I honestly liked this event just because it was rather grindy. Grindy makes the event good ror me personally.
But then, some people obviously feel bad about this. You definetely should have some option to choose easy vs hard version of the event. There’s not just one-size-for-all solution.
When are we supposed to see this update? Is it already out? I haven’t seen anything yet, so I’m just curious about the timeframe. I understand that programming takes some time (usually?).
Guys, they said part 2. We're on part 1 and part 2 of the brilliant event comes out in like two weeks. Someone made a comment about people having already completed part 2 surely don't have an issue. No one has completed part 2 unless they're a time traveler. In which case, please let us know how Niantic corrected this. Are poachers and snatchers no longer as ridiculously hard?
I've commented as such in other threads, but adding voice here - BEs have progressively gotten less interesting and this one is approaching a "last straw" state. I've been at it since launch (joined forum later) but seriously considering taking a break from the game given the current direction of changes (grindy timesinks and surprised by odd changes to threat)
We've heard your feedback about part 1, so we went ahead and adjusted part 2. We cool?
Why not address part 1? Or the ridiculous WW event? Or any of the other issues people have been having?
I feel like I'm just complaining more and more, which sucks because I really liked this game and got excited about a lot of the new changes and features... But now everything gets walked back. It's not fun anymore, and it something doesn't change, this is going to go into the 'only log in every day for daily awards' group, until it goes into the 'need to get around to deleting' group.
Spell Energy spawns have been seriously nerfed. I used to often pick up 3 from home. Now it's sit and wait to see if anything appears.
The amount of SE for returns is way too high for the XP and FXP.
A lot of us are still facing restrictions. E.g. 1 person per house for grocery shopping per day. We have just doubled our exercise outdoor time. We are restricted to 2 hours per day and are only allowed to travel 5km from our homes.
Those ports are looking like an impossibility ATM.
Please do not advertise an event as at home when we must go out to complete it.
Please make the tasks as rolling tasks instead of in chunks of parts. So once a task has done, it will pop up the next one without having to block progress, so the annoying brilliant XP task which takes ages this time can still be there and we can still carry on with other tasks. The rewards will then needs to be adjusted per task (including the rewards after part 1-4 tasks are completed, including bonus)
I'm not sure about everyone but the track distance while app not active is not running for me. At least it's not as accurate as PoGo's. If this is fixed, combined with portmanteaus for brilliant event where people under restrictions can still go grocery shopping/exercise, this will at least make it easier to achieve.
Dynamically adjust the number of knight buses based on the load/active players, so we can easily hop on a bus where there are a lot of people so we don't have to wait in chamber for a long time waiting for other players. In real-life, I would prefer an empty bus anytime, but not in HPWU :)
Shame and name the players that don't do anything after wizarding challenge completed, at least don't give them any foundables as a reward. I'm sure you can differentiate which player is accidentally disconnected vs the one that is active but choose not to engage.
Spawn rate for foundables related to the event (wizarding weekend/brilliant event/etc) should be drastically higher, especially when tonic for trace detection is used AND dark detector please?
While I appreciate the option to buy potion during wizarding challenge, the design is a bit mischievous. The potion to buy should at least have the coin amount on the top and not on the bottom (I know there is a coin image next to it but in a glance it looks like I always have 25 estimulo potions).
If we need to engage in 'battle' type of foundables instead of spell trace in this event, at least make it easier for us to do double hits and critical hits. At the moment it takes probably 30 seconds per poacher and almost a minute for snatcher if no critical hits involved (I'm level 40+). I imagine players with lower level will inflict smaller damage so it will take them significantly longer?
Can we make the damage inflicted when doing wizarding challenge using range instead of fixed damage amount, so like normal battle RPG. say, based on level we can inflict damage between 50-75 hit points depends on the enemy defence, skill (and whatever else), and the hit points we can inflict increased along with our level. This will at least give variety to wizarding challenge. Also critical hits at the very end when the enemy is just a few hit points left is annoying! (that's just me complaining, nvm the last bit)
My phone is still having the black map issue and have to switch language whenever the app is killed in the background. If that is fixed in the near future, I would be grateful. I can live with switching language for now.
Thanks for the effort HPWU team and I imagine it must be hard trying to make everyone happy or figuring a way to engage more players but I think the first step into the right direction is to hear what the common theme raised in the community.
Best of luck and hope we can get the poachers and snatchers eliminated!
