@RexHav0c this is the moment for a step backward for a couple steps forward. Anything short of a complete recovery of what people lost will hurt them quite a bit.
Also, what happens with shiny foundables? If I click them, they come back to 0... Do I have to retrieve them again to give prestige to the entire page? Or do they get counted so that when prestige does not start with 0?
Another matter: from rank 100 in challenges, why do I need 500 extra exp points?
Another bug. Just archieve the last fragment of Nick in the brilliant event mission, put his image and boom! 0/5
Okay, I think I am just not really understanding something here. So many people are upset over losing foundables that I must not be getting it. It seems to me that you are not losing foundable fragments, you are just not getting anything extra from them, which obviously would be nice, but doesn’t seem to me to be a deal breaker. I am not trying to negate anyone else’s frustration over the situation, I am truly just trying to figure out what it is I am not seeing. Maybe I am not understanding how it is supposed to work vs. how it actually worked?
In any event, I’m sorry for those of you who are upset by this. I hope they can fix it for you but if they can’t, I hope you don’t quit the game. A lot of you are very helpful and interesting here in the forums and I would be sad to see you go.
I had 12 quidditch pitch stands (the total needed used to be 15), which I'd got by bashing away doing wizarding challenges for a fair while. Then when I prestiged the page (Which needed 7 pitch stands to do so) I lost those 5 extra fragments which I'd already got.
That's the only page I've touched so far, but others who've done it to everything are much worse off :(
@CeruleanGirl that's not what I'm upset about. It's the lowering of the required counts, making the game far too easy that I have an issue with.
I'm paraphrasing an excellent tweet I saw here - sorry don't have my phone to give it the proper credit: Imagine you bought a hugely expensive and complex 10000 piece jigsaw, and you were enjoying gradually completing it piece by piece. And then you woke up one morning and it was now a 4 piece jigsaw designed for two-year-olds.
So yeah, I spent hundreds of hours of my life doing things like completing the gold pages on books and jokes, catching 200 doxies - dozens of other examples. And I could look on them with satisfaction, because there wasn't a massive number of people who had managed to achieve those things. And now it's easy. Far too easy.
I get that games need to gradually get easier, to allow newcomers the chance to catch up. In Pokemon Go, it's been handled pretty well - rare Pokemon gradually get easier to find. Other ways to gain XP emerge. It's got easier for newcomers to catch up, little by little.
This update to Wizards Unite has made the game incredibly easy and unchallenging in one swift step, and torn up all those hundreds of hours I put in and spat them back out. I've spent a large proportion of my free time this last year playing. Right now I feel like that's time absolutely wasted. I feel physically sick and I'm struggling to control my anger.
@CeruleanGirl It was designed so that leftover fragments would be used in further pages. Problem is, before the patch, it was bugged and leftover fragments would not roll over to the next page. There was no message whatsoever. Only some comment an hour later or so in the forum. Some people only got the patch the next day. Some people never saw any alert message not to prestige. Thus, series of foundables collected, farmed for, payed for, worked for, were just gone, poof. With no alert, no message, nothing. Many here spent a lot to get to higher prestiges, many more spent a lot of useful time collecting thing in hopes of completing that one missing foundable. Then suddenly it's all gone.
Furthermore, after the patch/update many fragments were simply gone from people's collections.
I'm all for changing the counts in some pages, sure, never understood why one needs 4 of the easiest foundable and 15 of the emergency one. But to throw away people's investment out of the window due to no patch testing prior to release, and taking forever to figure out if they rollback or not (which is an obvious choice for such a flop of a patch), this just spells disaster for the future of the game.
The worst part is that the players most affected by the bug are the ones that invested a LOT in the game.
I think part of the sense of injustice is that active players are more likely to have been hit by this, and to have lost a larger amount of time and money chasing fragments that they've now lost but that, critically, other people haven't!
Some players will get all the benefits of the intended change whereas others, often some of those most invested in the game have lost it all and, cynically, I for one am expecting that the only resolution will be some kind of, "Sorry, we messed up, have 5 red spell books and a few potions." apology offer that will go out to everyone in the game, not even just those hit by the bug.
Yes, we're not competing with others, but if you see someone giving some people great things while leaving you in the lurch then it's only human nature to resent that. I really, really hope that I'm wrong and that they're trying to find a fix for those affected rather than just a fix so it works for people going forward, but the lack of any reassurance to that degree makes me fear that it will just be some kind of universal apology package that doesn't come close to addressing the hours of their lives that people put into chasing those fragments.
I have no gripes or issues with the new update whatsoever. Having lots of fun. Love embracing changes and practicing resiliency rather than being stiff and miserable and expecting things to be how I want it to be. This is a game. Not life OR death. Deepest gratitude to the developers. Cheers.
