It would be better not to gift everyone as an excuse, but to return the resources to those players who spent them for unnecessary Proficiency nodes.
For example, I opened Fortelling Foundables and Deep Dive. Overall it costed me ~750 Field Guides and that's a lot! I would really appreciate to have these Field Guides back.
May I know what does Trace Charm Proficiency do after the rectification??
1) Increase number of fragments returned
2) Increase Wizarding Xp
3) Increase Family Xp
And if it does not increase number of fragments returned, tat is obviously false advertising and cheating, especially from our hard earned green books where we could have dumped elsewhere.I would like to have my restricted books returned back to me where I pump those green books on team charm proficency
If it was really about FXP and XP, then what is the deal with the rewards screen after returning a charmed foundable. For example, you have 0/10 Dumbledore, you catch one it says +2 then +1 then 3/10 at the top of the rewards screen but at the bottom it goes back down to 2/10. 🤔
And the first profiency actually did provide an extra fragment.
That really makes it seem like they couldn't get the coding right and are going back on what they said.
People invested RSB's in a skill that clearly stated one thing and now your taking it back. Everyone should be given their RSB back, since it makes no sense especially for those level 60 to invest in something that will only give them additional Wizarding XP and Family XP vs the extra fragment as stated.
Why waste them when it doesn't benefit me? I would have either used them in a different skill or my 3rd profession.
The apology pack ??
Only thing worthy is 2 - DADA books that won't "buy" you anything else unless you have 13 more to go with it. Almost everything is 10/15/20/50.
What's worse is so much time and currency spent since the roll out of the SoS tree and THIS is the first time anyone has tried to "correct" everyone on what the skills actually should be. We should have heard about it weeks ago.
Of all the things you could've done, you are doing the one that needs the least effort from you and disappoints all players affected the most.
No changes in mechanics and a ridiculous mockery of a compensation - are you even serious? We've spend hundreds of guides and dozens of very limited RSBs to get the skills that your description said would provide extra fragments, and this is the best you can do? With all the SOS training bugs, knight bus crashes, events having incorrect text and then suddenly resetting progress, this game is just a chain of disheartening experiences.
Booo! This is not a “Clarification”. This is a robbery! You shouldn’t make your players (customers) pay for your mistakes! This is terrible business, and frankly quite unethical in my opinion. You can’t just throw “gifts” out as if it makes up for this! Do the right thing!
The only decent thing to do is to refund the RSBs, FGs and MMs that we spent on buggy nodes in the skill tree. 2 DADA books and some other stuff (runestones, come on) feels more like an insult, TBH.
This is VERY disappointing. We were told one thing and spent valuable time and resources toward a goal that no longer exists. Your Apology Gift is weak tea at best. I want my field guides and my green books returned to my account.
The way Niantic and WB Games should handle this is to reset everyone's SOS training trees to 0 and return all books spent. This has to be done individually so that everyone gets the actual amount of books they have used in their tree.
This way everyone has all the currency they have ever spent and is free to rebuild their tree with the clarified rules of the trace charm in mind.
Please forgive me if I sound completely clueless. I don’t understand what the complaint is here. The post that @hpwulola made seems to me to say that the change was visual only, a problem with the text in the screen that details the Trace Charm upgrades. I realize that I am misunderstanding something but, for the life of me, I can’t figure out what it is that I am missing. I’ve read the thread carefully and can’t figure out what has changed. Before I get accused of being insensitive, I really truly just don’t understand. Can someone please explain it? Thanks.
@CeruleanGirl the biggest complaint is the fact at how misleading the Trace Charm was described or “advertised.” Not only could you increase the amount of traces that appear on the map but you can also increase the amount of fragments that you can collect to be able to prestige your page faster. When going through the skill tree, it’s mentioned in the texts that you can increase the amount of fragments you can get from a foundable by 1, each time you unlocked Trace Charm Proficiency. A lot of players, including myself, were going through the skill tree to try and get all the skills involving the Trace Charm and our biggest complaint was that the Trace Charm was not returning the amount of fragments according to what we’ve unlocked.
