Niantic? There is another thread on this topic which indicated that anyone who responded to the thread would have the task marked completed.
Like the commenters above, I’ve been playing for nearly 2 years, and have never managed a masterful flipendo cast. I’m a level 57 player, and this will be the first challenge I have not completed. I’ve tried everything suggested in other threads and can still only get a medium great cast. For future challenges, please reconsider this task or put it in the bonus tasks. Very disappointed.
I am housebound right now due to injury and this will be the first event I will be unable to complete solely due to the need to cast the masterful flipendo spell. Very disappointed.
Guys I’m with you here. After hours of trying, giving the square root method a go, cursing Niantic, and almost throwing my phone at the wall... I DID IT! ...just the once so far (and I think my first time ever)...my secret...I used a strong extimulo potion but it worked first time. Now just got to do it a second time...
PS I tried the normal extimulo loads of times but no luck.
Logging in here for the first time ever despite playing the game since June 2019 to also say that this task is unreasonable. It's a perfect storm of ****: A rare spell (I have about a minute and a half left in a potion and only got about 4 flipendo spawns in the whole time) plus an awkward trace (I have no mobility disorders and can't imagine how ridiculous this is for people who do) plus effectively penalizing players who filled out the calamity essentials training (since I generally only get one attempt on a flipendo when one actually does spawn before I catch it since I've boosted all the "increase your likelihood of returning foundables" stats. )
Is it possible that flipendo is bugged? I finally got my two masterfuls once I stopped actually following the lines of the spell. I was just as fast with my prior attempts that didn't get masterful, and those stayed in the lines.
Looking at Drakonite's last image, the touchpoints aren't where one would expect them to be at all in the end of the spellcast.
Agreed! I've been playing since day one and I really don't think I've EVER cast a Masterful Flipendo, not even once. I can cast Great Flipendo all day, but not Masterful.
This task is very frustrating, and I think, ill-advised, given how many experienced players are having this same discouraging result of potentially not being able to complete the event despite all attempts.
Couldn’t agree more about ditching the masterful flipendo task. I mean, seriously?!? I hate having glaring white holes in my registry, so I may just need to delete the game after this.
I am also throwing in a complaint. I have played since day 1 and I have missed the masterful casts on this event, part 1 and now probably part 2, it is very discouraging 😞.
I love a challenge, but I get excited to get a rare great flipendo. I’m very disappointed that this spell needs to be a masterful. I’m still trying but I’m afraid I won’t finish this set of tasks. It would be nice if something this challenging would be put in the bonus tasks. Then people could at least finish the event and fill the foundables page. Please consider moving it to the bonus tasks or making it easier to get a masterful.

If you go to this link, and respond that you are not able to complete the task, Lola will mark the task completed, but ,you won't get the Spell Book (poor form, in my opinion). Then, you'll be able to finish the event, and go on to the Bonus.
I am in the same boat, level 60 never cast a masterful flipendo, (rarely am able to cast a great flipendo) using a tonic every chance I get and this will be the first event I don’t complete including the one where I was in labor for 36 hours of the event. This will only be the second event ever where I don’t finish the bonus, the first being, you guessed it, the event where I was in labor and gave birth to my 2 month old daughter during the event.
both my husband & I are level 60 and we both put money into the event - even making money towards WU birthday/Christmas presents for each other since it came out. I am frustrated enough that trend might end this year....

I just completed 2 masterful flipendos for the first time EVER!!! I seriously thought I would not be able to complete this task. I followed the screenshots from Drakonite (thank you!). Both times I had also just come out of a chamber, where I had a Wit Sharpening potion active, which I am not sure if that made a difference or not, but it is worth a shot.

I have been playing since June 21, 2019. I didn't play it much the first few months, and partially played the first couple Brilliant events (due to a career change). I haven't missed out on any such event since then and have finished all. It is so hard seeing this task unfinished and possibly the rest of the event.
My background, level 53, age 59, still active physically, but not as fast. I can get some masterfuls, but never on the flip. Frustrated. Not going to quit. But definitely won't be supporting with purchases the way things are going. Please help Niantic, help!

@hpwulola I’ve also been playing this game since the beginning and have spent multiple days trying to get a masterful Felipendo. This will be the first event that I am unable to finish. I think Niantic should consider marking this task done for every HPWU player.

This truly, truly, truly sucks.
I’ve tried the suggested tricks. Nope. I’ve shown the tricks to my roommate who’s better at casting than I am. Nope.
I don’t even know if I’ll try working on the next Brilliant event. I shudder to think what the next totally impossible task will be.

Rework this task, this is unreasonably difficult.

I've used at least six tonics for trace detection and cast flipendo dozens of times over the last two days and I've made only a few great traces.
Of all the traces, flipendo has the most arbitrary requirements for the quality of the cast.
This requirement is ridiculously out of scale with the rest of the event.

I've considered deleting the game. I can do very well without the frustrations. This was supposed to be a game of relaxation and walks.
I think in return the game have given me OCD. I am furious by the thought that I may have an unfinished frame because of that flipendo spell.
At least they could make sure there was more spawnings, even though I doubt it would help.
I even tried making a cutout in cardboard, but that only got worse results. Seeing those pictures I understand why...

I am not sure if there is a secret to complete this tasks, I can barely complete a great with this spell, and I am level 50.
