I never come on here to complain about this game. Not when there are bugs, or when you all move the goal posts and communicate poorly. I understand there are things behind the scenes that players won’t fully grasp. But just when I though the brilliant events couldn’t get more anymore repetitive or monotonous, this one popped up. Please don’t confuse “challenging” with just plain boring and tedious, merely to arbitrarily extend the duration of the event. Returning an endless amount of poachers and snatchers, using a ridiculous amount of SE for each, is just a soul-sucking exercise. Combined with the fact that no one is ever in the fortresses, there is very little keeping me from walking away from this game. Please take these concerns seriously.
Completely agree with the above feedback so so does my groups of 38. “The game is now more annoying and makes (us) less likely to want to play more.” Many of us used to spend money on this game but want to spend nothing now that it is so obviously just about grabbing money from us while doing the least amount of work and not about making a fun game. Playing this game is more like nails on a chalkboard. It used to be fun when you could complete most tasks within 4 hours, the rest of the time was allowance for everyone’s very busy schedule. Little to no spell energy on the ground, 5-8 spell energy to take down a foe, getting 3-4 XP at a time to reach 350 xp?! All insults! I don’t know how to word this more strongly, you guys are heading in the wrong direction. Change before you loose us all. And this is from someone who’s been trying to keep my groups interested and still playing this game...because it used to be fun.
I'll say that I hate playing the game now. I want to want to like it, but I doubt you listen to people saying it is "less fun" so let me put it in more absolute terms: I hate this game
The second task is absolutely ridiculous - I just got to it and put on a TTD and walked around. 175+ spell energy later, I have a grand total of 83 Brilliant XP from the traces. The ONLY saving graces are that I'm in an urban area with a lot of Inns that is relatively open and COVID free, and am also a maxed out Auror. Otherwise, this would be impossible - I've already written off doing anything with the bonus assignment.
Sorry to say that if you are a newbie or live in a rural area, you will not complete this event. Full stop. Which is absolutely ludicrous given that these Brilliant events are the ONLY way that the game moves the story of the Calamity forward. The last time we had the Poacher he wasn't nearly this difficult to return - why the change?
This event could have been awesome - I was looking forward to fighting the Poacher and Snatcher - but, once again, WB have found a way to ruin it and annoy the players. We seem to get the exact opposite of what we ask for. Some players would like more challenging, interesting tasks but instead we get boring, grindy tasks. And the spenergy required is ridiculous!
A lot of Countries are putting new restrictions and lockdowns in place, so it was good to hear that WU wouldn't be rolling back some of the bonuses like PoGo has. However, this is definitely not a play at home event and neither was the Dark Arts Wizarding Weekend, with both events having low Foundable and spenergy spawns. That note should be removed from the event info if future events are going to be like this or the Wizarding Weekend.
I genuinely don't understand what the team are aiming for with this game. @hpwulola@HPWURiver do you have any insight for us? You've mentioned that there are 'exciting events' to come - I really hope you didn't mean this event! Nobody seems to be really listening to what the players - your customers - want. We've been asking about new content for months but still have no answers. The SOS lessons are boosts to 'help' us with existing content; they don't really add anything new. We haven't had a new page for months and at this point we need a lot of new pages to make the game interesting again. I think it's about time we had some kind of a road map for this game, with what we can expect from it and when.
Well, I just finished the 350 Brilliant XP task. It took me several hours of pretty intense play at several hotspots.
I’m not seeing any Brilliant XP at my home at all. If you can leave home, it’s definitely doable, but I am not sure it is if you are stuck at home. I haven’t used a TTD at home yet so I’m not sure what results it gives. I used a couple away from home but I didn’t really pay attention to what was from the Tonic and what was already there.
There were definitely a lot less brilliant traces in general than there usually are when I go to my favorite spots, but I found enough.
I agree with everyone who is saying that this is not playable at home, as it’s supposed to be.
as a maxed prof who has been playing since day 1, I am thisclose to abandoning this game forever. It’s like you want people to quit. Endless glitches and bugs, constantly moving the goalposts, making every event harder and less rewarding. What exactly is your goal here? You know they actually have people who get college degrees in game design, right? Maybe Niantic should hire someone who knows what they’re doing. Bitterly disappointed.
This brilliant event is very disappointing. 100 Brilliant Event XP might be appropriate, but 350 is outrageous when you have to spend so much spell energy for each one. Maybe have this as a bonus item, but having it for the 2nd task is ridiculous. I used one TTD and only got 15 XP from it. 5 brilliant spawns in 30 minutes from the TTD. This will be the first brilliant event that I don't finish. I made an honest effort to try, but it will be too much of an investment of my time since I work full time. The last event took me 4 days to get the 500 XP, and required less spell energy. I was hoping that events were not going to go in the direction of being unattainable, but this is making my decision to stop playing the game be easier.