For example, I’m at the point in the Tree that I’m suppose to get 5 fragments for every foundable that I return that’s affected by the Trace Charm and that’s not happening. All we’re getting is just 2, which everyone thought was bugged and hopefully get fixed but now with what Lola is mentioning, that is not going to happen. It feels like a slap in the face for a lot of us who spent time and books building the tree and the “Apology” gift is just another insult. This clarification seems more like a retraction, IMO.
This is ridiculous - what compensation are we going to get for the 14 DADA and 18 Green books spent on unlocking 'Piece of the Puzzle' essentially just to get a diddy bit of FXP bonus? WXP is meaningless for those at lvl 60 - what we were promised were extra fragments.
Now the description is being changed to make 'Proficiency' mean something completely different there needs to be a way on resetting these trees so we can spend the elusive DADA books on something more worthwhile. That would be a fair way to say 'sorry'.
Whilst you’re updating text - the description of RSB books still says to be used in Profession Lessons whereas DADA says SOS.
This is a disgusting example of bait and switch. The handful of scraps in the apology pack doesn’t even come close to amount spent on getting the trace charm proficiencies. Honor the original text, or roll back all the currencies spent on SOS so players can make educated purchases.
@hpwulola This game is made in English. It isn't translated from another language. What is the game designers excuse for the poor descriptions for skills? Niantic needs to run their new content through a serious testing and review process, before releasing the content.
Why is it that every new release of content comes with so many bugs? Why do those bugs take months to fix? Even serious bugs like Wayfarer syncing to hpwu are taking over three months to fix!
@hpwulola Could I ask you to pass the following suggestion on to the rest of the team in your next meeting please?
Please remove the “Dangerous Attraction” node from CE III, as nobody in their right mind would want to spend 1087 Field Guides and 429 SOS Manuals as a result of the change to Trace Charm Proficiency.
Players will still be able to access “Preferred Client” via “Quibbles”, so no problems there.
To those players that have already spent Guides and Manuals on this node, you have my deepest sympathy.
In the UK we have a number of consumer laws that cover this bait and switch type of shenanigans so highly disappointed that Niantic think they’re above this.
a full refund of books used and a correction in the text would be the only way forward in my mind
@Dewin99 No... the skill is already there. Many, such ad myself already have the skills. Guides and manuals mean absolutely nothing at this point to me, as my S.O.S. score is over 30k, which means that I am just waiting on RSB and DADA books to get more skills. I know I am not the only person building a reserve of guides and manuals, due to nothing to spend them on; so removing a skill would jus be detrimental to the dedicated players that already have it.
Sure... the skill just adds a tiny amount of exp and fxp to traces, but all the charm proficiency skills are equally as useless.
This is not a 'clarification' it is a change. As others have already pointed out, the existing text is completely clear and unambiguous. You have not cleared up a misunderstanding, you have wholesale changed the text. It doesn't matter that the underlying mechanic hasn't changed, we don't invest in spells based on the mechanic as we can't see it. We invest based on the clear and unambiguous description you provided. It is only after we have invested in them that we discover the mechanic doesn't work, and then log it as a bug since it clearly doesn't do what the description says it should do. Overnight you have changed what was pretty much the most desirable skill to chase after to one most players couldn't give a fig about.
Now, to be honest I can understand why you are doing this. I already thought the trace charm was overpowered, and I've been expecting there to be some sort of Nerf to reign it in. As it stands, if I were to boost up proficiency to return 5 fragments (which I was planning to do within the next couple of days with more DADA books), multiplied by the five traces that I am getting returned for each use, I would be pulling down 25 red beam foundables at least once a day, often more, and therefore farming SOS Manuals like nobodies business. Even as it stands, it's now actually easier to repeatedly place top level images than it is the basic ones, which really doesn't make a lot of sense and has turned the whole prestige system on its head. So fair enough, you created a monster and you had to reign it in.
