The game was fun. I miss it. I want it to be fun again.
Right now, playing feels pointless. I'm re-earning things I already had, or would already have. There is no joy or sense of accomplishment. The game is effectively on hold, in the middle of a Brilliant Event, while I wait for a resolution. They promised we wouldn't lose fragments. I'm still hopeful they are working on keeping that promise.
I never participate in forums, but I feel that I needed to add my two cents for what it’s worth.
I too have been playing from Day 1 (I am a rural player), I too prestiged and placed fragments before the notification to not prestige and place went out.
I chose to continue playing. As I work through what the actual changes were, I find that I like them. In fact, just a day or two before the update I was thinking how nice it would be to be able to repeatedly place images. I certainly like the 1000xp when I repeatedly place a BE foundable, I like the extra family xp I get when I place a family foundable as it is a runestone generator, and I really like the 1200 challenge xp (gold page) when I place a challenge foundable.
I had some pages prestige with the update, and some that did not. I also lost some fragments, but I also gained some (and some especially rare ones at that). For example, on my Knockturn Alley page I was still on the standard frame, I only had 6 Swooping Evil (so you can imagine how often it spawned for me), and 9 Knockturn Alley signs. When the update hit, my page got prestiged to bronze, meaning I was given 5 Swooping Evil, and 6 Knockturn Alley signs in terms of the old rates. So, my point is that people are not computing what they may have gained as well as the losses. You also need to calculate the fragments required to prestige the page to whatever you ended at, how many runestones you gained for max fragment bonuses, etc, etc.
As for the people looking for a timeline, it is clearly stated in @hpwulola’s post that they would come up with a plan this week. Give them that. There really isn’t much for them to say until then. So you will all have to be patient.
A rollback is not a solution, and would potentially cause a lot more issues than the initial update did, and impact a far broader range of people.
For the people who blessed us with their venomous tantrums, this is not a place for that. Please grow up.
@BusStopToyShop, as a business owner myself, I would never condone my customers taking their anger and frustration out on my employees. You, as an owner, are at a different level, as am I. In fact, customers who treated my employees disrespectfully often got a very different result than what they were looking for...
I like to think that this update is part of a bigger update going forward (Pogo has changed substantially from when it was first released). People are looking for more sos tasks, more lesson plans, etc., etc. It doesn’t necessarily make it easier for new players, for example under the old version you needed 91 fragments total to reach gold for a low level foundable, now you need 133 fragments. They could potentially adjust the spawn rates for different player levels, catch difficulty (anyone seem to have a lot more departing foundables the last couple of days?), the levels at which a player gains access to the fortress to change the level of gameplay.
I look forward to continuing to play and see where all these changes end up. So far so good.
@Elaeus Thank you for definitively verifying this behavior. It is as I feared, and I lost challenge fragments to this already. I was hoping to find the last Ministry Crest and Magical Creatures Emblems I needed to prestige those pages, so I gambled in Forest II. Of course, I unluckily got the Law Enforcement and Transportation symbols I had extra of, and lost the surplus fragments.
For the "Place Image" button on the results screen, you can ignore it on Android. Just tap your phone's back button and it will take you back to the map. Of all the annoying and poorly thought out changes this week, this one at least has an easy workaround.
I have no idea what tapping an iPhone's button will do. I can never guess.
@BabaYugga We are aware that in one sense we have "gained" in that many of our pages have been prestiged once via this update, however the game designers wanted us to rollover fragments, planned to rollover fragments, and indeed many people were able to rollover fragments and gain very much more (2 or 3 event frame prestiges)
A full rollback for everyone is a real solution - yes more people might lose the last 4 days activity, but that is still far less than the equivalent of 6 months play that those who got caught by the bugs have lost, unfairly and in an unequal manner. Those who lost most are also the most active players. Also if the game designers had acted more quickly, they could have dramatically reduced the needed rollback.
I for one would not hesitate 1 second if offered an opt-in rollback to the state before the update, losing all that I have done in the last 4 days - I would gain 50x as much as I would lose.
While I understand the need for a little time to decide on a plan, all the mods have been very absent from this thread to give us an update, even if it's only a "we haven't forgotten you and are still looking at options to rectify our mistake". All I've seen today is full speed ahead on announcing next Saturday's CD
I’m glad you mentioned POGO. How would it feel if all your Pokémon over 3000 CP and all of your shinies were deleted by a bug, but people who play much less than you got to keep all theirs due to not playing that day? And then a bunch of people on the forum tell you to get over it because you can just go catch more. This is exactly like that. Hundreds of hours, dollars and sense of accomplishment GONE.
