Restricted Section Books should definitely be returned. They are way too hard to come by. Better yet, just revise the code so that Proficiency ACTUALLY works the way you said it would in the first place.
I've spent some DADA books just to unlock a whole branch to upgrade number of fragments retrieved! The only good solution I see here is to reset the whole tree refunding all spent resources, so we can spent them again having knowledge that even more nodes are pointless, than we thought.
This is ridiculous. The wording wasn't confusing in the skill descriptions. The outcome wasn't what was expected, and the reward screen numbers reinforced that rewards were not calculating correctly.
I understand the post-launch assessment becoming that the design was over powered. But don't try to pretend that what is being "clarified" here is what anyone was supposed to infer from the game as delivered.
I can accept the new design you've described. But want my books back to invest differently now that you've made this change.
I bought Deep Dive, Foretelling Foundables, and Dangerous Attraction hoping that the devs had some sort of decency to make good on what was written. I mean, surely several eyes looked over the skill tree content before releasing it, right? Instead they shield themselves with a vague “it’s a bug” utterance when the problem was brought to attention and are now essentially hurling pennies at us like some bait-and switching junk mattress store.
1850+ field guides and 600 ministry manuals spent gets me a pack that’s less than 5% of the currency lost. (And it supposedly isn’t even a pack that addresses Proficiency-gate but another of the countless fails)
Devs, if you are trying your darndest to make people quit the game, just shut it down. Do you get a kickback if your stats show lack of user growth before ending it?
I think it is a good thing that TC only gives 2 fragments/foundable. If given (up to) 8 fragments the game would be seriously nerfed with one TC giving up to 80 fragments (8 new foundables plus 2 of the original times 8).
But the lack of proofreading/testing/QA is frustrating, especial given the 2.14 update trainwreck. (Almost gotten all lost green stars back, just 5 more to go 4 months later...).
Every node for trace charm proficiency says that you will receive an extra fragment. The node was intended to give an extra trace fragment because it gives you one for the first node. That’s why most people spent books on it. I would like to have my nodes reset and my books, field guides and ministry manuals back so I can spend them the way I would have if I had know that you were not going to fix the bug.
@hpwulola After sleeping on this, I realized I’m far more upset by how Niantic is choosing to handle this than the fact that we won’t be earning more fragments. 8 fragments each from 8 traces would have been a super power, but the dev team should have known that and should never have had more than 1 “proficiency” node then.
There are 2 aspects I’m most upset about. First is how long it took to say ANYTHING. You knew from all the reports received and comments posted that this was how the lessons were worded and how the community as a whole understood proficiency. You could have said something weeks ago before so many players invested valuable resources into it.
Secondly own the mistake. Passing the blame onto your most loyal players for “misunderstanding” is a really bad look. The proficiency lesson descriptions don’t even mention WXP or FXP. They specifically state that you’ll receive more fragments. We didn’t misunderstand, someone at Niantic either made a huge blunder with the text for every proficiency lesson, or realized that adding a fragment for each node would make the trace charm too powerful and changed their mind at some point but didn’t change the lesson text.
Also, why call them all proficiency if they don’t all do the same thing? One of them gives an extra fragment and the others give WXP and FXP (which isn’t even mentioned in the lesson text)? That makes no sense whatsoever.
There are several suggestions posted throughout this thread that would be a much better way to handle this. I hope you look at them seriously.
I'd like to volunteer to beta test these new features prior to roll out. It looks like there's constant bugs and different experiences for players. How does Niantic expect to make more revenue from new and existing dedicated users if there are constant bugs and confusion on gameplay? I cannot even recommend this game to more friends because it is buggy.
I want to support this game and have spent lots of money on it, but I cannot justify spending more cash when the current revision seems to falsely advertise their features and when we ask for clarification we get vague responses or insulting gift packs.
I had a horrible experience trying to get a refund on dark detectors when they didn't work as they were advertised, and the response from support team was so bad I realized none of these features are guarantee, . So I seriously doubt that they will refund now.
Tl;dr still confused. Want SOS Training to be better and deliver as originally advertised. And dark detectors are worthless. Don't buy.
I have a small community of WU players. 5 hardcore players and another 5-7 Pogo players casually playing WU. By the end of this post it will become clear why all of them would eventually stop playing if this is how WU is going to respond to players' concerns @hpwulola !
We were so excited with the sos tasks and kept scanning through the tree, discussing it and interpretting it. We reported some of the bugs here and I personally made a post with an assessment of how overpowered TC would be if it functioned as per the descriptions. One would get about 40 treasure trunks for a trace charm on an emergency that one has on a gold page. On an average, you get an extra charge with these many trunks and can keep using TC almost infinitely!
I had faith in Niantic and kept upgrading proficiency assuming they will fix it eventually. Clearly my faith was misplaced! I was expecting a nerf, but what we got is a bait and switch. I have never scene such a ridiculous redressal of a bug!
I see three options:
1. Nerfed version of trace charm which increases fragment count for the original trace we cast it on and its clone. The other bonus fragments based on the efficacy get capped at 2 fragments. This still gives us the relief that we can cast it on something rare to get much closer to placing the required images.
2. Refund all of the resources for players who want to reset their SoS skill tree. The blanket crappy bundle for all doesn't address the fact that everyone made investments to different levels. Professors for one had few RSBs to begin with and I spent most of mine on trace charm. Now this clarification or free bundle doesn't even cine close to fixing the permanent damage that has happened to my account!
3. Sleep over it again for a few weeks and let the game die down quickly. Because long term players like me would quit given the permanent damage that has happened. And then there is no community for the newer players to learn and thrive in. So they will also quit eventually given there is nobody to help them navigate this buggy game!