I'm frustrated as everyone else about events and increased difficulty. SOS lesson tree bonus diminished as time goes by. Sometimes it takes 3 spells to win a floberworm. Seriously? I was not able to complete events since early September due to various reasons, but mainly it was consuming too much time, not enough ingredients for potions to boost the traces and power, low spell energy, add hurricanes to equation (I'm medium level player).
Enough complaints about the events. Please make suggestions to WU what would make this game fun. I enjoyed dragon week, womping willows. Combat is fun too for a change. Lets make it more rewarding. Why Snatcher does not grant DADA books if it takes so much energy to defeat it? How about new page each day on WW to capture 3 - 5 items from Hogwards with max 10 traces to place. How about hunting for stuff in Filch's office, with opening drawers, doors or cabinets to find keys, brooms, ingredients, confiscated items for future use in tasks? How about getting a pet (owl, cat, dragon,niffler...) that would accompany on tasks and have special qualities like helping to retrieve some ingredients on maps more often, or allow to reach Inns. How about aquiring special broom or boots that would allow to double miles walked or expedite portkeys, or increase the distance that green houses or inns could be reached. How about secret passages in fortreses, invisibility cloak, time turner to help make up missed assignments. Regarding themes of BEs and WW, it is either returning endless traces or sitting in fortresses waiting for people to join in the highest chamber. Request for more "challenging game" does not always mean more traces or harder to accomplish tasks. How about "challenging" by means of more interesting game and plot. Yes, we have lesson tree, SOS tree, but how about BE that is a professor Sprout lesson, and for a reward would grant one additional ingredient capacity each day upon event completion for 3 months. BE could be repeated for new players to catch up every 6 months or so... how about BE that teaches healing charm proficiancy to be used in fortreses beyond what lesson tree offers. What about Slughorn lessons and felix felicis potion recipe as a reward and 6 months supply aquired only through BE. This would bring your players back, because it is not a copy/paste BE with diferent title.
How are you supposed to finish an event if the foundables don’t even really show up. 2 days, and only have seen ten of them. Well, that’s probably one of the first challenges, I won’t finish. That’s really annoying and disappointing.
the difficulty of this brilliant traces only promote on one typical profession, player will urge to choose auror as main profession or secondary because how economical (relatively easy) this profession to tackle this type of enemy.
I find it unlikely and irresponsible that Niantic in these times makes an event that is almost impossible to play in quarantain or self-isolation. It encourages people to come out anyway. It pisses me off.
We are now at the sad phase where the business side is demanding that the game wring every last dime of in-app purchasing from the dwindling player base before the game is closed. The player experience is down to just trudging through the grind for pathetically inadequate rewards. I mean, just look at the ridiculous “skill tree”. Do you even want most of that, let alone need it enough to spend hours and hours of your life chasing it?!
Registered on the forum for the first time just to come here and say: Please, devs fix this event! I really enjoy this game but the grind of collecting 350 BXP at the rates you've set has made this event a drudgery and I'm giving up on it. And it sounds like I'm not the only one who is considering quitting the game over poor mechanics like this.

12 port-keys opened - a TOTAL of 35 BXP received. How are people gaining so much more... It cannot be that random - am I misisng something? Still stuck on task2 with a little over 200 BXP collected. No way this can be completed before the end and I have never failed to complete with BONUS?!
Is there a special SOS node that I need selected - if so which one?!
Used at least half a dozen tonics last night, and barely ended up with a dozen BE spawns. Took 4-5 hours in place at home to even make a small dent in the 350 BEXP. Playing this at home during this event has been a lot more difficult than it should be. Please, nerf this task down some, or raise the spawn rate for people who cannot travel around regularly due to COVID-19.
@CeruleanGirl The game definitely tracks play. Often I find that when I am one fragment away from completing an image, a foundable I would normally return with 2-3 casts is suddenly unobtainable, UNLESS I care to buy a potion 😉 The last event was doable IF you buy a bunch of keys. They got me - I got frustrated and bought keys. I totally agree with the others who see the hand of monetization at work here. Maybe WB told the developers that they would receive bonuses equivalent to a percentage of the money earned through in-app purchases. Perhaps they were told that it had now been a year and if the game didn’t start paying they would be out of a job! Let’s hope that Part 2 is more fun/achievable. @BenTiger is absolutely correct when he says that, “Players that enjoy the game are more likely to make in game purchases and feel pleased with their purchase. Players that feel forced to spend money are less likely to stay and pay more.”
On a practical note (re the bonus round) does anyone know if our chances of getting portkeys are greater from brilliant portmanteaux than regular ones?
I have a daily commute. I might manage to complete Stage 2 of Part 1 of this brilliant event. Anything involving Family XP was getting grindy, but this is ridiculous.