But even leaving aside how you could allow such an obvious mistake to get into live, and then leave it like that for a month when all it took to fix it was to update the text, the way you have gone about this is disgraceful. Your post suggests that it is us players who 'misinterpreted' what was put in the game, and you're now clearing things up for us. No, YOU messed this up and YOU need to own your mistake and make suitable amends, which is not the 'apology box' you have put together.
Like others I have invested huge numbers of guides, manuals and books in the mistaken belief that this was a highly valuable skill. Not just in the useless proficiency spells themselves, but by slogging through other spells I otherwise wouldn't have bothered with just so I could unlock these. Just last night I dropped hundreds of guides and manuals on 'Energy Efficient Charms' which boosts the Inn charm. I never use the Inn charm and only did this to unlock the proficiency boost below it, that is now worthless.
There are many ways you can fix this, I think the most sensible would be to simply allow players to 'unlearn' any skills they no longer want in light of this change, and when they do refund their in-game currency so they can respend them elsewhere. That would cost you nothing, it wouldn't give players anything they hadn't already earned through the game, and would 100% correct the impact of your mistake. I'd much rather have that, which would be a totally fair way to correct your error, than some trivial sop of an apology box.
But whatever you do, step one is to clearly and honestly own up to your mistake.
@hpwulola As you know, I have mostly been very supportive of the team and decision, but not today.
Whilst I appreciate the open communication rather than dilence on what we assumed wasn't functioning, the outcome is a joke.
Many of my friends and fellow players have dropped a lot of resources into these skills, and they won't get anything back that comes close. Yes, it is just a game, but it is a game that seems to be having weekly major issues at the moment.
The team really needs to consider either an optional reset (with refunded resources) or adding some RSBs to the gift as a bare minimum.
I think the best way to fix this is like @TPO73 points, that a reset of the lessons is allowed (just a one-time reset) so we could distribute the points as we want. That would be the better.
This is b.s. I want my rsb's returned. What is the purpose of having multiple proficiency nodes if you only need 1 node to get the additional fragment??? And then you offer up some pathetic forgive us package through diagon alley? As far as I'm concerned, the SOS lessons are useless, who is going to save and spend literally hundreds of DADA books on nodes that are absolutely useless, not to mention the rsb's that you have conned us into using! Worst plan, terrible communication and even worse apology/compensation!
@hpwulola@HPWUrobert that is a nice gift, for a change. Much appreciated to see guides, manuals and dadas in there, instead of ingredients like ditany etc.
@hpwulola I have always appreciated your messages and honesty about the game and I also know you are in the middle of the devs and players. I do need to echo what all the other players are saying about this topic. And perhaps you feel this way also but are stuck between a rock and a hard place right now.
I have been involved in discussions about the “endgame” and level 60 and am headed there with high speed and intensity. Prior to the SOS skill tree being rolled out I was leveling up about every 4-6 weeks. Last Thursday I leveled up to 50 and am at 550 of 750 so will level up over the weekend I assume. Part of this acceleration is from the WXP received from every trunk which is 1200 for me and then daily I use one TC and can level up a rare trace which nets me typically around 10k WXP plus a whole slew of FG and MM. Also I haven’t maxed out the chests yet because I felt like I needed to slow down my advancement.
So I won’t repeat what other players have so eloquently stated above but I do believe this isn’t right in any way shape or form but also know that in your heart you probably already feel that way to some extent. So if there is anything at all that you can do about it well it would make a large portion of the player base very happy.
sounds to me like they don't want to pay the people to do the research to figure out how to fix the mess so the just offer some worthless apology and a few runestones so we will all go back to being sheep. We want our rsb's back! Keep your worthless DADA books, there is nothing left that I want to spend them on anyway!
