Well, folks, the key to Swooping Evils seems to unfortunately be leaving the house. I’ve been at the Catholic Church Parking lot near my home for a half hour or so which has two GHs and always a lot of traces and I’ve gotten 5 so far. Three with a TTD and Two without.
@CeruleanGirl compared to the rare traces on previous community days, the swooping evil seems to be a lot rarer. I don’t think I’ve ever had a TTD on previous community days that has resulted in no rare traces from the ones that are supposed to be increased, however that has happened this time. Usually a TTD would result in at least 2/3, maybe more from each use.
Completing the tasks has become a lot slower during this community day.
Did anyone else get NO knockturn alley signs despite spending all day playing? I know the probability is 1/16, but I completed most of the tasks and got everything but knockturn alley signs... very frustrating!
I really wish Niantic would consider how many spells are needed to accomplish the tasks. Of course I get a lot of one hit wins, but factoring in the times that I cast 6 spells and then the twit disappears, I figure that's about 3 per. So 30 Executioners plus 20 LeStranges plus 15 Thestrals plus 10 Swoops equals 225 spell power needed, not to mention the ones needed for five 14th or higher Fortress encounters.
Niantic, here is a CLUE. When you make it IMPOSSIBLE to get the number of spell charges you need to complete a challenge, you are driving people away from your game. If you don't increase the lightning bolts, then people quarantining at home have NO CHANCE at all of completing the quest. NO CHANCE means people go find another game that gives them a fair chance of accomplishing the tasks.
@Imaginatio I found plenty of Swooping Evils with no TTD as long as I was out at the church and the parks. I’ve gotten 27 and only four were with TTDs active and still 8 hours to go. So the play from home aspect is what is really lacking.
explains the chances of spell casts/effectiveness of spell casts.
I believe this is intentional considering the end motive of this game is to complete all gold pages. So, if it can be calculated or predicted, there is no challenge.
I do agree that it is frustrating when we get a foundable after a failed masterful cast but a successful great cast. But the above image should clarify why this happens!!!
Also -> depending on your level, the same "great cast" means a lot more!
I really enjoyed today’s CD. I used 13 TTD in total (which brewed in 30 minutes with master notes), with very few Exstimulo potions. Didn’t leave the house, and yet managed to complete the page (just).
I know the Knockturn Alley Sign isn’t starred, but I have enough Portkeys to walk off over the next few days.
I also caught 3 Boggart Cabinets and 3 Brown Centaurs. I hadn’t seen either in over 3 months.
@BionicManster Sorry if I misunderstood, but you said “not to mention the ones needed for five 14th or higher Fortress encounters.” Do you mean the 14th chamber, as in Forest IV? Because I got most of my Knockturn Alley signs in Ruins III and IV.
@CeruleanGirl Me too. I got most of my Knockturn Alley signs in Ruins II, III and IV. My page was complete gold before CD, but i need take to complete the task today. Very easy, i spent 8 runestones, 5 successful sings and other 3 runes go trash.
Phew! I finished* with 17% battery. Also, thanks to this forum, I cried out “swoop swoop!!” every time I spotted a swooping evil, much to the amusement (and then I think eventual dismay when I didn’t stop) of my wizards partner 🤣🤣
I had a lot of fun and was able to find traces pretty easily moving around, but also had the luck of having prestiged the page recently. I will say, if I’d been playing at home all day, I probably wouldn’t have been able to finish it.
(*the other 9 KA fragments are pending in my portkeys.)
@Banewyrm if u did not get to the rewards screen, u will not see those Fragments in ur Registry. That's coz u might be traveling fast. Play at slow pace to avoid these.
Really enjoyed the event even though i wasn't able to finish due to my reason outlined at the top of this discussion.
@hpwulola thanks, even though the event wasn't able to moved to sunday.
Did not have a problem finding or returning Swooping Evils or any of the others from the Knockturn Alley page. Got my Knockturn Alley signs easily from Wizarding Challenges and Portkeys. Will hopefully have enough time next month.
60 minutes of trace tonic and dark detectors and no swooping evil. Another player next to me gets 7. No way to complete community day this way! Why bother running it!