Hi everyone! We appreciate your passion for this game and recognize how this feature has impacted your gameplay experience. I have read all of the comments here and have shared a summary of this feedback and sentiment to my team. We apologize for this issue and appreciate your patience as we work to resolve it. The team is discussing next steps to put together a resolution to make up for this. We know there are many people who prestige their pages before we discovered the bug and we are keeping this in mind as we develop a resolution plan. We will have more to share about this in the next few days, thank you for your patience.
A few of you asked for a breakdown of how this feature update works. Wizards Unite Hub has put together a great explanation of the changes to the Registry and Fragment counts:
I can’t check my Registry since the update. When I click on the Registry it says “connection lost. Check your wi-fi or mobile connection” and the app freezes. I have deleted and re-Installed the app several times. Still happens.
The world as we know it is falling apart around us and thousands of people are dying daily and this is what we choose to spread all this hate and vitriol about daily? Seriously? The human race is in trouble if this is how certain members of that human race are behaving.
Did the update go haywire? YES!! Did we all loose hundreds of foundables? YES!! Is the team working on some kind of fix/appeasement? YES!!
I myself am a day one daily player and lost hundreds of items. But I am talking to people (for work) that lost family members to Covid or are recovering from Covid. Put some perspective on things people and quit acting like entitled, spoiled, selfish people. For God’s sake people are dying daily from this awful pandemic which has forced us to live a life we never thought was possible. The HPWU team has done a pretty good job of allowing us to play completely from our homes so cut them some slack and let them do their jobs and resolve this.
I never thought I would be ashamed of my fellow HPWU players but some of you are really questioning humanity right now. Banning petitions, name calling, hatred over a FREE game.
@hpwulola - i agree with @DadDeDav and appreciate your apology on behalf of HPWU ... it wouldn’t hurt to put the apology in-game, since not every player comes to this forum ... and i hope an effective resolution that truly fixes and restores is forthcoming (by the way, extra gift packs of gold coins, potions, spell energy, etc are NOT fair compensation for the rare foundable fragments lost or for the trust that HPWU/Niamtic has now thrown away).
Here is how this update should have been approached:
Step 1 - Design the system to allow rollover with existing fragment requirements and verify the rollover system worked in testing.
Step 2 - Inform the Community of the upcoming system and give a breakdown of how the system will work to Influencers like WU Hub and the YouTubers. Allow the Community time to respond.
Step 3 - Implement the rollover system live and check for problems. Allow time for the system to gel and the Community to adopt.
Step 4 - Design the new standardized fragment system and verify it works in testing.
Step 5 - Inform the Community of the upcoming changes and work with Influencer network to guage the Community responce.
Step 6 - Modify the fragment standards to best meet the desires of the Community and game balance.
Step 7 - Implement the system live and check for problems. Allow time for the system to gel and the Community to adopt.
Step 8 - Make any followup adjustments.
Waterfall updates where multiple overlapping systems are changed at the same time is a HORRIBLE implementation plan. You build from the foundation up. If the foundation is faulty, the structure will fail.
Please fix the issue with the Knight bus. When I click on a tower chamber it takes almost a minute before it lets me 8n to the challenge. Game play is less enjoyable.
@hpwulola So basically the game is like this right now:
We lost alot of fragments . And we want our fragments back. We do not dare to play now in case its going to mess it even more up and you cant fix it.
Knight bus is bugged , drives people nuts..
.. and your solution..
... Lets keep the scheduled comunity day the 16 and lets run the Knight buss tasks!
Come one. Its the 12th. its gone WAY TO MUCH time since this happend.
Do as other games do.
Take down the servers, roll back the patch. fix the patch, and roll it out again. Im sure you can manage to do that now, you should have done it days ago. And then they also do come with a complimentary gift due to the delay.
But if you cant do that easy solution - well, start with cancelling the CD!
@UagadouWeDo I am on Android and I use the back button a lot on this game but no, I've tried it since I saw a problem, on my side of the screen, it doesn't work :(.
Thanks for the update @hpwulola but honestly it's way too slow, just shut down the game, rollback and fix this. BE event is really not a priority, I am pretty sure cancelling it and running it later won't matter to anyone as long as the update works as intended for everyone. It's outdated anyway for the update due to the "place image" bug and the family points loss when you return it.
@BabaYugga problem is progress isn't counted in frames, it's counted in number of foundables. There are some frames I couldn't upgrade because I was close to putting the image by 1 and now I need like 5 more but I don't care, my foundables are still here and not reset to 0. I will find the missing ones, I always end up finding new stuff, that's what the game is about.
Others on the other hand : not so lucky. What's the point of returning 100's of Fred and Georges if we lose everything 2 days later? I don't care about farming xp, honestly, after level 30 it means nothing in this game, you still need potent for emergencies and high, and commons still has not more than 75% capture at level 44 due to ridiculous catch rates.
