We want FUN challenges, not grind: Stop playing as a protest against the harder challenges on XP
Despite multiple protests against the growing difficulty and boredom of the XP challenges, They now even made it 2000 XP. So, I invite you all to protest this flagrant desinterest in their users, by not playing at all. Only if we unite against this, will we be able to giove a strong signal that enough is enough.
ALso, don't buy anaything fro the store, as this will encourage devs to keep going. We have to shake them up and make them aware that they are going in the wrong direction.
Enough is enough: We have to make a stand here

@HPWUakshay is anyone paying attention to these threads? The discontent is high and I agree that the grind is not fun. I saw the 2000 xp challenge and knew I would not be doing this challenge.
I agree. No fun at all. Have given up on this weekend.
Can you please stop complaining? It is a Wizard Weekend not a Comunity Day. It gives extra rewards, lots of books and 2 Dada books. I had fun playing and enjoy a bit of a challenge . Make it 5000 family XP on the next weekend Who says everybody should be able to finish it? There is another thread about being at 60 and there is nothing left to do. Make much harder to play events, that would keep people busy. If you dont like that, dont play or - leave the game, or at the very least this forum.
I am not complaining: I am makinmg a stand here. I loved the game for the very first years and even spend some money on it, which i almost never do. I just want this game to be fun again and not turn into a grind. At least i am saying it and not just quit the game like @Widz wants. I am critical yes, but i have to be, to be heard by the developers. Better be blunt and clear, than to just give up and quit. i want to keep this great game great and avoid it turning into a grind only for the selected few that likes the grind more than the spirit of the game.
I agree it was more of a grind than fun but the 2000 xp wasn’t really a problem for me. The biggest grind was getting the required foundables. I used 4 TTDs and they were completely useless since they didn’t spawn the required foundables and i know others used a lot more than 4. I was out shopping with the family the last day and had my phone in my hand the entire time just to get the last few that I needed. I’ve never had such a hard time completing an event. There wasn’t anything fun about it.
By the amount of ministry book I gained, I prestiges Tom and Percival at least 5 times each. There where lots around everywhere I went on the weekend. And that wasn't a grind, but fun. The game lost the magic a bit because of the restart loop, the black screen bug oder the loss of the green start. To avoid such bugs, is something we should remind the developers of. The different task, and yes even the harder ones, are something that makes it interessting to play. Even the problems with the flares, as anoying as it was at the beginning, makes things more interesting again. You have to adjust, change your strategie und get used to new things. Thats what makes games stay fresh.
It's interesting... that 2000 XP task was actually the first of the list I completed. What's hard for you isn't always hard for everyone.
The 2k task was very easy when you are getting 350 to 600 per returned image.
For quite a lot of people it was the amount of needed spawns that we're the issue.
@Widz It's not so much about people complaining, it's that these kinds of challenges are no fun at all, and people don't even start them. In my circles, people who always participated in community days and Wizarding weekends this time did not. They saw what needed to be done, they saw the spawn rates, they saw the rewards (2 dada, really?) and just didn't even start on the tasks.
Portkey would do well to adjust this, and make tasks more varied.
Like this Darkness Rising brilliant event, for example. Great to see some oddities thrown into the mix.
I don’t mind the repetition and I don’t mind the volume; spell energy usage is annoying but I have a huge mana pool (275 max) so I can deal (although I feel sympathy for newer/normal players).
What I hate is the boring “dance” of attacking and defending for 3 to 8 times against an opponent that has no chance of winning. So many casts against so many opponents that potions barely make a useful dent.
I actually completed the 2000 xp required but did not finish the challenge as could not get all the traces, it was grindy and totally disappointing after having done xp. I agree 100% with this post. Previous weekends challenges recently have been the same too.
Also none related - why have niantic expanded the interaction range on pokemon go for stops and gyms but have not done so in hpwu for inn's and fortresses....
I admit I'm feeling a little like that with the current Brilliant event. The spawn rate is so low that within a day I've amassed 60 family XP out of the 350 needed. I'm not enjoying it and really not bothered about completing the rest of the tasks now.
Most of the weekend event went unfinished for the same reason. I am at the point now where if I'm not bothered about completing the events is it worth playing the game at all?
This is going to be the first event I haven't finished. I refuse to waste 8+ energy or 4+ with a potion to grind out the family xp when I'm only getting a couple points per foundable. It's ridiculous! I'm a maxed professor. It shouldn't be this difficult.