WU thinks an ozone advisory is bad weather conditions so I'm not getting any ingredients around the house today even though the weather is perfect. (Literally, all of North TX has no issues but an advisory to please carpool, but apparently that's a horrible weather condition, unlike the REAL issues for people in fires and paths of hurricanes and storms). Found a few poachers. Only getting 50 XP from them when it takes up to 10 energy to defeat them unless I use potions. if the game's thinking the weather's so bad I can't find ingredients, I'm not wasting potions. I just started playing a few months ago and I've been going like mad, really enjoying it, getting to the events and stuff. Even spent some money. Won't spend another dime and I'm this close to deleting it. It's taking up 3 gbs on my phone and I didn't even let it download everything it suggested to download. I didn't even get the weekend halfway done because driving around for three days looking for local spots to find things didn't even net me enough to collect one set of the foundables required, let alone all three. It's not being fun anymore.
Is anyone else feeling like the game is working against you?
In the first set of tasks, when I needed Poachers, I got about twice as many Snatchers as I did Poachers. Now I am on the third set, and I need Snatchers, but I am getting about 3x as many Poachers as I am Snatchers.
Is it rigged to know which tasks you are on and to skew the spawns away from what you need? Very strange.
@CeruleanGirl I believe you are right. There have been hints of this in past events, also, when certain foundables would spawn in one task and not another. I'm not even close to the third task, but I had the same experience on the first task. About 2/3 of the scarce brilliant foundables appearing were Snatchers when Poachers were needed. Walking around my neighborhood did not help to increase my spawns, either.
Interestingly enough, a Snatcher appeared at exactly the same time as my last Poacher. I left it there, thinking I could use it for brilliant family XP on the second task. As soon as I finished the first task, that Snatcher disappeared, and not a brilliant foundable in sight for hours. I dropped a TTD, used a trace charm and managed to collect a whopping 46 brilliant XP. I guess I should be happy, since it's the most brilliant foundables I've seen all day. At that rate, the second task will take over 7 hours.
When you think about the way the game behaves, and the rewards involved, the devs (or the decision makers) must lol themselves to death at our expense watching us twist like pretzels trying to get this stuff done due to game OCD. We're like a giant psych experiment of rats in a maze, or Pavlov's dogs, being trained to work more and more for less and less.
In general this event feels like a nasty Halloween trick and no treat.
I get more challenging. I like that the encounters are both oddities.
However their stamina is a bit Riddikulus!
I'm playing the event as a maxed auror. 4 to 8 SE each BE oddity is not a challenge it's a brutal slog. It's not fun. Then the return is a miserable 50XP & 3 to 4 FXP.
Compare these oddities to to fluffy and dragons that both have significantly less stamina and are defeated in 2 to 4 SE and have a return of 500 XP
I can see that the energy demand may keep a lot of players from finishing. If I was a newer lower level player this event would be a pumpkin bucket full of NOPE!
These family points are ridiculous. You have to get over 115 poachers to reach the required 350 points since they are only worth 3 points. They also take a ton or energy to fight along with the time it takes. Just ridiculous 🙄
I’m 61 and play about 30-45 mins 4-5 days out of 7. I am level 47 maxed Auror with SOS Appraisal 14,694. I provide these statistics so you can see that I have plenty of tools to play all aspects of this game. I am nowhere as high with my level or SOS as many others, but it is adequate to allow me to enjoy the game.
I have played WU since the first week and have enjoyed it through the glitches and nerfs. However, the recent wizarding weekend and this current event makes the achievements three to fourfold harder to complete. I usually take the full time to complete these events rather than racing through them. But the huge drain on spell energy and the brilliant XP requirement with all of the restrictions on the ability to gather that XP are punitive. The spawns have diminished to a trickle and my area has been a fertile area in the past. Catching these confoundables is a 4-6 trace effort for me and for a newer player it must be twice that hard. You have effectively frozen out lower level players and new players are kicked aside.
Whomever made these decisions needs to acquire some serious wisdom on strategy to ensure the long term viability of this game as opposed to a cheap money grab that will result in initial profits but doom WU to extinction much like the Dodo bird.
Bottom line, the game now has an unpleasant crushing feel to it that sucks the life away from the pleasure out of tracing the confoundables. You have turned the game into a leaden task based system that caters to the most compulsive crowd, not the vast majority of us who want to dive in for a few minutes to escape life’s troubles and then return to the more mundane world.
This game should be an escape, not another stressful endeavor that makes us grind our teethe and reach for a painkiller.
I think everyone who is unhappy with this game should go to their respective app stores and rate the app accordingly, with feedback.
"The team" obviously doesn't listen to anything here or on social media. I feel sorry for Lola and the other reps as well as they are in a tough spot communication-wise, with absolutely no backing or support from "the team". They're just one way messengers.
I’ve been playing since the very beginning, and to date the only brilliant event I haven’t completed is Circus Calamitous part 2 because of the lockdown in my area. Now that 5 port keys are required to finish the special tasks for this event, I guess this will be my second unfinished event. I burned 4 TDD so far and have spent as much money as I’m willing on SE, and I still only have 180 BFXP for the second task. This is so frustrating.
