How to contact Niantic to add more Inns, Fortresses and greenhouses.

I live just in a suburb and while the downtown area of my city is packed with inns and greenhouses, the other areas of town are bare. They are missing so many opportunities and I hope there will be an option for players to directly request specific areas to Niantic to add them! It would be nice, and maybe would even it out a little!

Due to the rules on what can be considered to become a POI and NIA's requirement that all of their games be highly POI-centric, this issue is unlikely to ever improve for you or many others.

During ingress, Niantic allowed submissions. They haven't allowed that in a while and I wish they would. For Pokemon Go and this game, they're simply recycling whatever was submitted years ago through Ingress.

The POI are from the same dataset that Niantic's other games are based on.

In general, POI are places of:

    • historic (castles, statues, war memorials),
    • educational (libraries, nature-information boards, museums),
    • artistic (murals, statues, theater & opera houses, art galleries)
    • recreational / social (parks, playgrounds, fountains, etc)

    value.

Economic value on its own does NOT make a good POI and K12 Schools are EXPLICITY blacklisted.

And POI must be HUMAN CREATIONS... an ancient tree is not POI worthy.

And all POI require "safe pedestrian access" and need to be open to at least a certain number of people (POI on private single-family residential property are also a no-go). POI that may interfere with emergency services (obviously) are also blacklisted.

Also, keep in mind that the overwhelming number of POI aren't created by algorithms, they have been submitted by players (originally Ingress-players only, recently Pokemon-Players have joined) and have been curated by players (Ingress Players only, google "OPR" for more info) - to ensure a certain quality of POI.

There have been instances of "sponsored POI" in the past that avoided that process but these were usually part of big partnerships (examples of these are "AXA", "SOFTBANK", "CIRCLE-K", "MUFG", which as part of their sponsorship had an item in ingress named after them and all their outlets turned into POI)

To submit new POI, you have to be Ingress Level 10+ OR PokemonGo Level 40.

To join the POI curation program, you need to be Ingress Level 12+.

Niantic has reworked the submission-system for POI and created a system by which players can curate the submitted POI. So, POI submissions are BACK.

To submit new POI, you need to be Level 10 in Ingress OR Level 40 in Pokemon Go.

To join the POI curation system (named "OPR", short for "Operation Portal Recon"), you need to be Level 12 in Ingress AND you need to have passed a test to show that you understand what a "quality POI" is.

@Lucoire, how would I find someone who plays Ingress so they can submit more POI's in my area then? Do they have to live in my city also? I'm sorry, I don't know much about that, I just thought it would be a good option!

@contrerazmrae The Ingress app has an ingame-chat that is filtered by distance. So the best way to reach other players is through that app. Just look in your App-Store for "Ingress Prime" - it has a white logo on a purple background.

As "submitting" can only be done in a 2km radius, other players would need to be in your city. But I wouldn't worry about that, there are Players all over the world.

To make submitting POI easier for them, just look around your suburb for places of historic value, artistic creations (like statues and murals, etc).

If you want to further help prepare the POI-Creation,

    • make both a submission foto (that'll be used ingame) as well as a
    • photo of the area around it (so the people reviewing the submission can see whether criteria like "safe pedestrian access" or "location accuracy" are met).
    • Additionally, a short description (maybe 1-2 sentences) about the Submission are needed (like the artist of a mural, the person depicted by a statue, etc)
