I would encourage people, when they are comfortable, to actually try out other professions.
Personally, I did not hesitate to use Green and Red Books on Auror and Professor after maxing Magizoologist. I convinced myself that if those books were needed later for some new lesson plans, well, then I would just be motivated to keep on playing to get more of them.
As it is, I can say that I enjoy being a Professor, **** away on Tower Fortresses or trying higher with some trepidation. The playstyle is different, it has more damage potential than Magizoo and it gives me a better understanding of how others play it. I am Level 14 on it, having bought all the Red Book requirements. I need a couple more months to complete the Green Book requirements.
As for Auror, which I have gotten into recently, same with playing Professor, it is different and interesting. My GF plays a Professor and it appears Auror would be the best duo partner for her too. So, I am pushing it forward for that. I am Level 12 Auror, having bought all the Green Book requirements there, but with a large enough quantity of Red Books to get... which encourages me to Fortress.
Anyways, that is my long winded way of saying... there is new content on the way! And what it is adds to the game, does take away. And a reframing of what the books are for from what we may have hoped they would be for... helps.
This all sounds interesting but I was hoping for more content, rather than enhancements for getting the same content we already have. My motivation for playing is reducing by the day and this just addresses a lot of issues that should have been fixed a long time ago (e.g. foundables being too resistant, not enough spenergy or ingredients especially in rural areas). This also explains the repeat image collection and it feels like this should have come out at the same time so we could have understood that the point of placing images over and over is for the new currencies (especially when you don't need any more runestones). The different skill trees do sound good and I hope the idea is kept for new profession lessons (e.g. different paths for each profession) but without new content to aim for there's not much need to learn the skills. I really do hope this is just the start of what's to come. (The Combat Training look interesting. Hopefully that means new challenges or foes soon, too.)
Hint. Do not place any images until implementation of the new rules...and then wait 48 hours. Do you really want to sticker chase 45 low level Foundables or wait for a special event to peg a rare one?
Some of the new skills seem to be tied to placing stickers. Save them up.
So now, I have to ignore the red pimple that is trying to get me to places images.
So if I’m understanding it correctly, spell books, the restricted section books and scrolls we can no longer use for anything??
yes please just give us advanced Auror lessons or advanced MZlessons or advanced professor lessons, don’t change the game in the middle of play!!
@hpwulola Will we still be able to use our spell books our restricted section books and our scrolls to change to another profession or will those all be wiped away?
Use for existing currencies should be decoupled from this thread. That does not mean current feature is wrongly suggested. There would still, in the future, be some use for these existing currencies - we will have to wait and watch :) Who knows, you might be pleasantly surprised when it drops in and be thankful you stocked them up!
Honestly, I do feel these days any announcement is met with certain level of negative criticism which is very discouraging for developers too. I have complained too, but for bugs and existing issues. For new features, we should always try it out, before quitting. Quitting before trying seems to be "giving up on something you loved doing so far" -> that is not a good thing :)
Someone here mentioned "change in the middle of the game" -> i don't see a better way to introduce this feature rather than using aa combination of existing resources + new resources. Seems like the least loss/most gain for all types of players actually!
I was running through some situations in mind ->
To veterans who are unhappy with this change:
1 -> Case you have stocked up a lot of restricted section books: You have much more restricted section books, so you get an advantage.
To intermediate players who made the choice of keeping RSB or using them for another profession:
1 -> Case you have used up restricted section books: You have to work towards it like everyone else (except veterans). So, it is a new challenge. Your previous RSB did not go waste, you still worked towards that 2nd profession - did not lose out on anything - it is a fresh start for all but veterans. Who knows some might (even now) want to complete their 2nd or 3rd profession, before coming back to the new skill tree?
2 -> Case you stocked up RSB and did not use for alternate profession - you are pretty much close to a veteran now, but you still need to choose one over the other.
Seems fair and square. What is so unfair about this for a new feature which tries to give everyone (including veterans) a challenge rather an "use your existing books or resources to conquer the new feature". That would have been really boring for veterans too. So, I second MRSCIGUY on this!
I think you are right in that there isn’t a better way to introduce this feature @Dragons1111 . My complaint is that this shouldn’t be a feature to be added. We need new content and new content is profession lessons, new families, and those wanted posters.
Maybe I'm looking at this the wrong way, but to me this seems to be the current "Profession" tab divided into Combat Training and SOS Training. So, Combat would just mean profession skill trees, since those are for Wizarding Challenges = combats.
@KODOKMAG I think, this is one of those cases, where it is either gonna be something really big or it is just them renaming a feature we had from the start. I refuse to get my hopes too high up, right now. Gonna keep my expectations low and let them surprise me 😉
"A 3% reduction in brew time, even for a 12-hour Baruffio reduces it by 22 minutes or to 11:38. Does that really make any practical difference to anyone?"
I don't know, the first few levels of the existing skills didn't seem very exciting either. Presumably the new skills will also have multiple levels, and at higher levels will really pay off. I can see one player buffing Greenhouses and brew times while another player buffs Inns and non-flee rates, two very different ways to play.
I just hope there will be some mechanic for a reset -- drink some nasty potion brewed from hyper-rare ingredients, wake up with a headache and zero skills, then a few days later an owl brings you all your books back. Otherwise people could get trapped with skills that don't complement each other.
There are 168 tasks in "Calamity Essentials 1" so I suspect they will build on each other. If they showed us task 167, we would be complaining later that it was a "bait and switch" to show us something so far down the tree.
Yes, the scrolls will be a "problem" for veteran players in that they have a lot of them just laying around. At the same time, given that you gained four for just brewing a potion and using a potion daily, is that really a hardship that they aren't being used in this next phase? The devs have shown that they are willing to change up the daily challenge rewards. So maybe they'll switch it to these other currencies. Yes, the red books not being used is kind of sad, but that means we should feel less worried about working towards completing a second (or third?) profession, outside of the green books.
At the very least, let's find out what this feature is in its fullness before we begin rending our collective garments and gnashing our collective teeth.
@WitchHiker We will release more info this week about how this new feature and the new currency will work. To answer your question, Scrolls, RS Books, and Spell Books will not be obsolete and can still be used for Profession Skill trees.
Also, to forestall the inevitable complaint, read exactly what @hpwulola just said: "can still be used for Profession Skill trees." Just because we're getting the non-profession skill tree soon (gimmee, gimmee! I need I need! ... please?) doesn't mean we won't get a professional skill tree in the future (hopefully not too far in the future? a virtual fan fest plus new profession trees would make for a really nice September *hint hint* 😁)
Will it be possible to trade your scrolls for these new lesson books? That’ll make it worthwhile certainly for players since Day1. I have a huge stack of red books and scrolls. Maxed out Aurors and was keeping them in anticipation for the possibility of new profession lessons but that appears to be an indefinite wait.

