These challenges are getting ridiculous. I assumed the bonus wouldn't have placing images in the registry due the difficulty of gaining event specific xp in the previous task. Not to mention completing my highest chamber is close to impossible even with a maxxed professor and all the potions. I feel like it's realistic to expect to play 1-1.5 hours a day to complete all tasks but lately that is not the case. I enjoy the game but have no desire to plan my life around it.
@CeruleanGirl I could be misunderstanding, but the way I read this, we are to open as many portemanteaux as necessary to obtain 5 portkeys. I don’t think every portemanteau opened awards a portkey, does it? If this is correct, is there any statistical difference in finding a portkey inside a BE portemanteau than any of the other ones?
@Specialivy all portemanteau give a port key when you walk enough distance. You then use the portkeys to transport yourself and get whatever items you click on.
For this, you would try to open 5 1.5 km portemanteau or lower. Using silver keys you could unlock all 5 at once.
@Specialivy Yes. @Navik is correct. Every Portmanteau contains a Portkey. They worded it like this to make it clear that you have to actually unlock them to achieve the task. There have been tasks in previous events that required you to open them, which meant that you could unlock them ahead of time and wait until you reached the task to actually open them.
@hpwulola Congratulations on making another event that is impossible to complete even for experienced players. And don't get me started on the whole "play from home" lie. I'm almost entirely homebound. I get to leave the house maybe one or twice a week. TTDs do not EVER spawn ingredients or SE so after a short while they become useless as there's no way to replenish SE or potions. There's also no way to open portmanteaus. Combine that with all the bugs and it's just one big disappointment. I've used 6 runestones for the current BE and have received 0 fxp or candle fragments. Been working on 2/4 the past 2 days and still only have 112 of the 350 fxp required. Just for reference I'm a level 47 prof with 200 SE capacity. This is absolutely ridiculous.
This game used to be fun, especially after last summer's welcome re-balancing. Now, unfortunately, it's just work. Most of the tasks are too demanding, unless you are free to spend several hours a day at them, which few of us are.
The most unreasonable part is the "family XP," since these tasks can be almost impossible to complete in the allotted time (again, unless you can spend hours every day, and even then, it's tough). An ordinary catch yields about 3 family XP -- yet the requirements are in the hundreds, even thousands. We used to be able to count on 10 XP from fortress battles using runestones, but now only about one in three battles (on average) yields any runestone-specific XP at all.
And the rewards for all this work are just pitiful.
I'm sorry that a once-fun game has become such a frustrating slog. Is there any way that you could create two tiers of tasks, one for the new or ordinary players and one for the die-hard, apparently unemployed fans who can afford to spend whole days at play?
No more response, nothing about fixing this extreme unbalance... Players frustrated. Not even a poor excuse of a "sorry" gift. The devs don't care about the player base at all.
You all have a community here who really really want to love this game. They want to help you guys avoid these pitfalls. But you refuse to listen. You're going to **** this game.
Yesterday i finally finished the last page and is now on bonus page. It usually take me about 2-3 days to finish a BE (or a week if I struggle with finding playtime). I didn't think I would pass page 2/4 - ever!
Not replacing foundables and walking portkeys was what helped me - but if I've been a "stay-at-home" it would have been impossible!
Brilliant spawns and spell energy on map were nowhere to find, or rare. I had to drive to find more, due to syncing portal problem we lack Inns where I live (Ingress and PoGo ok).
Pouchers and snatchers where hard to defeat due to lack of spawns and energy.
This and more is reported by so many of us players. I'm sad that there is so little, or no, response from the @HPWUTeam explaining why this BE is so difficult, or to help making ways to pass the 350 fxp when you read about the struggle (and WW last weekend). To read that players are quitting due to this is also so sad, new players seem to have no chance of completing the event either.
I love the game, been playing since the start, and Knight Bus was what got me really hooked, with no fortress nearby it wasn't fun playing before. I liked all different events too. The covid-solutions were brilliant and made it possible to play during stay-at-home restrictions. Then the problems started .... and these last two events have been a struggle.
