I'm having the same thoughts here, as @Acumen and others, as my Professor skill tree nearing it's end (126/134 lessons done - need 56 restricted "green" spells books and 77 "red" spell books to finish it.) - so should I just sit with my over 2000 scrolls or should I go to learn Auror? (My <3 wife is Magizoologist)
And if you use 4 green books on Improved Weakness Hex then you can use another 82 scrolls as getting knowledge in Improved Weakness Hex (1/2), Duelling in the Dark(1/1), Constant Vigilance(2/3) & Practice Range(2/3)
(For me this could a realistic plan also as I have 4 "extra" green spell books on me - remaining prof lessons always require 15 green books/lesson and you get 15 green books / event)
@Jeje002 Just an update... I completed magizoologist and am now about 104 lessons into my auror tree. I sort of went with the "enjoy now" advice. After all, who knows when new things will be released, and I can always fortress loads and get more red books. It will be nice to be competent in all three professions!
You might want to add that this is a necro of a very old post. Big jumps in progress.
I would join you in the mastering of multiple professions, but restricted section books are a limiting factor. I didn't play in Beta and I didn't attend fan fest, so I only have a little over 100 to spare. Scrolls are in the tens of thousands and spell books are in the thousands, but without using Restricted Section Books, I would not make for a good Magi or Auror. As a Professor, restricted books are like gold. I'll give the game a couple more months, while waiting on new lessons, before possibly caving.
@BenTiger As a rule, we encourage digging up old posts on this forum, rather than starting new ones, as @Lucoire will tell you! This community doesn't seem to go in for the "necromancy" arguments and encourages use of the search bar. I have been slapped on the wrist a couple of times for NOT resurrecting a thread.
I was a professor first, and became a magi second. I also did not attend fanfest, so I have only just finished the restricted book part of magizoologist.
I know what you mean - I am not sure I will be a good auror. I don't know how I will handle the vulnerability, and I certainly struggle understanding the two hexes. But I like learning!
So, I have been thinking a bit more about your comments @BenTiger.
I think the multiple profession topic definitely depends on your gameplay. For me, I play with a group of about 20 people, spread across time zones. We have a mix of professions, but unevenly distributed across playing times. I love fortressing now that I can chat to friends while doing it, and have been spending a couple of hours a day in battles (hence the red books). For me, it makes sense to have different professions available so that I can slot into a team. But some people in our group are like you - little interest in playing another profession.
For me, right now, this is fun. It means that when new lessons come out, I will be behind others as I don't have reserves, but I am okay with that. Some in our group are still working on their first professions anyway. And, you know, even if they add new fortress levels, it will be manageable in group play for the next few chambers, even if I am not up to the new max.
So, basically, this style works for me, but I get that it doesn't work for everyone.
Watch this space for a regret post in a month's time 😉
I finally caved in, stopoed hoarding books & im now level 14 Professor as of 2 days ago aswel as maxed out Auror.
Now i need to learn how on earth I play as a professor before I actually unleash that in the fortress!! Lol
And like you @Magpie31 I'm wondering if it may be a total face palm moment of regret when they suddenly decide to release new lessons after all the time I held off with that. But I don't mind working towards maxing out 2nd profession, can still use in as back up if needed while I progress as Auror again.
Must remember to keep telling myself ... marathon- not a sprint.... marathon not a sprint!! 😂
Now ya'll have me really tempted. I have enough assests to max a 2nd profession. I really like the Auror play style. I'm soo on the fence about a second profession.
I'm currently an Auror and have been focusing just on that. I'm thinking it'll be a good idea for me to explore other 2 professions so that in wizarding challenges, I understand strengths and weakness of all and strategize accordingly. Reading N articles is not helping me understand the game play and coordination. I could only understand Auror perspective, so far.
My question is - what happens when we switch a profession? Before every challenge, can we switch? Are there any limits on how many times we can switch? Do I lose any of the current Auror powers if i switch temporarily before maxing out Auror?
@Magpie31 - yeh u really don't want to run into me as a professor as yet 😂 - still got quite a bit of reading up to do so i know what I can do & how- but at least il know when & who to shield, when to get proficiency up & what to do in that way from listening to you guys 😃
Being an Auror is easy- throw focus as often as can at professor first, then some to magi to get bravery, then confuse every erkling or pixie you can starting with highest stars ones downwards. Then its just get in & kick bum like we so wonderfully do 😃💪 that's what i love best about being an Auror- we punch hard.
Oh and if you are about to die & can tell the magi is ready to heal you- then die quick so they can crack on- don't cast protego out of habit & take 3 casts to die cos they don't like having to waste time waiting & not be fighting!! 😉🤣 ....oh my days 🤦🏼♀️
Sometimes my brain is with my body when I'm fortressing- other days it seems to have stayed in bed!!
One of the things you’ll soon discover (and knowing you probably **** out loud for) is that under certain circumstances you become invincible! With certain lessons completed, you’ll have maxed your defense and set yourself up for those conditional buffs.
So for example when I have a shield and proficiency up (and possibly need bravery too, can’t remember), plus the foe I’m battling has two or more hexes on it, I take no damage. I can just sit there and not even use protego. Doesn’t matter if it’s a 5 star elite werewolf!
Re invincibility for professors: you need your shield plus one more enhancement (there is no added bonus for having 3 enhancements). The foe also needs two impairments. That is enough in most cases for a maxed professor to be immune to damage. If you are fighting a foe who has defense breach (werewolf or dark wizard) then one of the impairments needs to be confusion, otherwise their defense breach allows them to still cause damage to you.
I finished all the requirements to become a professor. I have in excess of 2000 scrolls left over. I’ve decided to become an Auror now. I have realized that this will take a while since those elusive red books are extremely hard to procure once you have moved up to gold status on the challenges page. It literally takes me over 3000 points now to attain 2 red books. It’s a real grind. Is there any other way to get the red books other than battles or special events? I feel like buying the **** things.....
@AuroraKadavra you said you were level 14 professor. The invincibility lesson is Team Teaching (about 1/2 way down on the far left of the lesson plan) It costs 15 Green spell books. If you don't have it yet, one it the next BE!!!!!!! Our group calls it Hammertime--think MC Hammer--'cause you CAN'T touch this. It's also why it's important for Aurors to prep or hex puppies (and spiders if there are a lot) and Profs need to help with the spiders.
@MtPollux Thank you for your explanation! Very helpful.
@Magpie31 It was soo fun to be there when you 1st discovered invincibility!!!
Still wanting to do Auror but I feel I need to wait about another month.
I completed the auror skill tree last week (finally)
auror was/s my main profession, while simultaneously working my way through the magi and prof. Skill trees It took me forever to get all the red books I needed, so my scrolls kept piling up.
Funny enough I started the game as an auror, but switched to professor for that formidable pixies SOS task and haven't changed back. Now I'm an almost maxed out professor but I still need a ton of restricted section books. So red books and scrolls are starting to pile up and I have no use for them😂 I wish we got more RSBs beyone Brilliant events though cause I've played since launch but haven't always been able to fortress until the Knight Bus came along. I might just have to start building up my auror tree again!
@Owlx A lot of the progress was able to be made because of the changes to the registry pages, while it seems to have been a disaster for almost everybody else, I guess I updated and started playing After the damage was recognized and patched. So I was able to go through my challenges page and place images for almost every item which bumped up my RSB significantly, in addition to the books from the “we’re sorry” store pack.
I definitely enjoy playing auror most, but I’m not sure if that’s because I’ve been playing that 99.9% of the time and I’m just used to it or if it really is my favorite, I tried playing as professor the other day and I felt so weak when I couldn’t defeat foes with one hit! (Except the high level spiders, WW and erklings)
Once the knight bus opened up and I was finally able to play with other players I realized that the way I instinctually work my way through fortresses is more suited to playing as an auror.
now that I’m thinking about it though, I’m not sure if I’ve ever played as the other professions on the map (non-fortress play)
Also on a sidenote I have a question for all the magi out there: what is your strategy when playing fortresses with a team?
Spiders are usually the foes that can take half my stamina with one hit and so during team battles I avoid spiders at all costs, especially if there’s a magic playing, my expectations are that they would be responsible for any spider foes.
@Cassasauresrex I'm not a magi, but I definitely agree with you. One of the cornerstones of group fortress play is that each wizard focuses on foes against whom they're proficient. The only reason to stray from that is if the enemy selection is lopsided. On a board full of spiders it's not fair to leave them all for the 1 magi, everyone else is going to have to wade in and try to help.
@Cassasauresrex What @MtPollux said is usually the case. The main situation in which I would expect to see other professions take on Acromantulas in the higher chambers, is if there’s too many and the board is full of them . Usually in such a case the strategy I go with (particularly if I’m the only Magizoologist) is half hit and leave some, so if any Aurors take them on, then at least their extra defence kicks in and helps.
Oh for sure, if it’s all spiders and werewolves and erklings I just keep powering through as fast as I can.
but there’s been a few times I played where I’m the only auror with some professors or magi and the last foe, or 2, left are one of the previously mentioned and I’ve already distributed the appropriate hexes and still nobody is taking action! Drives me crazy

