My slightly different take on community day

I see a lot of complaints about community day. We, my wife and I, ran dark detectors during community day and saw three Philosopher Stones, we hadn't seen them previously. We did have some fortress issues during the event.

My regret is that we didn't meet anyone. We used the local social networking groups to let people know where we were going to be. I saw some more populous areas had larger groups gathered but I was disappointed.

I struggled to make connections in Ingress and didn't really try in PoGo because I want something more like a bowling league than a stay out all hours on a weeknight. I was hoping to connect with more casual players and I think if game had allowed us to list local meetups it may have made a difference in people coming out to meet, especially if they were able to give organizers some type of code for a bonus or special event. Maybe next time?

I pretty much spent the entire day watching the "real time" moon landing so... I was inactive and have no opinion. LOL

Oh man. Do we need a gofundme to get you a new walker? :P

Seriously though, I'm jealous as **** of you at this very moment. But for what it's worth, watching the real time on CBS' YouTube made me feel the feels. I've been a space fan for as long as I can remember. My mom worked at NASA for a stint (in fluids systems) so I got the opportunity to watch a few shuttle launches from... let's just say "closer than publicly legal". It was goose-pimply to watch that footage yesterday. In fact, I didn't even make dinner until after midnight because I was enthralled with the "on moon" conversations - footage you just don't see. Everyone shows the 10 second "The Eagle has landed" bit and the 5 second "That's one small step for man..." bit, but you never get to see the continuing footage unless you look for it. Fascinating.

Neat trivia: Armstrong intended to say "That's one small step for A man..."

I guess the adrenaline got the better of him. hehe

@Osprey1 I agree with you about it would be easier to host an event and post it in the game somehow. I was very active in discord and facebook announcing where I was planning in meeting up and it was very hard to get the message out.

However, I was lucky that I did get some people to come. Originally I had 3 people come and join my sister and I, then two left and another couple came. When the even was over and we were packing up, a third couple arrived and I met them as well (but they didn't see my listing and just saw us.)

I know that in PoGo there's something called a raid where you can drop an egg and it announces to other people around that it's about to happen (I don't play so don't know the specifics). It would be nice if there was some way in game to announce to nearby players that a group is gathering.

I really enjoyed the community day. Not because the game offered a ton of bonuses in game, but because it was really fun meeting others in my sister who also love this game. They should make more opportunities for that to happen.

Community didn't go as planned no thanks to the heat, but we enjoyed it all the same. Looking forward to the next one. I have always found making friends a challenge as I've discovered many players are introverted (as am I) and tend to shy away from others, even when they show up. PoGo helped me overcome my deep desire to remain under my rock and view the world from a distance. I introduce myself often now to help break the ice. Yesterday, I ran into a small crowd working the PoGo CD and only a few were even aware of HPWU, so I put on my sales hat and gave it my best pitch.

@Craeft Really? lol If that's true, sounds like Armstrong unintentionally got it right the first time. Good thing too because that moment is nothing short of being incredibly significant historically and he would have blown it large had he said it that way. By saying it the way he did he represented all human beings, and I for one am proud of that moment in human history.

Im new to the harry potter game as in just yesterday but i play PokemonGo daily. Lil disappointed that some of the features that pogo has arent being used in this game. The friends list in pogo allows u to send gifts daily to your friends for items & allows you to level up your friendship that benefit u in multiple ways, in HPWU it looks like u only get benefits if ur w ur friends, but if thats true there should b a send message so u can tell them in game to meet u. Also no adventure sync thats a big one.

Also in pogo u get 3 types of pokeballs to catch with and multiple ways to get them- pokestops, gyms, friends gifts, rewards for tasks, pokecoins from defending gyms, and then buying with real money. But energy in HPWU u have less options it seems to get energy but spend it way faster especially with the low cap. I feel it either needs a better rate to get or add a slow recharge i mean it is energy if ur not doing anything it should recharge.

Also the raid in pogo is a random thing. we do not drop the eggs we get a pop up saying a raid will start soon and we have a menu to track nearby pokemon that also tracks the nearby raids. It shows you how many, the time it will start, if its already started, and the level of the raid.

