There is no transaction history only snapshot / point in time backup so recovery options are very limited. Which is interesting in its own right as no tracking data is persisted
Let's not even get started on the security/botting implications.
Is it not possible to just create a schedule to fix everyone's items? While it would take a considerable amount of time,is that not a good and actual fix? I am fortunate however to know exactly which items I need to be placed that have lost its green placed star.
@hpwulola I need to know if these special events are going to open to everyone or just the affected players. We know you can limit events to specific people, for example, last year’s fan fest was only open to people who bought tickets.
I need to know ASAP because if it is open to affected players, I might stick around. If you open up to everyone, I’m out of here.
@hpwulola A few of us have asked for the process details for in app purchase refunds given the goods we paid for have been taken away and that is not arguable. Is this something you can answer directly or post a link to the right section?
@BrokeMyWand I doubt that her superiors would let her answer that question. It is easier to perform a google search for your answer. Make sure to include your phone platform in the search (Android or IOS).
@Kler44 - There is no record of each transaction as it occurred, there is only the present point in time and any backup will only hold data for the point in time it was taken
Many transactions ie changes to the database will have taken place between backups
As an analogy, imagine a selfie taken 2 weeks ago and another taken today, but nothing in between. Now imagine trying to figure out what clothing you wore every day in between just from the two selfies. It’s not an exact analogy but you get the point
Needless to say, the database is not structured as I would insist to hold full history for a finite period - disk is cheap particularly on cloud. There is also a nasty but pervasive education gap prevalent with many less experienced developers who think the database is just a dumb store and not important
Well guess what... when repeat problems happen as we have recently experienced, who are you going to call to fix it?
Because the design is flawed and someone should have caught it particularly after the first occurrence
Seriously, anyone that has ever administered a database could fix this. Just query the backup data and compare it to the current data. If an earned green star is missing, add it to the running database.
Hi, we will be adding a complimentary pack to Diagon Alley. I'll have details of the contents tomorrow. Thank you for all your feedback and suggestions. We have determined that modifying players' registries can have unintentional negative effects and we are choosing not to take this risk.
I, like many others on here have been affected by both 'fixes'. I really do feel sad right now. I have played this game from the start and I really do wish to continue playing. I hope that the loss of my progress lessens but I do get a pang of sadness and frustration each time I access my registry. I really wish there was a way for you to help us. :( I wish I hadn't been on the Knight bus as the 2nd fix hit my game hard.
@hpwulola So everyone gets the gift? People who benefitted/saw zero losses will get exactly the same as those of us who lost months of play? This would be a terrible decision.
Sure. Software development is an uncontrollable random process. Better not take any risk.
I recommend to forget the complimentary pack. It would never calm upset affected players and probably annoy a lot of unaffected players who don't want to be pushed. A clear lose-lose situation.
To add, if you can create a save point @hpwulola , and actually allow informed testing on certain accounts (force downtime on the account after obtaining consent to use their account for such a purpose), I'd bet you'd have quite a few people actually willing to take that option.
@hpwulola I want to thank you for your commitment to communicating about this. I am glad the team is choosing to not risk further losses. I hope this allows the team to move on and work on other bugs and better ideas for the future.
@rocketj , its because some people were able to max out their professions because the random fix worked for them. Im stuck at M13, because nothing happened on either fix for me. Rewarding everyone equally right now doesn't level the playing field for those who still have lost their fragments because of Niantic's incompetence.
There is a field to level when you lost rare foundables, star fragments, challenge xp, etc. Some people actually did care about losing out on time, energy, effort, money... @rocketj
@rocketj May I ask why you are so intent on asking us to move on for your benefit? Why would it affect you to not receive anything while others who lost time and tangible money got something to partially make up for their loss? I know your intentions are probably in the right place but perhaps stop commenting if you are cool with whatever the outcome is
I dont get why you can't just run the last "fix" script again so that those of us that were playing the game when the fix was pushed can have a chance at getting our green stars back. At this point I don't even care about the fragments lost with the 2.13 update. The lost green stars is a much bigger deal to me. Months of progress, thousands of energy, runestones, potions, etc. Another complimentary pack is just a slap in the face tbh.
Made another thread to voice disgust of this solution... and it was deleted within minutes of the post. Wow. @HPWUTeam can try to silence concerns about their lack of addressing the actual issue, but they can't listen to the concerns and come up with an actual solution that provides reparations for our losses.
Everyone who is disgusted with their lack of a solution, please go in to your respective app store and voice your concern as a poor rating. They can't silence your ratings in the app stores.
I saw the post @BenTiger , and support you. It's really a shame that their stance seems to be give everyone something as opposed to fix what was actually broken. Niantic is just trying to bail water out of a sinking ship with a cup at this point.
Do any of you know that 100% of the players got all of their fragments adjusted properly (that everyone is saying shouldn’t get a make good package)? I have heard of people getting part of their registries “fixed” but I haven’t read where anyone’s accounts worked out like they were supposed to. But perhaps I missed it. I lost a lot of fragments and completed pages and then got challenge fragments that I know I didn’t have but They don’t balance out.
So I am very curious to hear from people who everything worked out perfectly for in both of the fragment fiasco’s.
The next round of indignant posts has begun from the same group of people protesting any sort of apology pack that goes to anyone who wasn't as badly hit as they were.
What has happened to the game over the past month sucks, no question. The fact that the losses have hit different people differently is frustrating. I don't think that anyone is actually happy about how things have gone. Everyone will have to make a choice to continue playing or not. If it's not fun for you any more, then don't do it. The fact that someone else may get a free gift has zero impact on your progression in the game, but if that's enough to make you quit then that is your choice. All the complaining you can muster isn't going to change what happens.
Before anyone tells me I don't get to have an opinion, I lost most of my stars and have already been prevented from prestiging multiple pages as a result. I will ultimately make my own decision to keep playing or not. There's no need for me to try to convince others to follow me.

@SaylerA I would recommend you read @OriginalCaruso’s comment just above yours. And all others regarding backups. Not that simple.
@MrSciGuy You do not need every transaction for fixing the green star issue. A recent backup is sufficient as @SaylerA pointed out. Simple enough.

Thankfully for everyone, it’s not a race. There’s no playing field to level @MrMasterMiltank

I'll have confirmation of the make-good content tomorrow morning and will share the details then, thanks!
I'd assume the same....Its probably him/her flagging all the responses that will prevent everyone from getting the benefit.
Yay another free pack... /sarcasm

This is now class action worthy.
we begged, pleaded, and warned you.
caveat emptor