@SageWyze the change itself is not the biggest issue atm. From your wording I presume you didn't prestige before the fix rolled out, and thus do not know where the actual problem lies at. People that did it WHILE it was B U G G E D, and lost their stuff, due to no patch testing and horrible communication.
@SageWyze Hi, glad you are having fun. You are right, this is a game and not life or death. It is a game who depends on revenue from players like me. So if I am "being stiff and miserable", they are not getting paid. And if they are not getting paid, the game dies.
But what happens when we click on shimmering traces (I'm seeing them when I return a trace and get the "place image" button) and the number goes from 5/5 or 15/15 to 0/5 or 0/15? Does that mean we've lost our fragments, or is that normal now and we don't "lose" those fragments, and will be able to prestige the page as normal once all foundables have been found? It just happened a few minutes ago for me, so I want to believe that this is part of the fix but I'm afraid to click on things and lose stuff. Thanks!
@hpwulola Why is there this seeming reluctance by WU to inform their players of how this system is supposed to work?
If prior to the new system I have 30/33 of a foundable and under the new system only 20 fragments are required, what happens to my extra 10 fragments? When I place the image, do they roll into a fragment count? What happens if I am on Silver and I click a shimmering image, do I lose all of the fragments as they convert to family xp? And if so, why is the system setup to allow that?
We have questions, when is the WU staff going to provide answers?
@hpwulola It seems that I’ve been hit twice on this. First, I prestiged all my regular registry pages and lost a lot of High value fragments (dumbledore, Harry, hermione, etc). I didn’t prestige my challenge pages, after seeing the announcement and recommendations on here. After the update, it was still recommended to not prestige. But I guess I should have stopped playing altogether because after playing fortresses, any fragments I was awarded wiped out all the extras I previously had.
I also dislike the part of the update that lowers the needed fragments. It has made the game easy and boring. I am not opposed to the other part of the update (aside from losing a whole lot of work).
I think this all has made my decision to stop playing the game a lot easier. Approaching level 50, I guess it’s probably good to get back to better priorities.
@Archifishal I’ve seen other such examples and I see how that would be annoying. However, under the old gameplay, fragments did not carry over to the next prestige page, if you needed 15 of something and got 20 before you were able to prestige the page, those extra 5 did not go on the next page. So, it could also be seen as they gave you the 3 pieces you were missing. Like I’ve said before, yes it’s annoying, but I think it’s the unfairness of it that is the real problem.
In that vein, @Hidrazona and @FireNightingale talking about the fact that the warning coming too late for many people makes it unfair to those who are not getting the benefit of those fragments carrying over makes more sense to me. I hadn’t thought about it like that. I didn’t prestige my pages before the warning simply because I was too busy. I opened the game and and saw all of those alerts and decided to do it later when I could sit down and do it all at once. So, basically I just got lucky. That is definitely unfair to those who were simply excited and took care of it immediately.
@BusStopToyShop I do agree with you for the most part. I think they’ve made it far too easy. I think the idea of standard fragment counts is a good one, but it’s something that should have been done from the start, and not so long after people started playing. I also have put a lot of time and money into this game, because I liked the challenge. While, to me, it’s not worth quitting the game over, it does require a bit of a change in mindset to play it now.
Thank you all for your feedback. I think I understand a bit better now why so many people are so upset. I do hope you all stay but it’s understandable if you choose not to.
@CeruleanGirl We’ll agree to disagree :) Sorry I didn’t mean my post to sound like it was aimed at you personally. It was more of me venting in general.
Yeah, I can’t possibly continue to play the game unless there’s some kind of massive apology that directly compensates specifically the players who’ve wasted hundreds of hours of their lives, and in many cases large sums of money. But I’m not sure how they can do that unless they undo the changes.
But otherwise, if I was to keep playing I’d just be waiting for the next time I got stabbed in the back and wasted hundreds of more hours.
I just prestiged my Forbidden Forest to Silver, finally, yay!
My Firenze (the most difficult to get!) was still shimmering, and at 13/13. I accidentally touched it when I scrolled up, and it now has 0/13 and a green star.
Does that mean that it's set to 'full' when the other foundables are filled for silver? Or do I need to get 13 Firenze's again to Prestige Silver?
yet another analogy, not 100% fitting but close enough, to convey how some of us feel (especially for those of you who do not seem to understand why the outrage or think this upgrade has been grand)
the fragment count update has both a retroactive aspect and a prospective aspect
retroactively, the update wiped out existing fragments earned by hard work and resources (dark detectors, potions, spell energy, and time) from hunting for those rarer foundables, in the wild or in fortresses or in portkeys. now imagine that your country’s national pension system (such as social security here in the usa) suddenly (and with less than 24 hours warning) declares and makes effective that all previous pension contributions in excess of 10 years will not be counted. that may be fine for younger (less experienced) workers who did not work that many years (so they suffer none or little loss from this new rule), but not for older (more experienced) workers who actually earned and saved through the pension system a lot. taking away that part of the pension is theft, even if it is done by the government rather than a company employer.
