There hasn’t even been time for players to start recovering resources lost due to the Trace Charm bait-and -switch. 💔
Now, come to find out that Niantic — yet again — has provided blatant misinformation.
By no means is this as detrimental to gameplay as the TC snafu, but answers are needed. This time, you have a chance to get out ahead of the issue, and rectify this before the event starts.
It's obvious that the devs have three goals in mind:
1) Design events so that some percentage of casual players will not complete them.
2) Slow down hard core players so they don't race through all tasks too fast.
3) Ratchet up the g rind just enough that the players somewhere in the middle will maximize gold/money spent in order to complete the tasks.
In my opinion, they went too far this time. This event was designed to get players to maximize time with the app open (many reported needing at lest 4-10 hours) , and to spend maximum resources (exstimulo/TTD/gold).
The problem is, if the tasks are too tedious (thousands of FXP) or rely too heavily on random encounters (0-1 Riddle per TTD, and we needed 15), players will just throw up their hands, close the app, and look for entertainment elsewhere.
I would suggest a few changes:
The change to fortress foundables was demoralizing. Maybe increase the chance of a fragment, but don't lock out players from prestiging by shutting off fragments they need.
Give DADA as rewards per task, not at the every end of the event, so that casual players can still get at least a few.
The rewards were meager at best. Don't make us do a lot of work for ingredients we can pick up on the map, make the reward equal to the difficulty of that particular task. For example, if a task is so difficult that only the most dedicated players will complete it, give us good rewards like gold or vault expansions (or make those the "completed all task" rewards, not DADA).
Many people were unhappy with the resist/depart rate. It's very discouraging when the necessary spawns are so rare to begin with.
I’ve been playing this game since the day it was released in the US. I’m a level 60 player and I’ve been through every iteration of the games alterations.
The last two events we’ve had in particular have been really not well planned out. Too tedious and time-consuming for the average player, and even those of us who play “hard-core“ it took too long and wasn’t fun any longer just felt like a job.
This most recent one with the snatcher took over 900 energy, with very little on the ground, I can’t imagine how a normal player could have completed it or even come close.
I understand that you were trying to get players to engage for longer. Because you believe it generates more income, but what it’s doing is pushing a lot of the base of players out of interest in the game. When it becomes a job, rather than something relaxing that you do to disengage with the stress of normal life, it is no longer enjoyable.
The storyline is also on a repeat record, every time you have a brilliant event you say “this one seems so different from the others“ but you’ve said that multiple times, it’s boring and uncreative.
Lastly, but most importantly, it seems as if those who have designed this game don’t actually play it themselves, so they don’t really understand how to properly adjust requirements to a reasonable level. It’s very haphazard and sloppy.
We used to feel like you listened to us, “fazes” was wonderful, communicative, and became part of the community where we actually go (discord), I haven’t received a single reply from Lola yet, and it feels like dead air when we try to let YOU know “this thing isn’t going to go well, and this is why” it just seems like you don’t actually understand the game and don’t play it yourself.
We are also still in a pandemic, and if you’re going to require both TTD and mass energy, increase what’s on the ground during the events. And give enough ingredients in the free gift to actually complete the tasks.
It’s not that complicated, you need to hire a small team of players to give you feedback or something.
This event made me stop playing. I have seen a *single* Tom Riddle over the course of two days, even while using TTDs and DDs. In combination with the recent trend of tasks being time consuming instead of fun (I'm looking at You, collect 300 event family XP, 2000 FXP or place 5 images), the game isn't worth it for me anymore.
I think it's a shame, because people who have gold pages will collect 2000 XP like nothing, but if You have nothing but bronze, then tough luck.
It's been a nice year, and I hope to try again some time in the future, hopefully when the game is better balanced.

I didn't finish this event, it didn't seem worth it as I was unable to collect the statue & gravestone from wizarding challenge.

Hope this post is heard.