Wise words @Mellyrn about doing what you can to enjoy now!

I did a small study and found out you can learn a lot in Auror three with Scrolls - 1167 scrolls can be used without using red or green books. (https://gamepress.gg/wizardsunite/reference/auror-skill-tree#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 ) This sure would get one a good way into learning to become an Auror...

@Dragons1111 You don't lose any progress and you can switch as often as you like. But you can't change whilst in the towet (at the moment).

@AuroraKadavra You must be fortressing with a really bad tempered, grumpy magi, by the sounds of it! 😂😂
@AuroraKadavra wow you got me there.
always got steamy when saw almost dead auror. its like "just die already, what took it so long"
LoL
Yay @AuroraKadavra! Welcome to the professors! 🥳

Oooh that's really awesome helo there @MrSciGuy and @MtPollux ! Thankyou!!
I'm gonna live testing the new profession out and the invincible thing will be epic!
Il definitely be taking you up on that offer of some tutoring MrSci, cheers!!
@Kodokmag that's brilliant! 😂 thanks for the comment which shows I'm not the only Auror who has made that mistake!
It's not so great for you unfortunately being the Magi but has made me feel a bit better that others gave done the same lol 🤦🏼♀️

@Cassasauresrex that is impressive progress on 3 professions! Mastered Auror the level 13 professor and a level 10 magi.
Which profession do you enjoy pkaying the most?