Basically the game tells you that you need to spend more time on it to get what you already had and some people don't. That's nonsense.
hpwulola - thank you, that's a vastly more helpful post and the apology is truly appreciated.
I'd ask though that you ask the team to read all the feedback for themselves, both here and on other social networks, rather than just a summary, before they reach any conclusions.
I'd also love more regular updates. Even if it's a daily "the team are still working away, making progress" kinda update, it'll help us feel better.
Agree with some other posts. Please delay Community Day if you're not going to have your resolution in place before then.
I've got one more point to make, which I'll do shortly, but then I'm going to shut my face until I hear what resolutions you come up with.
I've seen the expression, "It's just a game," a few times in this thread.
I'm going to use an example from my background in the hobby gaming industry, to talk about this, but I could use any game or sport to reach the same conclusion.
During lockdown, there's been a lot of focus on MtG Arena. For those that don't know about it, it's the online portal for playing Magic the Gathering digitally, rather than with physical cards. Virtually every MtG player is using it right now.
So on our store's MtG Group Chat the other day, there was a discussion about what everyone's rank on Arena was. Around half the players couldn't have cared less. Some didn't even know. They're just logging on, playing some games for fun, then logging off again. And that's brilliant - they're enjoying their hobby their way.
The other half though. The rank they've achieved is the most important thing in their world right now. Hundreds of hours, and a whole lot of money, have been sunk into chasing those platinum, diamond and mythic ranks.
And that's true with any successful game (or sport)
A casual Warhammer player and a tournament level player have entirely different mindsets.
The Pokemon Trading Card Game as played in school playgrounds, is entirely different to the thousands of hours that need sunk into the game to play it well at a competitive level.
Dungeons & Dragons has casual fun players, and players who put inordinate amounts of research into making characters as powerful as possible, to be as successful as they can be.
In sport, people kicking a ball about in a park have an entirely different mindset to those who want to make it as a professional soccer player.
I've got a few friends who enjoy the casual exercise of cycling - a ride in the countryside on a sunny day. But I've also got a couple of friends with bikes worth more than my car, who spend hundreds of hours on the road, and hook themselves up to machines in their spare time, to see how far they can push themselves physically.
And it's always incredibly difficult for those two groups of people, with those two different mindsets, to understand where the other group is coming from.
But any successful game (or sport), including all those examples above and thousands more, has figured out that both those groups need to be involved for the game to flourish. If either the casual or competitive halves of the participants walk away, then the game dies.
Going back to my first example. I can only imagine what would happen if right now MtG announced that you now only needed to win a handful of games to reach a mythic rank.
Asking us not to post on "the topic" will not help. We want to know what is going to happen for restitution of standing. HPWULOLA has stopped responding on the proper topic thread.
Niantic, what proportion of HPWU players were affected? It was a small window, but those affected were your most faithful players. This injury has lessened my play time, and significantly plugged any desire to purchase resources in game. Consider that last statement. If enough players repeat that, would you listen?
@hpwulola thank you and the team. I have no doubt you and the team are working hard to help improve the game and fix the issues.
@ClairabusGryff very well said! Thank you for sharing your views, which reflect mine.
I understand the frustration of some players but I would like to share my own experience with the game in those terrible times.
I've been extremely anxious and sad and horrified with all the deaths, fear, and damage this pandemic is causing. The suffering is immense and it is all around us: next door, in our families, and around the world. There's no diminishing that horror.
There is, however, a few moments of relief. Relief we all need to stay sane.
Playing this game, for me, is a moment of relief. And I can only be thankful for that.
Since the game changed to help us continue playing, I have enjoyed features I could not enjoy before.
Yes, I lost foundables in the last update. I did prestige the pages before the update. But I got a lot o runestones. So I didn't really feel it as a loss. Now I can also place again foundables that I have already placed, which is something I had asked from the developers before.
I am thrilled with the Knight Bus. I can't thank you enough for this new feature. I love it, even with the bugs (that I'm sure will be fixed at some point). Now I can play with other players, something that was impossible for me before! It's wonderful to be able to play with other people even if they don't know the best strategies of group battling - I am learning that too! So, I am so very grateful for the Knight Bus!
The last community game gave away a lot of gold coins! I collected enough of them to expand my vaults. That was such an awesome surprise. The pandemic has reduced my income to next to nothing, so I can't purchase anything that is not essential. So the extra gold coins helped a lot. Now I have more spell energy to battle when I hit the fortress with the Knight Bus. Thank you!