I will continue playing, but I really hope that you focus on correcting the bugs before implementing new features into the games. Please, raise the quality of testing before release, and verify correction of old bugs!! (There are plenty of players here who surely would like to betatest the game for you FREE!!)
And start communicating with us again. The lack of communication from you is very frustrating, we get the feel that you don't care - but I hope you do!
THANK YOU for the game that we love! Let us continue to love it!
I came here to say that for the first time, I'm tempted to just give up on this game. I started playing the day it was released. I anticipated it for ages and was so excited. I played with my daughter as a fun 'bonding' time. But I have to say, it's no longer fun to sit in my car at the park (covid) and churn out 3xp at a time to get hundreds of family xp. (Or a whopping 10 at a challenge...... IF you're lucky. [Do you guys understand that 35 challenges would be required IF each challenge gave family xp??!?] And challenges take energy, which means I can't play for long from home.) It's just. not. fun. Why keep playing? Please stop with the family xp thing!! I slogged away at an event every day any time I could, and still did not complete it. That time, I didn't have a free afternoon to go sit in the park. Once again the stupid 'family xp' bit me. Now I have a glaring 'hole' in my registry. Events should be fun. The game should be fun. My family is asking me why I still play if I'm just complaining about it. Good question.
I am on the bonus round. I have opened (unlocked) 4 portmanteau and nothing! I just inserted another key. And still nothing. How is this supposed to work?
Really struggling to even complete the 2nd part. 350 family xp when I'm rarely seeing brilliant traces and only have gotten 11 runestones so far. Portkeys seem the best way to get the xp, but I can't walk all over the place. Very frustrating. I feel the events are designed to have you playing hours on end to finish them.
After the complete bumble of the wizarding weekend event in which it became impossible to prestige the Fallen Ministry Atrium page b/c the "Might is Magic" and "Tom Riddle Sr's Gravestone" wizarding challenge only fragments were deactivated. At the beginning, based on information that had been released, I was excited for the event and had plotted out a way for my group to respect physical distancing but still travel together to enjoy it. Then the live event revealed only Knockturn Alley fragments would be guaranteed, which is on a completely different registry page, thus making it impossible to prestige "Fallen Minsitry Atrium." This was further compounded by the 2000 family xp which could have been possible had we been able to prestige the page so we could get increasing levels of rewards. My group planned to meet at our starting location 1 hour after the event went live. All 12 of us cancelled and abandoned the event once we realized what a un joyful time sink it would be.
And before many of you make the argument that there's an entire weekend to do the event. I have 2 young kids and we go on a walk. We went on 3 walks over the weekend as long as they could tolerate and I still was unable to complete the event. Compounded with the reality that is 2020, and if this event was "designed to enable people to play at home as much as possible," both you and the developers are deceiving yourselves.
I remained hopeful for the brilliant event. Way to step on the jugular of that hope. Not only are the different tasks not congruent within each other. I just spent 5 days of the event to get the 350 family XP without placing any images to increase the amount of family xp per catch. This was after having to catch 10 poachers and for the 3rd event I have to catch 15 snatchers. Why were the catching of poachers, snatchers and family xp not contained within a single assignment? And furthermore, it should be the last assignment. My HPWU group is frustrated and more than half, including myself, are seeking other games b/c HPWU is no longer fun. We have families and enjoyed the dual purpose of having a community-oriented game which provided a means to go out and enjoy a game as a group that even the young kids could be a part of since they are familiar with the Harry Potter bookes. Yet, based on the last 2 events and the forecasted ones, this is no longer the game we have enjoyed for the past year. Very disheartening since this is a game that we have invested time and money into, yet the latest actions have shown if you are not ready to invest significant time into an event which may still not be attainable, then you will be unable to enjoy watching the story line unfold.
Don't forget the target demographic is the same as the years Harry Potter and company were in school, with an extension to those who grew up with the books. Yet the design of the events is too arduous for any but those who desire to be "hardcore."
Perhaps someone of influence will read this. Hopefully it at least gives pause to those designing future events to remember who is playing this game.