I finished The 2000 family XP requirement in a little over an hour by placing trace charms on Tom Riddle when he appeared. That gave me lots of additional traces of him and Percival Graves which enabled me to place those images multiple times and rake in the family XP.
Niantic has provided new strategies and skills that allow you to adapt the game play to your needs. If collecting large amounts of Family XP is not enjoyable for you, then stop complaining about it, learn the strategies and invest into the skills that make it go faster and easier. (For example, getting dark arts images ready to place before the event starts)
The real grind was the Portrait of Voldemort, It took me 6 hours to find 25 of him. It was completely awful because for every Portrait I found I also came across 5-10 Thestral because they are the same spire color.
On a slightly related note, the Brilliant XP requirements in the brilliant events are pretty bad for anyone that does not have the ability to open at least 10 brilliant portkeys. I think the major issue there is that the Brilliant Family XP rewards for placing images is set way too low and the portkeys are the only (Semi reliable) means of getting good amounts of Brilliant Family XP.
This game isn't fun anymore. I deleted the app a couple months ago. I spent money and was a level 36 so there was a sunk cost perspective to overcome. This game is all grind with meager rewards. If it makes you happy you might be a ****.
@homepuppy then why follow the forums if you deleted the game.
The grind of any game is what makes it playable for me. If players are trying to complete events by sitting at their house, yeah it's gonna be hard. Find an area where you know traces spawn alot, and take a walk, or a drive.
Agree. I have given up on this game. I went from doing dailies every day and never missing an event top a full stop this past weekend. No more of my time or money will be spent on this.
Rofl. Big No. I loved the last 2 events and love the direction Niantic is going with making the game not so easy
I love this game, and it's a great distraction since I'm a delivery driver and have to be out, but this is insane. 2000 xp was such a daunting task that it truly saddened me because I knew there was no way I could complete it. It's the first since the game launch I didn't do.
Now that the give up seal has been broke I'm not even trying to beat this weeks 350 xp. I just don't understand why they've turned the events in to such a grind to complete.
Please give us back reasonable events so that I can enjoy them again. 😥😡😰
@DosEl Google thought I would be interested in this thread, and it's cathartic to hear that other people have become frustrated with this game to the point of quitting.
This game isn't getting more challenging. It's simply requiring more time and money to participate. That's not fun for me.
Agreed. I used two TTDs and spent the next hour and 20 minutes killing everything that showed up. At the end, I had SIX of the SIXTY named foundables I was supposed to dispatch.
Do the math. That means I needed to do NINE times what I had previously done to complete the weekend quest. 9 more TTD potions, 12 more hours of concentrated game play to complete a "weekend challenge."
I don't think the people who set this up actually understand the time commitment they are requiring.
That goes for the current event too. Assignment 2 of 4 is "Earn 350 brilliant event darkness rising family XP." These were hard before, but at least every time you completed a picture, 20 Poachers for example, you got a bundle of extra XP. Now you just get 5. That means you have to dispatch over 100 of the brilliants to complete this assignment. I've already used 3 TTDs, playing hard each time, as well as more casual play, and I've got half done ... in two days. MAYBE I can complete the 4 assignments, but I probably can't complete the additional bonus assignment, because I will be out of time.
To those who say shut up, don't waste your breath. If YOU can afford to play 4 to 6 hours per day, that's FINE for you. But I can't. And I get to tell Niantic that if they don't accept the fact that they have casual players who can't spend 4 hours a day on the game, then they are going to lose players. And if Niatic thinks losing players is fine, great. They get to make that choice, and I'll go find some game that fits my commitment level better.
Niantic, I SUGGEST that you need to play test the assignments you throw out. Just because people who can play multiple hours in a day to complete your assignment doesn't mean the average player, particularly the casual players, are willing to make that commitment. Locking people out of the DADA books just because they aren't willing to make the time commitment probably will cause you to lose players. If that's OK with you, then nothing more needs to be said.
@Jhawk359
I REALLY appreciate your comment above about taking SIX hours to complete the Voldemort portion of the quest. I'm delighted that you didn't find this time expenditure too much. I am glad you like the game to be this level of hard.
