Took nearly a day to find my first. 3 strikes into the first guard the screen goes blank for a second and I am back in the world. Sucks to look forward to something, having to wait while others have encounters, then when you finally get to try it glitches and you get nothing, not even the experience
i saw dark mark once too, to day. just really hope that this dark mark appearance is not a trial spawn, that we have to buy edm outside of an event (adversary event really spawns lots of them right?)

My least favorite Brilliant Event was Darkness Rising, that is where there was a lot of fighting high health opponents like Snatchers and Poachers. The reason is because the combat was repetitive to the point of exhaustion. It was laborious.
Adversaries is like that except with even higher health Elite-level opponents, boring combat where each side take turns, there are few options to mix it up. The only somewhat interesting aspect is that the opponents chain their attacks more than the usual (being nervous at some points rather than bored is kind of neat). But in general, it really feels like an excuse to burn through potions and spell energy. To be honest, more than one per day would feel more like a chore than a treat.
Yes, Wizarding Challenges is somewhat like that too. But those are more fun given how the team uses Focus to do other things than just fight really long battles. In Wizarding Challenges it is almost euphoric when a strong team builds up Hexes and Buffs to make everyone rise to the challenge.

@Xenomer I take issue with your comments - I was out walking when I encountered my first adversary battle and was able to walk while defeating it just fine, though did stop on occasion. Not sure there's any issue there. Also, I've been getting a ton of unicorn hairs from portkeys lately so you must just have rotten luck.
So far I've had 5 in-map spawns today (1 house, 3 park, 1 post office), without using the 2 EDM's that I got as rewards for completing (I've done 8 chains so far.
Yesterday, I used a dark mark edible (1 of the 5 I purchased) and didn't get but 1 spawn in 30 minutes. Other people report they got 3 spawns. That 1 spawn didn't show up for me until more than 15 minutes after activating the edible and not until I restarted the game. I drove to a hot spot area that has a fortress and an inn. I even placed 3 dark detectors hoping that would help.... nothing. I finally got one to show up after I drove home. I feel like I wasted my money. Doesn't help that the stupid dragon killed me after hitting me three times in a row without giving me the chance to pop a healing potion. I was pissed.
@EPHedwig maybe depends how far you are walking. I tried to do my first battle while on the move and after I defeated the first guard and collected the rewards, I got booted back to the map. It seemed to be because I'd gone too far from the spot, though considering issues others have reported I can't say for sure. But I battled two more Adversaries after that, staying in place for each one, and had no issues.
I saw an Edible Dark Mark this morning and got through to Gilderoy Lockhart. It took some potion stacking (Wit Sharpening potion and Exstimulo Potion) and a good bit of spell energy to defeat (as well as 2 or 3 Healing potions). But I have seen nothing since. I don't have enough gold to buy EDM right now. It does add a different flavor to the game. It would be nice to be able to pump yourself up with some curses or invigorating spells like in Wizarding Challenges. I guess that might happen with the combat training lessons in the skill tree. I checked mine, but I don't have enough books to level up anything immediately. Hope I gain enough in the next few events to gain some new skills.
I saw four in the wild, two when being passenger, one while walking and one I took home.
The first three I fought immediately, while walking or in the car, these went well. (With healing potion because I missed hits because of the walking.)
During the last one I was a block away from home, so I took it home after playing the first guard. I kept my phone (fairphone 3) on and waited for two or three minutes before defeating the second one. By the third adversary I was sent to map in the second hit.
So maybe it's time bound. Because all four encounters I was moving at least a block.