I am stuck on page 2. Since Wednesday!! There is no possible way to accumulate the 350 points of brilliant xp in a reasonable time. I did the math. You need to collect 117 brilliant foundables to get the points, at an average of needing 5 energy (it took me between 3 and 7 depending on the foundable so I used an aggregate) that is nearly 600 energy points. I used a tonic for trace detection which produced exactly 5 foundables for a grand total of 15 points in 30 minutes. I would need over 40 tonics to get the points and over 20 hours of solid play. I am playing from home. I live in the city with the biggest current Covid spike in my state, I am not going anywhere and ingredients and energy are not materializing fast enough for me to get even a little close. Yeah, you're making part two easier but that doesn't help me. I rarely fail to complete a weeklong quest. I can't get past page 2 and I'm not the only one. This is bull!! Fix it, give us the quest items, or the materials to complete it in a timely manner or many of us will stop playing.
The level of time and/or resources needed to complete events has gotten ridiculous. It is so tedious to hit a brilliant poacher or snatcher or poacher 6 or 8 times just to get 3 of my required 350 family XP for a single event task. I liked the game enough to get to level 51 but will likely bail if this continues. I just am not willing to spend the level of cash or time it takes to complete events.
I think I’m done. I still need 120 fxp for task 2/4 and I’m getting maybe 1-2 brilliant spawns every couple hours. I can’t go sit and walk around my local park all day to finish this. It’s stupid.
@coyotewoman42 You have to actually unlock the portmanteau. Opening an already unlocked portmanteau doesn’t count and neither does simply putting a key in. It has to unlock when you are on the bonus tasks to count.
I just read Spinduliukas's comments. What a great imagination. I would play any game that wizard writes! Those suggestions would reintroduce the magic of the game. I hope the developers are listening. (I just made a joke.)
This event is impossible to do from home. I've been playing it all week and I only just finished the absolutely ridiculous task of gaining 350 bxp. I am frustrated and discouraged. This is not fun. The brilliant traces are so rare, I have no choice but to use trace detection after trace detection, and even then I'm only getting 4-5 brilliant traces per potion, if that. I don't have enough potion ingredients, I don't have enough spell energy, and there is so little reward for returning each brilliant trace when they each take two or more spell energy to return. I work, so I have a little bit of opportunity to pick up more potion ingredients and spell energy, but if I was at home 100% of the time, there is no way I would be able to complete this. I thought the whole point of the changes was to make things accessible for people who may not get to leave the house at all due to health concerns or quarantine, but if so, they're a massive failure. Spell energy doesn't spawn enough in one location and neither do specific potion ingredients. I've been playing since the beginning and this is the first event that I've really been in danger of not completing. I am seriously considering leaving the game entirely if something doesn't change.
I am so frustrated. I can actually get out and walk in my neighbourhood but I have now used three TDD and I cannot get enough Snatchers to complete the third task! I've been stuck on it since Saturday and when I'm lucky enough to get a Brilliant Trace, I've had four poachers for every 1 snatcher. This is infuriating. It took me long enough to get the Family XP in task two and I figured I'd at least complete the main tasks, even though I know I won't get time to do the bonus assignment but now, I'm going to be lucky to actually pass this task. This event was supposed to finally let me max out as a professor but I can't get enough green books now....grr. Not only is it boring and tedious to defeat the snatchers and poachers this time around, i can't even get them to show up. It is ridiculous. I've got one TDD left and I refuse to buy the ingredients to make more since they're not showing up on the map either.
The brilliant events have become tedious. Not difficult or challenging, just tedious and boring. **** out endless family XP and fortress challenges is mind numbing, not interesting or entertaining. And the events take far too long to complete. The first events could be completed in 0ne or two days, the most recent events can take most of the week.
Congratulations! You actually managed to make me hate this event. This aught to be a fun game but now its just... tedious and frustrating. I decided to boycott your brilliant event this time because I already have a full time job... Stop destroying the game please...
I normally don't have a problem getting through these but there were some few foundables, even in areas that usually have a lot. I didn't make it past task 2/4 this time because it is so darn impossible to get the XP needed. It's also frustrating that Baruffio's hardly helps in getting the XP that's event specific. Getting only 3-4 points at a time makes getting to 350 extremely difficult, even with Chambers because that's no point guarantee either and you just waste ruinstones.