Sorry to hear you’ve had some bad luck. But plenty of us have been successful with it, so I respectfully disagree with your “why bother running it” comment. Also it is/was 24 hours long - plenty of time to encounter what you need. Best of luck to you.
@HPWUblue can you by chance merge this into the community day details thread so we don’t have a ton of duplicate types of threads? Thanks!
Don’t apologize! Not better or anything, just random as to how many will show up for you. Your best bet is to use TTD if stuck at home or walk around places that generally have lots of spawns if you’re able to get out and about. Hope you have more success next time.
I played for hours and still wasn't able to complete all the tasks. I wish the TTDs had been boosted for Dark Arts traces. I was only a few Hags away from being able to prestige the page again. Oh well! I also wish that the Community Days were designed to be completed in a few hours and not an entire day, but I love that the time has been extended to complete the tasks (just would like for them to be more attainable for people who have to work or can't devote an entire day to the game). It was a fun Community Day overall, but less tediousness would increase the fun.
I think traces were great, i was highly disappointed with portkeys turnout though. They were rare for me. 4 portkeys in total entire day. That is not normal with so many empty spots left. But alas, I guess that is the RNG challenge - some people did report they got 9 or 10 over the day :)
Really didn't enjoy this community day. Lack of spawns, even using TTD (which seemed to give mostly COMC and Games spawns), and the ones I did get resisted and fleed a ridiculous amount. Even Swooping Evil didnt save it for me. I didn't even let out one half hearted "swoop swoop".
I got the few traces I needed to prestige to silver then called it a day.
@MrSciGuy Nah. I worked out the maths, and even if I had played consistently all day, there was no way I'd even have come close to what I needed for gold. As it was, I played a few hours and didn't come close to completing the tasks, not that it matters because the rewards really weren't worth the effort. It would have taken double the time I spent to get there, so close to a working day.
Personally, I think that CD tasks should still be manageable within a 3 hour window. The idea of the 24 hour CD was flexibility, not the intention for people to have to play longer to achieve it.
It is also funny that you say "plenty of us have been successful with it". We clearly don't run in the same circles, because the vast majority of posts I have seen so far have been about flee rates, resist rates, mostly spawns of other families when using TTD. No ingredient spawns for TTD...
... So if you are, like myself and many others, in an area that requires TTD to get those spawns, you were absolutely screwed.
You win some, you lose some. This one was one of my least favourite CDs, but it IS only a game in the grand scheme of things.
“Personally, I think that CD tasks should still be manageable within a 3 hour window. The idea of the 24 hour CD was flexibility, not the intention for people to have to play longer to achieve it.”
^^^ yesss @Magpie31 completely agree! It feels like the initial reason for the change in CD has been a little lost.

After 13 or so hours of playing...
From start to finish (Page prestige 3 times today)

@Jeje002 Wow, that’s amazing. Great work! 😃

This was 3 minutes before midnight here in Spain.
*Accio Portkeys!!!!!!* -> Pretty please with cherry on top!

@JEJE002 That IS one huge impressive achievement!
@PauTheWise This may be a dumb question but, JIC, you realize that the Knockturn Alley signs are not traces on the map, right?

I hope others had a good day too.
Surprisingly, it’s the evil hag (Bellatrix, not the other one) that is holding me up the most!
I had run out extimulo at bronze page so after that just grip my wand tight and cast away. LoL
Also manage to store 10 portkey for later.

Thanks for this feedback, especially about Knockturn Signs. @CeruleanGirl Thanks for passing along that helpful tip!

Sorry mrsciguy. I actually work and can’t play 24 hours . I have been on game for 6-7 hours and had two come up!! You must be better than me!!!
sorry for asking question.

When person sitting next to me gets 7 spawns in last hour.
this was an issue I was sending to niantic to question. Obviously they don’t want to deal with user questions..