SIX HOURS. From a person who is happy to spend SIX HOURS. Niantic, is this the fan base you are trying to recruit for your game? People who can spend SIX HOURS getting ONE of the SIX events in your Weekend Challenge done? Did you note that although he has figured out how to get the right color foundable to appear, he still says he has to deal with 5 to 10 Thestrals for EACH Voldemort? Did you do the math? By his own estimate, he had to deal with 125 to 250 Thestrals to get the 25 Voldemorts. That's just one of the many things that bother me. I don't have time to wade through 125 Thestrals to get 25 Voldemorts. If Voldemort is supposed to be a target, something which appears often enough to have a bounty on him, shouldn't he appear more often than 1 out of 6 to 11 foundables of the right color? And just how many is that of all foundables, regardless of color? 1 in 50? 1 in 100? Three days of playing, and I got 9 total Voldemorts. I never let one get away from me. I used Strong or Potent Extimulos on every one. When I only see 9, and I got all of them, but I needed to see 25, that's not MY FAULT. That's Niantic's fault. That's like the Boy Who Cried Wolf. Voldemort is a danger, but he's so non dangerous that only NINE instances of him appeared to me in 3 full days (not that I played every minute, but who does play every single minute?)
Please at least be honest with us and say so. If SIX HOURS is the standard to compete one section of the six event weekend challenge, then it's time I uninstalled the game. I'm a casual gamer. I play this while waiting in line at the store, when waiting at a stoplight, and an hour or two a day while walking through my neighborhood. OCCASIONALLY, I will put in a 3 hour stretch at a city park where there are lots of portals, especially if the challenge is within reach. I'm not willing to increase that just so you can make the game out of the reach of the casual gamer.
Like others, I got the 2000 XP. But with 80 minutes of concentrated play, two TTDs, and two BBE, and I only got SIX of the SIXTY named, along with Voldemort, I realized that I wasn't going to complete this. It's too bad. I really do like the game. But I'm not going to be shut out of advancement, shut out of the desperately needed DADA books for spell advancement, just because I have a life other than playing HPWU.
NIANTIC, I've probably said too much already, but I have one more suggestion for you to consider.
Set up multiple quests, which can be started at will and which have no time limit on completion. For example:
Find 25 Voldemorts. @Jhawk359 might be able to do this in 6 hours, whereas it might take me a week. But because there is no time limit, I would not be locked out of higher level rewards.
These quests can be as hard as you want. It can be hard enough to satisfy those who want a challenge, and still be completeable by the person who only spends an hour or two per day on the game. In this way, you could (perhaps) satisfy both the hard core players and the casual players too. But whatever the targets are, you'd have to make sure they continue to show up for each person still doing the quests.
If you are a game developer, perhaps work on your own work. If not, then you don't know what you're talking about. You're just intentionally causing discord among gamers, and trolling, as well as looking for attention. Grow up.
I've felt the same for a while now. It seems that with each Brilliant Event, it's more difficult to complete. I stopped having fun a while ago. I thought I was the only one
Totally agree. I've decided to at least stop playing the events. Can't complete, so why start.
To add to my previous comment. I work fulltime so can't play the 24/7 required to complete. Using ttd does not increase the number of foundables at my location. Played what tine I could over the last 2 days, and only 66 fam xp!!! How can I possibly complete. Thanks, but no longer shall I play events until they make it possible to complete on limited time given.
Just looking at the present 350 brilliant XP. Due to the pandemic I am going to ignore portkeys as a source of XP.
20 Snatchers nets you 3 per trace with 5 bonus for the picture but takes on average 8 energy to capture. So thats an output of 160 energy for 65 xp.
20 poachers.... 120 energy for 65xp.
Runestones, for me at least, seems to be a 50% return rate taking approx 15 energy for 10 xp. Can't remember how much a bonus I got for placing 3. I think it was 10? So that will be 45 energy for 40xp. And it also requires 6 runestones.
Adding that up 280 for 130xp with nets 3 stones.
Another 280 takes you to 260 with a further 3 stones for a total of 6. So 45 energy for 40xp.
Total so far is 605 energy for 305 xp
A further 15 traces are required to complete, we'll use an average of 7 for those which is a further 105 energy.
710 energy spent on a low spawn rate foundable, with limited energy generation. That is not fun and an impossible climb for someone who is just starting this game. Even some of the players from day one would find this task daunting.
Honestly this was the wall I hit, too. It started last weekend when I couldn't find enough Voldemort foundables to finish, despite using numerous TT potions. I just had enough when I saw the 350 family xp. No. I'm not going to catch 100+ foundables that take 3+ hits even with potions. I'm not going to even try to complete this event. There's not enough payoff to justify the grind. I'm not spending money on potions to waste on foundables that don't help me prestige pages and get manuals or guides. I catch those stupid foundables and get virtually nothing.
No, I'm not wasting my time with this.