Combat training...... Curious

@xxxlindy out of curiosity, what is your source for that info? (honestly asking)
@xxxlindy EXACTLY!

Wait and see, it’s all we can do
Red books are too deeply embedded into the game and required by new players, central to the first lesson plan
There is no suggestion of red books being removed either
I'm really happy to see something new is coming!!
Just please define how soon is soon now (:

I really hope that I am wrong though.
@KatyCro yeah, this update seems about Exploration. Maybe combat training for new kind of oddities?
So many hope, expectation, curioisity, wary 🤔😬

Field guides and manuals will be made available by doing tasks you have already been doing.
Such as placing images.... Paraphrasing.
So, my top bar on my registry page is lit up like a Christmas tree. I'll wait.
@rocketj Right on!
@Magpie31 What’s your take on these changes?
@hpwulola, @HPWUrobert
Can you please tell me if the scrolls, spell books and RSBooks will be obsolete?
with this change over, the least they could do it tell us this info.
@Arugulamoon
If I’m an Auror (Lvl 15) which other profession should I consider? From your above post it sounds like Professor.
@Nollix yes, yes, and yes!!!
Absolutely agree.
Developers have themselves to blame as we ALL have been asking & waiting for the next (COMING SOON) lesson plans.
Such a ‘bait n switch’. Get you to sit on tons of books, scrolls, waiting to use them in the ‘coming soon’ lessons only to now learn,
“oh, hey sorry, we’re changing in you”.
Poor form developers—$$$$ driven!
@t1593541166241
Great points the Developers need to seriously consider! Love the idea of -missions from various departments and Diagon Alley, Olivanders...
Lets all ask for Dementors too and more dragons.
@KODOKMAG I think, this is one of those cases, where it is either gonna be something really big or it is just them renaming a feature we had from the start. I refuse to get my hopes too high up, right now. Gonna keep my expectations low and let them surprise me 😉
@morganza
Your comment (copied below) hit nail on head-“RSB, only ones you can’t grind for”
Exactly ‘why’ they chose to keep those and not other two. No way we can acquire more like we can now!!
Again developers, very poor form!
The $$$$ greed is ruining the game.
@KatyCro Amen.

Never mind the video content, I just want his hat!
Do we know if the "don't return any images" recommendation also applies to the challenge fragments, or just to the family foundables?
