What is the point of paying in resources for all the TC additions if we get more of the exact same thing we do every day from a TTD (low level traces)! And paying to get more TC recharges more frequently ? Why? I haven’t received one in the past five days and have easily opened 100 chests??
I understand as well as the majority of the player base that the TC was over-powered as since SOS was released I have leveled up 10 times so I get that but I am 8.5 levels from the END OF THE GAME!! So instead of nerfing and fixing these type of mistakes of the developers why don’t they continue the game past level 60 or adding more pages or more families? Just more of any kind of content...the game will end for me in less then two months.
I have been a loyal player from day one and have been there through the ups and downs of this game including fragment-gate where I lost hundreds if not thousands of fragments and this may push me over the edge. Between all of the “events” where we are literally hobbled by the bugs and server issues and can’t login to the game. I love everything HP related but this is supposed to be a stress reliever for me and lately it has become so laborious that it is no longer fun anymore.
The one thing I looked forward to every day was seeing that red beam and knowing I got a total of 7 of them meaning 140 FG and now it is totally worthless!! Every month it is some useless “apology gift” which is nothing but **** fodder. I really hope the Niantic/HPWU team can get it together for the future players but I Know for a fact that there are plenty of other games on the market that do not consistently put out mistake after mistake after mistake. I just hate the constant disappointments which seem to be weekly now. I don’t recall it being nearly this awful this time last year.
Niantic has to know that continuing to steamroll their player base will have financial repercussions and that they will continue to loose players at an alarming rate. Or perhaps they just don’t care as more new people file in every day. I don’t know but between fragment-gate and TC-gate where the powers that be say they are “going to make it up to us” but I just see that we continue to get the short straw as the people that are pumping real money into the game and get some apology gift that costs like under $2.
The Trace Charm as it was initially implemented made sense. All the SOS lessons with books and manuals used to complete the SOS lessons were reflected by the rewards from using the spell charm on a similar threat.
Being rewarded with random threat levels (if that's what it has changed to) makes it little different to Tonic for Trace Detection or a Dark Detector.
If it rewards with random foundables at the same (or higher) threat level I'm ok with that.
Trying to keep announcements brief and to the point unfortunately subtleties get lost or confused.
If this had been the way from the beginning then it would have been fine but you can’t change it now. This ‘fix’ just makes the game less fun to play. I’d be happy with the same severity or higher but not being given a bunch of things I can see any day of the week and don’t help me progress in the game at all
The Trace Charm should continue to return foundables equal or higher in level to the foundable on which it was cast (i.e., all traces revealed by the Trace Charm cast upon an emergency foundable should be emergency traces as well). I've really enjoyed and been excited to play the game since the addition of the Trace Charm, so I'm angry and disappointed that Niantic would roll out this awesome feature for 45 days then nerf it rendering it virtually worthless (only after I've spent all my SOS resources on improving the Trace Charm, of course). After 45 days of game play with the Trace Charm and no indication from Niantic that it was not working as intended, they then change it with no warning and have the audacity to claim "it was always meant to be this way." Unless Niantic commits to restoring the Trace Charm so that all traces it returns are equal in level to the trace on which it was cast, I can guarantee I'll never spend another dollar on Wizards Unite and will most likely stop playing altogether.
This so-called fix ruined the point of the trace charm. If I wanted a bunch of low level garbage traces I'd use tonic for trace. But the charm seemed more valuable. So I spent time making it even more valuable. But now you've gone and make it worthless. Nice work. Way to treat players. I won't be spending another dime on this game.

It's already been said in this thread but I just want to add my voice to help make it clear just how bad this change feels as a player. I was super pumped and spent time and effort and money prepping for this weekend.
After your "fix" all of that excitement is gone and I'm left with the feeling I was misled into spending those resources.
I can understand that perhaps things were overpowered but you've done an extremely poor job of communication on this and then nerfed it into oblivion. Please find a middle ground at the very least. Keeping the change this way, in my opinion, is going to turn away a lot of your players, including myself.
Niantic, I wasn’t bothered by the rest of the problems, took them in stride.
This trace charm made the game exciting again when it started to feel redundant and boring.
I’ve never been a gaming person - this was my first one in 44 years on this earth. Level 48. And this move will likely push me to abandon the game altogether.
I think as suggested earlier, the best way to address this is through the App Stores.
First, I am immediately changing my rating to one star.
I am going to allow a little time for Niantic to do the right thing and correct their erroneous "fix".
If they do not, I will be reporting this app for misleading content.
First, offering multiple SOS lessons that stated they would return additional fragments with the Trace Charm that did not work that way and refusing to refund resources spent on these lessons.
Second, for allowing the Trace Charm to function as it had been for 6 weeks and NOW drastically changing that functionality, again after significant in-game resources have been spent based on that functionality.
Third, this new change is not performing as stated and is returning low-level traces counter to it's stated functionality.
These are classic Bait-and-Switch tactics and are counter to the policies of both the Google Play and Apple app stores.
So there you go, people.
If they won't listen to their players in these forums or through the Contact Us forms in game, affecting their app store ratings, and potentially their ability to list the apps in the app stores, should get their attention.
(And keep in mind that a game being reported for misleading content by multiple players is likely to cause all the developer's apps to be reviewed or affect the developer's ability to list any apps in the stores. Meaning Pokemon Go could be affected by these actions. Trust me... That would hurt.)
This basically makes the Trace Charm (plus proficiency and efficacy node upgrades) pointless. And I've wasted many many restricted and other books. A fair solution that doesn't break the game might be for additional rare foundations when you upgrade efficacy, and the original foundable you cast it on, but ONLY that one, returns increased fragments - (the number would depend on how many proficiency nodes you've updated). That way there is still incentive to update the efficacy node (more rare spawns) and the proficiency node (the spawn you cast it on returns more fragments).
Hey Niantic, thanks for once again taking an aspect to the game that was great, and ruining it.
There has been a routine trend that seems to be the “standard” by which Niantic operates. There appears to be a complete lack of quality control when it come to HPWU. With every update, we seem to have a laundry list of issues that send most players jumping through hoops, only for us to get some crappy “sorry” gift. It is EVERY update. I would really like to think you guys, as a collective whole, or more professional than to just throw something out to see how it works, without it being worked on for months. So, why then, in those months, are all of these issues somehow falling through cracks? And these aren’t little issues. And not to mention, when these BIG be features roll out, you guys are silent for months, leaving us to speculate on how it’s supposed to be. Then, it gets completely changed from how it was supposed to work, and it winds up being one more good aspect of the game you guys take away. And what happens as we continue down this road? As loyal players who continue to stick with you guys through it all? We keep getting screwed.
Unfortunately, I don’t see how many of your more loyal players aren’t going to reach a point, where they say it’s no longer worth the headaches your product gives. Can you guys please show us it’s not a bunch of 5 years olds running around making decisions, giving us something to take our minds off of how you just screwed us?
This is arguably the WORST "fix" you've done yet... The duplicate charms are ABSOLUTELY the only reason I've dedicated so much in the trace charm... And having just used one and only having ONE additional trace show up was an absolute waste of a trace charm anyway. Please reverse this!