So, I'm glad the game exists and is taking into account our needs, our demands, our frustrations. I just wanted to say I'm happy with it. It's been a fantastic distraction during this difficult time.
Thank you to all players that keep the game going.
Thank you to the moderators for their attention and patience.
Thank you developers for keeping the game going even with all the problems this pandemic is causing and for adjusting the game to allow us the best possible experience.
Well said @EowynRio ! Thank you. I too prestiged everything before we were told not to. So I lost a lot. But I am trying to focus on the positive here. This game and the friends I have made keep me sane.
It has been several days since we stopped our progress in the game, after almost a year investing time and money.
I do not understand how the game did not report in any official source and allowed to prestige without downloading the latest update, nor how they did not make a manual or mini-guide to explain how it was reputed correctly, when constantly they are throwing to the game little signs of events and things without importance compared to this.
The issue is that several days have passed, and this Niantic error has removed from our record incontratus, pages that should be in full gold are in silver just started, in the same way, we have lost family rank, xp, runes and red books, I do not understand how to this day they have not yet returned our original progress, since behind it we have invested a lot of time, captures in days of cold, rain or heat, taking moments from where we could not play, trips and trips to specific areas where we could find incontratus, money invested in the game, I do not want any kind of reward as I have been able to read around there, I just want my registration as I had it, nor do I want to be given anything, but neither have it stolen.
Here in my community there are a lot of people upset with the issue, and at a player level, the greater the harm, a large part of my community is very clear that if they do not give us back our progress they will stop playing, because who does not tell you that within a year they will do the same to you again.
Thank you @hpwulola. I know it must not be easy times right now, but I do appreciate to know you are working on this issue, that you haven’t forgotten. I’m looking forward with the solution you guys come up with.
I am well aware of what is happening in the world. I have not forgotten. And I don’t want to be constantly reminded of it. It is unavoidable now as I am back to work, in a field where I meet lot of people, and live in constant fear. This game was, and is, the saviour of my mental health. It is my means of escaping the constant feed of news and fear being spread. The past two months that I was not at working because of a closing, gave me too much time, and WU filled my hours when I wasn’t doing something else go occupy my mind. So this badly implemented change that ruined my safe-haven, is a good reason to cry out and demand a fix.
There are some who have called out the name-calling towards the WU team. I’m calling you out with the name-calling. In the future, please refrain doing so. It accomplishes nothing, and alienates many more of the players in this community from
reaching out to the others. Sure, some complainers have been downright rude, and that should be adressed, but don’t lump the rest of us with them.
We can’t change what is happening in the world, that is beyond our control. But we, the players who are vocal about change/update gone wrong, can maybe influence in small ways to the changes in the game, and to the future of WU and how things are handled after this.
So, don’t belittle us. We know what has been done in the past months in the game, and what has been brought to all of us to make playing easier. And I am grateful for that. The changes made in a very short time have been a massive help to majority of the players, and I can only admire what has been done.
They are working on it, so thanks for that. I appreciate it, truly. It means I can look forward to the future in WU, but I will be more careful when new updates come.
For now, I will leave these forums. Over the past few days I have noticed that we are not wanted here. It’s funny really, how there are some saying this is a community, yet they are not acting like it. Hostility is most I see, and that is a shame.
I have been playing daily since a couple of days after the initial launch and rarely play ingress or pokemon go anymore.
I prestiged before the warning and the 2.13 update and would like the lost fragments back.
i would be ok with a rollback or preferably any other way (except over time) to get those fragments back and be able to prestige to where I should have been able to if I had done so after the bug fix.
I dont’t see a compensation in the form of potions, coins, runestones and energy as fair. I would rather play this game to advance in the game rather than having to play to get back to where I should already be.
changing the fragment requirements is a good idea but needs to be applied te everyone in a fair way. If this can’t be done, I see a rollback as the only viable option.

#HPWULOLA Thank you very much for whatever you guys can do. I prestiged before the messaging went out.
It is comforting to know that you guys care and are working on a solution behind the scenes.
It is greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
You hit the nail on the head @ClairabusGryff! All of that! 💯
@hpwulola I really appreciate your message and apology. I look forward to the resolution. Thank you so much.
Despite what some others have said, I for one think an apology pack consisting of coins, potions, and energy would be a nice start.

But that's what just happened to Wizards Unite.
The BE event is over in a few hours.
Take the game down, fix it as intended, return the fragments and the knight buss..
Im sure everyone surives some downtime - instead of a game that is not playable .
Its the second Niantic game thats been f*cked over the last 7-10 days. You are not increasing your playerbase this way.
@ClairabusGryff
@hpwulola , Thanks for the response.
If this can’t be done, I see a rollback as the only viable option.
by the way, I love the knight bus
Thanks