I decided to just drive around in an area with a park and a bunch of offices with lots of parking so I could drive slowly and easily pull into a space to do battle. The adversary traces are few access far between so I think that's really the best way to find them without buying an EDM. something I've noticed both yesterday and today is that most of the ones I've found have been in the vicinity of multiple inns, greenhouses and/or fortresses but not actually in range of these structures. Here are a few examples of places I found them (a couple of times I didn't think to take a screenshot before starting the battle but screenshotted after so you can tell the general location by where my avatar is. Hope this helps for those who are having trouble finding them on the map.
I also received a DADA book with at least one guard I fought (in addition to getting 1 per completed adversary chain) so that's nice to know that that's another opportunity to get more books. From what I can tell, that's just a random drop.
For some reason the foes I fought today were all easier than the couple I fought yesterday. It would be nice if we could see the levels of all the foes before deciding to enter a battle so we can be sure we're all enough equipped to finish it - there seems to be a pretty wide range within the "feared" level Adversaries.
Yesterday, while staying at home (close to an inn), we encountered 4 adversaries.
This was a nice occasion to compare the performances of a maxed professor (me) and a maxed auror (my wife)... (We are not really maxed anymore, but we both bought the 8 'cheap' skills in rank 2)
It took me more than twice her time and energy to beat each of those opponents... And I had to use potions while she didn't...
For a long time, I considered our weakness against oddities as secondary (but painful during dragon events or dark forces events), while we were useful in fortresses.
But it is becoming a central aspect of the game and the professions are not balanced at all against oddities and now adversaries...
Yay!!! I finally got 2 Dark Marks, one after the other. It is so cool since the area that I am in does not have much of anything on the map. I found that I don't need to have the bravery charm (like in fortress challenges), and the Wit-sharpening potions worked really well with the Exstimulo Potions. I fought the battles in one spot and defeated both of them. I got a couple of DADA books as the rewards but no Edible Dark Mark.
I used more than 10 potions so I decided to wait for the event on Friday instead of looking for more Dark Mark Traces. This place is very miserly on ingredients on the map and no greenhouse close enough for me to walk to.

Still nothing for me, I even spent a couple of hours in a large shopping center yesterday. Numerous inns/greenhouses and a screen full of foundables throughout but no dark marks. I hope that the event makes them appear for everyone.
Encountered my first wild adversary. Going to need a lot of healing potion. Surprised I didn't get more Critical Cast as a complete level I Auror , but don't have enough RSB to even complete the a single lesson on the new lesson plan.
Not sure the Wit helped much, but even the boosted Strong Ex didn't do a lot. Needed a Potent for the final adversary (ridgeback) and man was that elusive. Had to really work to complete the target to cast the spell. Much more difficult than any previous foe. That's what caused me to need several healing potion.
Also, when returning from potion screen the time remaining to complete the target before casting a spell was really short. Have to be quick about it or get hit without doing a spell cast.
Finally got one, supposedly Aragog but it kicked me out after the first fight. Mark then disappeared from the map, hope these issues people are having are resolved for the event.

@Not4u13 I had the same experience with the first few I did (I actually didn't get to finish one of them because I was knocked out during a triple strike when I had no opportunity to use a healing potion) but the next day I played more and they were all easier. I think I maybe used 1 healing potion over 5 Adversaries. I got Malfoy and Fenrir Greyback each a couple times and they are significantly easier - they're not dodgy and I feel like they dealt less damage with each strike anyway. The guards were also easier leading up to those fights than some of the others I've done. I wish they would give us a better indicator of the level of the final battle before we start a chain because there seems to be quite a big range within the "feared" Adversaries. I guess the best we can do for now is just make mental notes (or take actual notes if your memory is as terrible as mine) of how difficult each of the final Adversaries is because I think that is set.
Also it's snowing where I am now and supposed to continue over the weekend so I'm glad I got out and was able to try out the new feature the last couple days... And I REALLY hope they're going to give us some free EDMs for the event - and fix them to spawn more than 3 as most people have been reporting - so that I can actually participate because I definitely won't be wandering around in the snow. Considering a lot of us, I'm sure, are experiencing bad weather in addition to the pandemic, I really hope this event will be REALISTICALLY playable from home (without spending a bunch of money)
I have seen about 7 in the past 2 days, just walking around the park. I am a maxed aurer and maxed magizooligist, but fighting these was kind of hard and took lots of potions and spell energy. One of the encounters gave me a edm as a reward. Saving that one for an event when I need it and can’t go out of the house. Sure am not going to pay for them!
I'm seconding the bug that kicks you out of dark mark encounters. For me it was during the second battle, with a Sphinx.
At first I thought I must have died but I got the same series the next day and realized that it isn't powerful so I was experiencing what others have reported.

I spotted a free spawn today, but only one
while fighting advasiers on my home network I have had 2 connections lost while battle and lost the chance foe rewards
Extra2! I found advesires when i exploration (you can find empty spot this one).
Luckily i got basilisk rare one because this is hard too.