Our community day was the day after yours heres what we get on our day so u can compare the features and hope for improvements on yours.

From 4-7pm the pokemon mudkip was picked to be the star. That means that almost all the spawns ul c will b mudkip. They also put in the shiny variant of it into the game at 1:24 chace encounter normal shiny rates 1:450 so pretty good, next lures to lure pokemon to pokestops last the full 3hrs of the event normal rate 1/2hr, all the pokestops change their daily quests to fit the event catch 3 mudkip and give rewards specifically meant to help u durning the event. Then if you evolve the pokemon to its highest evolution form durning the event it learns a special move that it can only be learned during said event. They also put in a community day box at an amazingly good deal with items ul need for the event. On top of all this raids still happen so you have people battling gyms to turn it to their teams color to get bonus points and items to win the raid. A lot goes on in 3hrs but we get notifications on the events and raids even w/o i can c if a raid is gunna happen the egg sits on top of the gym u cant miss it.

Anyways done rambling but hopefully some of the things that made pogo better get added to HPWU soon bc some of the things we have (adventure sync) could have and should have been out during the launch.

Remember that gifts weren't in Pokemon Go from the start. I'm pretty sure that some sort of friend interaction will come into the game in time. Adventure Sync has already been announced as coming soon for Wizards Unite.

I would like to seee something more like raids come into WU. I've met other players at PoGo raids because I saw someone else in the "waiting room" and knew for sure there was someone to find and say hello. I've gone over to fortresses with the green glow a number of times and seen no activiy. I can't tell whether there's nobody still climbing the fortress or if they're coming in at a higher level than I can see yet. On community day I went into a fortress a few times in the hopes of attracting other players with the green miasma with no luck.

I agree, the glowing tower has lured me to fortresses before, but a lot of times I couldn’t find anyone who looked like they were playing. Also, since the lobby times are so short, you have to be there for that quick 20 seconds and spot them about to start or you wouldn’t even know they are about to do a level.

I’m not sure what the answer is for this game, but I agree it would be fun to have a little advance warning that some fighting was going to go down like the raids in PoGo provide.

I would like to see what levels are currently being besieged in the fortress that way you know if someone else is still there and hasn't left yet. A spectator option would also be nice to keep up and pass the time til they clear up.

I would also like to see if someone is currently battling... either we don’t have that ability or the people are battling higher than I have access to. I did see one time someone was in the waiting room, when I rushed to join, they disappeared. I can only guess I wasn’t fast enough.

@Dogoutlaw I joined in on one a few weeks back where the player was consistently hitting lvl3s. A few of the times I made it into the lobby just shy of their battle starting and nothing displayed showing me they were there except the green miasma at that point. I thought the same thing initially on maybe they were striking higher than I had unlocked but after reading comments here I haven't seen anyone soloing 11s yet. Would also be nice to see the other players level and stats...

@CytopeAchen I’m not so worried about seeing their stats, it wouldn’t affect my decision to join them or not. Just being able to see them would be amazing.

Not that they see much use but Ingress does have something called a Beacon that you can get during special events or from the store. You place it on a location and it lights up the map at that place for an hour. Maybe we could learn the spell to throw red sparks over a fortress to call any nearby players? I could see it being abused or abandoned, but perhaps during Community Days that could work.

Or even Sonorous and select from a premade list of shout outs with the option to place your profile pic beside it to make you easier to identify if you so choose.

Definitely digging the ingress beacon idea maybe a twist on the dark detector or a sorting hat on top. We are using rooms off of pogo discord to connect with others. WU has a slow warm up right now in our area as most people here are hard core pogo raid teams. We will bring them to the dark side.. we have cookies lol!

@CytopeAchen I solod 12 today as an L8~9 Auror. Just needed some potions. I can solo 8 & 9(not elite on the way) without potions now.

P.S: and by the way, some beta players solod 20(fortress level). I saw a professor beta tester did that on youtube.