prospectively, the update also has changed the targets for prestiging ... some foundables become easier to prestige with lower target numbers while others become harder to prestige with higher target numbers. now imagine in your country’s national pension system that you are 2 months shy of your 60th birthday, or even already at age 62, but suddenly with little warning they raise the age when you can collect (or continue to collect) pension payments, from age 60 to age 70.
again, i know there are folks here who like to argue for arguments sake and will argue about how this pension analogy does not fit, rather than understand that the analogy is meant to help convey how it feels to have an investment earned by time and hard work be taken away or degraded by a callous wave of the wand, one that by the way was poorly planned, poorly announced, poorly tested, and poorly executed.

@SageWyze - yup, stiff and miserable. I don’t expect things to be “how I want them to be” but yes, you’re right, it is a game. It’s a game I absolutely adored until yesterday. I signed up to spend a large part of my life playing that game because, for the most part, I liked its objectives. I like the way Wizards Unite wanted things to be.
Imagine that you poured your heart and soul into playing football and spent hundreds of hours in training. And imagine that the cup final ended with your team 4-0 up. Then imagine you came off the pitch to be told, “ah, it’s actually the team that got the most corners that wins, so sorry you’ve lost.” That’s what just happened here.
Sure, every game and sport on the planet tweaks its rules every year, to keep things fair. But what games can’t do is fundamentally change their rules. Or at least if they want to survive they can’t.
@BusStopToyShop - i think i am showing my age. i read that niantic was spun out of google labs and i cannot help thinking that everyone there is either a google millionaire too rich to care about their own pensions, or a younger software programmer without sufficient experience / expertise in crisis management let alone communications, customer relations, and a basic understanding of economics.
@Greendragon9 Not to step on his toes, but I will do my best to answer. You cannot prestige a page until all of the images are placed at least one time. Once placed, the foundable gains the green star and the fragment counter resets to 0. If all of your foundables on the page were placed and still all had 0 fragment counters, you would be able to prestige and the frame would change. The advantage to the new system is that once you place you can continue to gain fragments and save them for after you prestige, or you can place it again to gain the family foundable boost.
The bad part of the ability to place is doing it on accident and cashing in fragments that you did not mean to. It really needs a confirmation box.
@hpwulola what about all the people that prestige before it was save, because we got no warning or anything!
Is it really the case that this change take alot from high up levels, and people that have spent alot of time and money on this game? And because we weren’t active on this forum it is just our loss, but some will keep all of their fragments, because they knew to wait? That would be really unfair.
Like BussTopToyShop and others on here, I loved this game until 24 hours ago. Prestiged before the warning came out and have had zero feedback as to what will be done to recover the situation for players like me.
Really want to find a reason to carry on playing but I suspect that unless my foundables are rolled back to pre update I won’t be convinced. I liked the game because of the challenge it presented, the game looks way to easy now ☹️
I've just watched several videos of famous youtubers (e.g. XpectoGO and Animagus) and they are so sorry for the situation but obviously it isn't their fault.
The nastiest thing is that this bug has had a negative impact on the most valuable players.
I hope they can find a solution.
It's a game, yes. It isn't life or death, absolutely agree. But I've spent time and effort since day one, so I don' t think being stiff and miserable. I am only upset to see my efforts gone.
I'm level 50 so I love this game so much and that's exactly why I'm upset and I presume I can afford it.
Anyway, thanks @hpwulola and hope the team and you can find the best solution for all
I would pay a small fee to have my account reevaluated and corrected. Would this be possible for those who have had such a disastrous experience with the new accounting system? Because of that time gap between implementation and warning?

@Hidrazona agree with you.
Adding one thing: i have NO SPAWN. Boost emergency or severe? For me, no spawn. Zero. Completely 0. No brilliant trace, no common. Nothing.
In one day, lost fragments and completely no spawn.
Very very disappointed.

yet another analogy, not 100% fitting but close enough, to convey how some of us feel (especially for those of you who do not seem to understand why the outrage or think this upgrade has been grand)
the fragment count update has both a retroactive aspect and a prospective aspect
retroactively, the update wiped out existing fragments earned by hard work and resources (dark detectors, potions, spell energy, and time) from hunting for those rarer foundables, in the wild or in fortresses or in portkeys. now imagine that your country’s national pension system (such as social security here in the usa) suddenly (and with less than 24 hours warning) declares and makes effective that all previous pension contributions in excess of 10 years will not be counted. that may be fine for younger (less experienced) workers who did not work that many years (so they suffer none or little loss from this new rule), but not for older (more experienced) workers who actually earned and saved through the pension system a lot. taking away that part of the pension is theft, even if it is done by the government rather than a company employer.