Previously, I was enthusiastic about Wizards Unite. I've been playing since start, and even separated this game in my head from JKR's... poor decisions.
If the family XP mountain were in the bonus tasks, even, that'd be fine. But advancement in the game for new players is dependent on restricted section books, which are only available from Brilliant Events, and if Events keep being like this, I will _actively dissuade_ people from starting to play this game.
Again, there's a lot to love about HP:WU, and I credit the team and developers with those. But this event was insulting and smacks of a cash grab.
@hpwulola thank you for listening, tho frustrating I was able to complete part 2, tho it took me until this afternoon to do. Usually I’m able to walk some event ports to help speed it up, but I think something is wrong with them, it’s not correctly tracking the miles. I’ve tried everything on my end to fix it, but I’ve given up. I’m on the 5 ports for the bonus round, s9 hopefully I can get them to calculate correctly ove4 the weekend.
This event is particularly hard. Im very discouraged everytime I see I have to collect 350Xp I feel like not even trying the foundabels are worth 3xp ridiculous. Also, it requires more and more spell energy for the event foundables so I run out of SE pretty quickly. Sucks that this is no longer fun.
I finally completed task 2 late today! Spent 90 minutes around park with lots of POIs and spawns, used TTD and managed to pick up 7 Snatchers for part 3 and regain most of my spell energy. Also leveled up, thanks to Baruffio. I can't figure out what that was doing in task 2. Did the devs think that helps with FXP? Surely not. This is still the most brutal slog ever for a BE.
I agree wholeheartedly that since BEs are the key to increasing player skills, they should be able to be finished by low level players and more challenging tasks should be reserved for bonus assignments or other events.
Personally I'm finding it harder to care about the rewards. I'm only level 42, SOS 5800, but I'm sitting on over 6,000 field manuals, 1,000 ministry manuals, and 40 DADA books because I just don't care about the **** I see in the SOS skill tree since trace charm nerf. It's a train wreck of unrelated skills randomly thrown about. The only seeming consistency is that better stuff is often firewalled behind useless skills and outrageous costs that will take years to earn. I periodically look at the SOS skills and pick out some new small thing to add but it doesn't seem to add to my game experience much. Oh yeah, after that I have to switch professions, then switch back again, or everyone will be afraid of having me on their team in the higher fortress levels, because of the score bug. Just another reason I tend to avoid the SOS tree.
I appreciate the hard work in developing this game.
I know it can be challenging and it’s virtually impossible to satisfy everyone. With that being said, I’ve played this game from
Day 1. I love it tbh. I’m a huge HP fan and this was really an extension of it for me.
However, I do recognize it must take a lot of time to balance the enjoyment factor and making the game progress further in development. But this BE was too time consuming and resource (spell energy and potions) draining. It took me about two days to complete task #2. It stopped becoming enjoyable around 150 FXP. Particularly, being a Lvl 15 Auror, these Brilliant foundables consumed too much energy for just 3/4 Brilliant XP.
I know it takes a lot to develop the game so I won’t be too critical, but offer more encouraging words. Perhaps, the developers can make the tasks very much related to using more KB challenges or brilliant XP tasks around 150-200. In my opinion, that number is attainable and you don’t feel exhausted (and mentally drained ) trying to reach to 350.
I don’t agree to make the foundable easier. I quite liked the tough nature of the poachers and snatchers but the rewards were just too small.
continue the good work and I’m hoping for the best.

Hopefully this means that in Part 2 there will be more traces to be found for people playing at home and when using a TTD.
Kind of frustrating. Since it is task number 1, there is no explanation for this behavior.... obvi returned after task started *shrug*
I find it unlikely and irresponsible that Niantic in these times makes an event that is almost impossible to play in quarantain or self-isolation. It encourages people to come out anyway. It pisses me off.
I'm in the same boat with others.
Today is the third day and I'm still stuck at task 2.
I've already opened 6 portmanteau and it only gave me 10 additional BXP.
The amount of energy required is ridiculously high.
Looking at this rate, I think this will be the first event that I can't finish.
We are now at the sad phase where the business side is demanding that the game wring every last dime of in-app purchasing from the dwindling player base before the game is closed. @CeruleanGirl a friend who just completed the bonus told me that we only have to open/walk off 5 portemanteaux. There is nothing to obtain.
@Specialivy Yes, that’s right, you just have to unlock any 5 Portmanteaux for the Bonus Task.

How when since Sept 19 many of us have a black screen for a map?? And you guys haven't addresed it at all