So yes, expecting my local community plus many more such wizarding communities getting wiped out soon. 😐
Under no circumstances do I want the Sos tree reset. I am content with what we are getting with trace charm proficiency. I would be buying it sooner or later with the new description anyway.
Resetting this one is quite easy given that everything is clear, unlike the registry reset which was a black box where you didn't know how many get carried forward, whether to prestige first or place first, etc.
Just give a reset token so that those who feel wronged can reset while the rest can continue as usual!
Can I also just say that you desperately need to communicate this more clearly to users, i.e. by an in-game pop up. Only a tiny fraction of players will come to this forum and find this announcement, so many thousands out there will remain oblivious to this until the next update drops, and in the meantime they are burning RSB and DADA. Every day that goes by is making this situation worse.
I also think that once this issue is sorted, there should be a statement on the general lack of reliability and stability in the game. I played POGO for three years before switching to WU, and I rarely if ever saw any problems, once we got past the server problems on go live, which everyone knows was caused by the unexpected success of the game.
Meanwhile WU seems to be having a major issue every week or so. Game breaking bugs, server problems, badly implemented changes that lead to chaotic fixes, and a seemingly never-ending stream of 'apology boxes'. Something is seriously wrong in how you are developing, doing QA and generally managing this whole game. Right now it comes over as amateur hour, and frankly if it carries on like this people are just going to vote with their feet.
Not enough. We players (ahem... Your paycheck) have been sold a bill of goods. This is FRAUD.
Most of us have invested countless hours and substantial real world money to play this game. We are promised X, and trust you.
You deliver Y, then say "oops, here's the in-game equivalent a spoonful of peanut butter to make up for all those books we just stole from you." Nope. That apology list should include a couple dozen restricted section books. Not 10 measly gold, not 3 runestones. Players at the level to have invested in these charms don't need 10 gold and 3 runestones. 10 gold won't even buy one basic potion. I have literally hundreds of runestones.
Maybe if this were the first time, we would let it slide. It's not. We remember having lost all our fragments. Remind me again how Niantic "made that right". Just this week we all lost progress in the brilliant event. The list goes on and on and on.
Pathetic, paltry. Make it right. For Real. In my mind, that looks like the option to reset my SOS tree, receive a refund of all in game currencies invested, and let me reevaluate which nodes to prioritized based on your "clarification".
The way it was originally written is clearly game breaking. However the fix should be to provide the bonus fragments to the original spawn only and keep the bonus traces as +2. I think most people would be ok with that.
IMHO this is highway robbery! Just reset SOS and give us back all our books then go in and "fix" the spells to their true information and lower their costs since they come no where near doing what you described them doing! I understand you created a leveling monster. You did it. NOW FIX IT RIGHT dont ROB US!
What the heck! I’m more than frustrated at the moment, and 2 bonus DoD books and some extra junk is not going to rewrite all the time involved in my planning and implementation of the SoS tree.
this is unconscionable , you can’t design a system one way and then reverse course weeks later.. this is a complete violation of our time and in some cases money...
please explain your thinking so that we understand why you went down this path!
Have the people demanding a reset and refund of the SOS tree really thought that through? Worst case scenario, we end up with another fragment debacle where things don't get refunded properly and then there's something else you complain about for months (yes, im still irked by my lost stars and fragments too). Best case scenario you get everything back and only make very moderate changes to the skills you currently have. Given the lack of DADA books so far, there really aren't all that many different paths and masteries you could have gotten yet, especially for the high level players who were given a lot of resources when the trees went live, and who seem to be the most vocal here about demanding a refund.
Even if its not giving all the fragments you thought, the trace charm is still dead useful, and has been a welcome addition to the game.
@Klc5048 an option to reset and collect all the books we’ve spent would be nice. I sure wouldn’t invest where I have had I known it was only going to be for more exp. I don’t know about you, but the extra fragments was the only reasoning in the way I focused my usage of the books. Makes me feel like all the extra playing and hard work was for nothing, not to mention gold spent on the extra caldron to brew potions, and the gold spent brewing them faster. Don’t get me wrong, I had fun doing it, but the announcement sucked the initial joy I had at the introduction of the SoS tree right out of Me. I’m left Disappointed and feeling like I’ve lost 4 weeks of hard work.
The RSB And DADA are time locked by events and are an unrecoverable loss. I would be using them either on my third profession (RSB)or saving both of them for new professional lessons. I would like those returned please.
So we are lied to and blatantly decieved and are supposed to be grateful for the crumbs you toss up in reparation? I used to buy coins pretty regularly in this game. NEVER again. You stolen your last galleon from me.
Comments
The "complimentary gift pack" does not come close to making good on what we spent.
Either refund the books, or give us what the node says--more fragments.
Please, Niantic, I love this game, and I play every day, but you're making it so hard to stay invested with this bait-and-switch stuff.
Restricted Section Books should definitely be returned. They are way too hard to come by. Better yet, just revise the code so that Proficiency ACTUALLY works the way you said it would in the first place.

In addition to what I wrote above:
Devs, I’m sure you’re aware that more and more players are at 60 now so your “oops, maybe not” fix to wxp just is a bigger F to long time players.

Ok. So proficiency isn't what it was explained to be.
Fair enough.
But why does it take a month to clarify? And why are those nodes still not disabled (cause the description ain't fixed yet)?
Isn't there anyone else who can answer those questions when Dave is on holiday or Jeanine on maternal leave? Seriously?
We're working faster in our office and I'm working for the government... Not a competitive market.
Thanks for fixing the documentation! The new content is great, I appreciate all your hard work.