I agree with everything said above but I would also all that it's a terrible idea to lie to customers. In the past several "bug fixes" the messaging has been that "it was always meant to be that way" when the functionality written into the code AND the written description copied in multiple locations tell another story. This is clearly an instance of the game designers realizing after the fact, oops, derp, we made the progress too fast to fit in with our ten year plan. We'll just fix it by lying. If that's what's happening, admit it, don't lie. Now go put back your players' favorite feature.

The whole point of saving and placing the trace charm on red beams was to receive red beams... this change on top of the earlier "error" (where it was clearly stated that the number of fragments returned increased with proficiency upgrades) you are now changing this....the lack of integrity is appalling.

Look at this point if you haven't realized that the nerfing of the trace charm without fixing the proficiency issue has been total disregard of your player bases time and money.
Your options are as I see it three fold.
1. Return the trace to the way it was.
2. Fix the proficiency issue and rework trace charm to show traces with same level of severity. Or at least one tier lower.
3. Leave things the way they are and lose a large chunk of players to the next big fad.
Some of us got cheated of fragments which Niantic refused to give back after bungling rolling out the new fragment framework. As a result, my friend got so fed up, he gave up the game altogether.
Next, we got cheated of our field guides and ministry manuals when we were lured by the description of Trace Charm Efficiency only to find out that it doesn't work. Later YOU would backtrack to say it was not the intention. Yeah right. You would actually come out with a skill that doesn't work at all with the exact description of how it should work and then say no, that is not how it should work and still doesn't do anything.
Now, you are telling us after more than a month of showing us how Trace Charm Efficacy works, after we have seen how Trace Charm Efficacy works and subsequently devoted enormous resources to upgrade Trace Charm Efficacy, you are telling us that is a bug?
Can I ask for a refund for all the resources used then?

Being that this game past the 1 year anniversary, the game needs catchup mechanics to encourage newer players to stick with the game. Even though you state that this duplication is a known issue, the unintended consequences are more beneficial to the entire playerbase compared to the fix which creates negative play experiences.
You can call it a fix. But we see it as a nerf. Nerfs are never a good thing especially when communication is relatively poor. Nerfs drive excitement for the game down. That's never a good recipe for success.
Also, there better not be any glitches that shut down the game for players when fortressing this upcoming weekend because for several past events, the knight bus glitched and shut out your player base from playing your game. Do note that the player base will wonder why the devs decided to fix trace charm when they could be sure that fortresses wouldn't be bugged especially when the event task requires the playerbase to fortress with teammates.
One resolution I propose is to allow the player base 1 reset to their SOS training so that we can reallocate our resources to how we see fit. Because the timing of this trace charm "fix" is poor especially with an event coming up.
Already, my enthusiasm for this weekend's event sunk and I'm not alone in feeling this way.
I am so disappointed in the clarifications, fixes, nerfs, and all around poor decisions you have made with the trace charms. I was already frustrated to have the foundables become more difficult to return. Then with the introduction of the SOS tasks. This is not the way to go. You can gate progress by issuing limited DADA books but why restrict the fun of trace charms? The entire sos tree is so bland and uninteresting after this change.

I never liked the new skills feature in the first place because it forces us to do the mundane, boring part of the game to advance. But at least I used to have ways for it to be efficient by casting Trace charm on red flares.
Now it's just **** and feeling like you're spinning in place. App games are supposed to be fun.
Its been my experience that 1 in 10 uses resulted in the same spire spawn if even. What I was enjoying as a house captive was that using it on say McGonagall gave me swooping evil or such there by allowing me to get spawns I don't usually have near me. I was able to fill pages I had previously not been able to. Already you owe me a ton of fragments since I should be getting 4 per and get 2 though top screen shows 3 which is still NOT WHAT I PAID FOR IN SUPPLIES I earned those and you're robbing me. If nothing is working as intended RESET SOS AND GIVE US BACK All our books!

What I was enjoying as a house captive was that using it on say McGonagall gave me swooping evil or such there by allowing me to get spawns I don't usually have near me. I was able to fill pages I had previously not been able to.
