How I post photos in these forums (by request)

I currently use Google photos to host my images. This allows me to upload pictures from my computer or edit screenshots on my phone and then share them.

The problem with Google Photos is that there is no easy way to get the URL of the image for passing on the forum. While it's possible to do this manually, I found a tool that does it for me.

This is the memorable short link j.mp/embedgooglephotos

http://j.mp/embedgooglephotos There was an error displaying this embed.

I am using Google Drive (for now) to store my photos and linking from there though the embed button below doesn't present the image the way I would like, hence the linking. I'm surprised google photos isn't using a secure link (httpS://) for your images as shown above. Either way, you gave me something to look into. Merci!

Well, that looks a lot cleaner. I think I'll stick with that method from now on.

I need to look into these things... I’m so not techy anymore. Technology passed me by about 10 years ago. Lol

Thanks again for the ideas @Osprey1

I need to change the pumpkin juice bottle now that, since the last big update, it no longer looks like a bottle of kikkoman soy sauce.

I think I'll just have to continue using imgur. Google photos sounds like more hassle than it's worth. I wish it allowed the image be shown from a Drive stored image. Ah well.

My preference would be the ability to simply "Paste" an image into the forums but I think that requires server space because it technically would need to save the image on the forum's servers.

Anyone can write a full guide how to upload picture here, please?

@M79 You just have to upload your photo to a cloud drive, image repository, or FTP server of some sort. Copy and paste a link to the image in your post, and it should embed automagically. Imgur.com is a popular image sharing platform.

@WerewolfChaser that’s a fantastic visual 😅 Curious how this works too though. Not loving the idea of having to go through imgur and clearly they’re having some issues of their own lol

@WerewolfChaser, I believe some of the services out there like Google Drive/Photos and OneDrive are somewhat hit or miss when it comes to embedding your images in a post or comment. I originally tried linking to images from OneDrive, but the way it shows up is more like I've linked to the page the image can be found on. Instead, I just upload images I want to share to my FTP server, so I can link directly to the image file itself, like so...

Erkle-ing. My son came up with that idea. Still makes me chuckle. I've never used Imgur, but I hear it works great for image sharing, as it should considering that's their whole schtick. If they're down at the moment though, I suppose that leaves you sort of stuck. I know other people have had good luck using Google Photos. It seems to work well for @Osprey1.

It would be cool if the forum administrators would install a plugin for a rich-text editor, which included the ability to upload photos. I understand that would result in increased storage demands, but it doesn't seem unreasonable to expect this forum to work like pretty much any other out there. I'm sure they can afford a few extra terabytes of drive space to host images locally.

I’ve posted two images recently using imgur, no issues that I can tell. Just an fyi in case someone wants to try it.