Please stop using the term bait and switch, it has nothing to do with this. They weren’t trying to deceive anyone and they don’t get to spend the rsb that players use for the skills lol.
Focus on the severe lack of testing that has been prevalent for the last 6 months instead.
This is completely unacceptable! Why have more than one Proficiency node, especially since as another player mentioned, you give us one in level 25, if the fragment limit was always set to 2? That makes absolutely no sense, and I smell a rat. Do you really think any of us would've spent the number of RS and DADA books to get a bit extra XP (which there are plenty of ways to boost, like via chest nodes and Baruffio) and Family XP, which is available in droves in normal gameplay? Family XP is useless to folks like me who have been maxed out on every family for months and months. Sure, there are runestones to gather, but with the Knight Bus only giving out runestone gifts, we're all getting given more than we need these days.
As a level 48 player, I'm actually not all that keen to get more free XP, because I'm not rushing to hit the level 60 limit. Gameplay gets bland after you reach max level, and I'd probably quit like I did after playing PoGo at top level. Takes away a lot of the challenge, and there's a limit to how exciting just collecting is.
I don't believe for a second this was the plan all along. I think you've gotten yourselves into a tangle and have decided to try to bluff your way outta this instead of come clean as coming clean would take a lot more effort on your part. Some people have spent money in your shop on items to help them get these books they spent on Proficiency nodes, in which cases you are outright stealing from your users.
Come clean. Say you messed up. We're a lot more forgiving about human error than we are getting ****'ed on and being told it's raining.
I suffered so much during the Great Registry Calamity few months ago where I lost hundreds of Dark Chamber Wizarding Wands (and other rare fragments) due to the blunder in registry upgrade implementation. They tried fixing it but nothing of mine was ever restored and I've lost countless hours of gameplay; rare fragments and red spell books.
And now I suffer again for unlocking the pretty much useless Trace Charms Proficiency nodes.
The text "increasing the number of Fragments from those (Trace Charmed) traces" from the Trace Charm Proficiency skill text box is CLEAR and UNAMBIGUOUS. It is what it is. ADDITIONAL FRAGMENTS. There is no mention about additional/bonus Wizarding or Family XP here, at all!
One thing Niantic is that you all got to do better with the QUALITY CHECK in the game. How can this blunder in the descriptions can be made.... well we don't know and in the scheme of things it doesn't surprise me at all anymore.
================================================
Perhaps it was an intended (or unintended bug, like many other bugs in the game) and that they discovered that by giving players up to 8 extra fragments per Trace Charm (of which you can get up to 8 Trace Charms per Pario Vestigus) may NOT be such a good idea after all.
At full Level 16 of Trace Charm Proficiency + Efficacy = it gives minimally 64 additional fragments (assuming base 8 extra fragments for each of the 8 charmed traces AND if you managed to return all of them). If you include the initial fragment, now that gives an extra 8 fragment too (not counting the duplication of the initial trace which is happening now, which I treat as an unwarranted bug in lieu of the proper implementation of the Trace Charm Proficiency).
So, if you got lucky with the golden framed Fluffy (that's the three-headed dog), you will get (1+8) x 8 = 9 x 8 = 72 Fluffy fragments = 7.2 x 600 Family XP = 43 Oddities runestones + 43 * (till up to 1600 Wizarding XP). This means an advanced player can easily get up to 70k Wizarding XP per single Pario Vestigus at Level 16 Trace Charm. (Perhaps even doubled to 140k WXP with BBE?)
So while there is NO SURPRISE that it was NERFED, just that the text in the Proficiency node clearly states it will provide "additional fragments" and many players went to upgrade this skill first (including me). But it's a shame it took one month to fix and the resolution is this "Oh please accept our sincerest apologies and take this 'Make Good' pack and gently move along".
Pls get your s**t together Niantic and please do proper testing, simulation and quality check before releasing a feature live again.

================================================