Honestly, really disappointed right now. I’ve been playing this game from the day it came out so I’ve witnessed a lot. All the events and bonus assignments, as well as the bugs and other things. However, as much as I love playing this game it is getting harder to complete the Brilliant events or the Community Day events. I would usually complete the Brilliant Event and the Bonus event in 5-6 days and now I can’t even get past 2/4 task because Brilliant Even only awards +3 when you defeat a Confoundable. There are 5 hours left to finish this event and I know I won’t be able to. My first Brilliant Event that I couldn’t complete since I started playing. I’m really disappointed. Also, when we use the Brilliant event runestones we are not guaranteed to get anything after the battle, which is frustrating because now it’s 2x as hard to level up on the page to get another runestone.
Another thing I noticed, when you take the Tonic for Trace Detection, it only gives you 3 Brilliant Event confoundable and the rest are normal confoundable. Usually during the Brilliant Event Week the Tonic would mostly bring you the Brilliant confoundables. I think I used 7 potions this week and I’m still stuck on 2/4 tasks. There must be either a lot of glitches and other bugs... or they did it on purpose. I don’t have 8+ hours to play this game each day, I have school and work, and I think at least 50% of player can say the same. @hpwulola please step it up and fix these bugs, or just go back to the old update.
I will try to highlight my observations from last Brilliant Event:
remove ingredients from tasks ( if Event should be home firendly ) or create another way to obtain it for task. There are many people, who can't obtain this 1 task from home. We need potion with ingredients, or something like that.
more challanging Brilliant foundables are ok, especially since they are not copy-paste from existing foundables, but it should give us better rewards - WXP and FXP
Rewards from family chests are definitely weak and they don't motivate players to return more Brilliant foundables. Many players do it only for tasks. I don't use TTD anymore if I finish Event and i can meet Brilliant encounter from it. 50 EXP ? It's waste of Energy and Time.
Players need more Energy playing from Home, not only from Inns or map, not everywhere are spawns.
Story is much better than earlier, it is step in right direction.
Last questions are.
When you fix bug with wrong flares? It looks like a deliberate decision so players spend more Energy and buy potions.
When you fix bug with black screen? Do you see that you will discourage new players?
I have a lot of fun playing the game. Not a huge gamer but enjoy Wizards Unite.
My thoughts on the event:
I enjoyed the oddities style instead of traces to mix it up.
I actually spent more time on this event then usual. I'm usually done in 3 days but this took me 5 which was nice. Getting family xp is challenging but it's totally doable.
I like the mix of traces and wizarding challenges. It's the only time people will do the highest dark chamber so I look forward to it 2x a month.
I am not a fan of getting the event xp or other event related items as rewards for completing bonus because it doesn't really do anything for you if you have a gazillion scrolls. I understand the portkey rewards for people who can't walk but if you have to open portkeys it doesn't really make sense.
I am disappointed and frustrated with the latest Brilliant Event (Darkness Rising, Pt 1). I have played Wizards Unite from Day 1 & have loved the game. I love the challenge & the variety. My frustration & disappointment with this latest event comes from the fact that, even though I walked, drove, used multipliers & Tonics for Trace, I still couldn’t see enough brilliant traces to complete the main event in time to be able to have enough time to finish the Bonus Assignments, ESPECIALLY walking to unlock 5 portmanteaus. When players use all the prescribed/required tools during an event, the game should reward those players with the expected/required means to complete the event (& the Bonus). I would like for Niantic to give a blanket “free” gift of the items that the Bonus would have provided.
First time I have not completed the event when I had time to participate. The last two were to time and resource extensive to make it worth my attention. And if you are going to ask to capture 70 of anything they should be easy to find and gather and not mixed in with a bunch of others. These last two events really discouraged my game play. as others have mentioned. Need a slightly better balance of challenge versus reward. Discouraged PilgrimDale and Piperowl

Looking forward to part 2.