This BE is awful. The traces are 500hp and 700hp meaning that max professors will have to do 6-8 hits with their 96 damage and new players won't have a chance at all. It isn't even done like the poacher event where your fortress buffs would work. Not reworking oddity combat by including it in the SOS tree was a mistake and this only amplifiies that. Not to mention the tasks which just drain all of our resources and require no skill (I'm looking at you 'use 10 exstimulo potions in fortresses')
@hpwulola this BE is not just lame or boring, it is the epitome of tediousness and frustration. I am a maxed auror, maxed magi and maxed professor, both reds and greens, amxed out fully and the 2 'new' oddities require 5-7 shots each regardless of profession? I had thought that poacher -at least- would have been proficient for professors as the non BE form of it had been. And worse still, they each give 3 fxp and the task requires 350 of it?!?! Either the oddities should have been a 1 shot for all proffs. or they should give 10+ fxp each. This is far too tedious and frustrating. Others are skipping the event, if it wasnt for dada/rsbs id be skipping as well, and probs uninstalling.
The 'team' needs to start listening in when we say 'easier' and not do the opposite, they need to start making these a heck of a lot more rewarding both literally and psychologically and a heck of a lot more worthwhile to complete.
@MOTHEROF2LIONS im lv 60 sos training 28k, maxed on all 3 profs, it doesnt matter. the BE oddities for this BE are just as 'difficult' (here read tedious and frustrating) as are for you.
I want to be able to finish both 4 pages and bonus in 1-2 hrs, so I can deal w non BE stuff for the rest of the week, as BE is just a lame pre-existing graphic with a alme purple aura around it, that give little next to nothing pleasure when returning it, please make it so. There is no 'tougher' in this game, any effort to make things tougher just make them even more tedious and boring and frustrating. Just make everything super uber easy so I/we can get our dopamine fix when returning stuff.
@NAVIK oh i have, ive left them a review that'll make their blood curd. And very soon if this **** continues Imma uninstall as well, and Ive been playing since day 1.
I don’t mind the stronger oddities, however I could see it being problematic for new players and kids who don’t play that much. (I have 4 kids, but they all ready gave up on WU)
The lack of fxp from the oddities are what a showstopper for me. I had looked forward to this event with new oddities. Oddly this will be the first event I most likely won’t finish.
In past events it was possible for L20-L30 players to acquire the RSB necessary to build their profession. This event probably makes that impossible. Except for the few whales, the energy expenditure is too large. You need a profession with RSB in this game to participate. (A professor who cannot cast protection, an MZ who cannot revive and an auror who cannot pass focus are all useless in teams)
A second problem is that spawn rates of the current brilliant foes seems lower than usual, which isn't helping even if there is energy.
Maybe the Calamity has put a curse on this game; it´s the only explanation....
Does the HPWU team even play their own game with regular accounts, and not God-mode in-house test accounts? The flaws have already been mentioned in this thread, no need to repeat them.
I´ll probably have to drop HPWU to not let an increasingly worse player experience tarnish the memories of the HP novels and movies.
From @CeruleanGirl: "Is anyone else feeling like the game is working against you?"
You are absolutely right! I've written complaints about it at least since the beginning of summer. I actually paid attention to the previous brilliant events and noticed, that for the last at least 3 or 4 events the odds were always skewed against us. Every time I had to get 10 of one foundable I ended up the event with having seen (and collected) significantly more of the other foundable. Just one example: in the last BE we needed to collect 5 orbs in the beginning and 15 Brilliant Harry Potters in the end (before the bonus tasks). During the whole event I've seen 44 Harry Potters and 89 orbs. More than twice as often!!!
I'm sure the situation is similar for the previous events as well, but the foundables there are at maximum count and I can't see the statistics without placing them (another great feature!), which I don't want to do. I vividly remember that for one of the events in the end I had collected at least 60 of the less needed foundable (I prestiged it twice and went to max again) and only 40 of the more needed one. I'm curious to hear/read what are the statistics of other players.
I have no problem to have challenging tasks, but challenge =/= grind. I loved the tasks to collect foundables guarded by a specific confoundable, because it pointed your attention towards parts of the game one tends to ignore after months of playing. The current repetitive tasks are not fun anymore.
The last WW was the first event since 9 months I didn't even try to finish. The fact that I could not grind fortress foundables to prestige to gold made everything feel pointless, so I played about a third of the time I usually spend on WWs.
Wizards Unite have made a turn in the wrong direction and are going down this path for months now. I'm sad to say this, because it was a fun game. The last events have made it feel like a job, like a task I have to and not necessarily want to do. And I don't want to have an app giving me this feeling.
I'm not quitting... yet. I have started, however, to play less and less, especially when there are no events going. And if the game continues down this path, I'm pretty sure the trend in my behavior will also remain until one day I just don't open it anymore.

For context, I'm a Professor with a General Spell Mastery of 2,020
Snatchers are taking me 6-7 energy each and Poachers take 5-6
This is going to be one heck of an energy sucking event.
Part 2: 350 Brilliant XP = ???!! energy
Part 3: 15 Snatchers = 90-105 energy
...and the five portkeys for the bonus round is just silly imo

Players: well, at least that circus of a wizarding weekend and we've got a battle focused brilliant event coming up - no way they can mess that up.
Niantic: hold my beer.
And prepare for no response or action based on community outcry.
Thanks for telling us how little you care about your customers.
In addition to what I wrote above.
