I've been both the "involuntary late entrant" and one who had to carry a free-rider. For the most part though, when everything goes right, the new fortressing from home option is fantastic.
New error though, it was just me and another person and I was waiting to see if we got another person before joining so the wait period wouldn't end prematurely. Finally clicked "join", and the waiting room updated and 3 other people immediately showed as having entered and joined. So we all ended up entering at the same time, but the wait was unnecessary.
Poking around my screen seems to update the waiting room, so I'll start regularly doing that so it's not holding everyone up from fortressing. Thanks to whoever mentioned that above!
ETA: I will say that it's really irritating when people have the chance to pick the foe they are strongest against and instead they go after what I'm strongest against. Argh! I guess it's part of the learning curve.
Also, the strategy above says that Magizoos should cast the Bravery Charm when their Focus is 7+, but they (we :) ) only get the power bonus if we have a 5+ focus at all times. So it's usually not worth it unless there are a lot of Elites as need that extra power to knock out the foes quickly and move on to the next, or go back to the lobby so we can heal teammates. Unless other classes who can gift focus want to bestow some upon their fellow Magizoos so we have the focus to cast Bravery and still keep our focus high enough. That's hard to choreograph though without the ability to discuss strategy in-game.
@Punkyfins - if you see non-balanced team in the lobby, you may want to cancel out and try again either solo or with a different set of “teammates”. i have written elsewhere that i am swearing off two-person battles where it is just i and one other player, in case that other player is a free rider or a jumper
Yes, @kiheikid time to be bit pickier if people are going to leave halfway through battles. Usually I just wait in the lobby to see who wants to join (thinking that people who actively join will want to finish the battle. Apparently I am mistaken). As @Spondee indicates, sometimes the lobby spontaneously fills up too! I'll try clicking about a little to see whether that updates the lobby. Thanks for the tip.
@Punkyfins People "disappearing" might not necessarily be voluntarily leaving. There is an increasing amount of Bug Reports regarding (dis-)connection-issues and the like that could very well explain such observation.
I'd like to use this as a reminder to the aphorism known as "Hanlon's ****":
"Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity"
(and it's computer-adaptation "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by a bug")
Yes. @Lucoire :) and you can see in the other thread that I totally support that idea. But I *have* been adapting my strategy accordingly. I've found that in some cases I'm gearing towards your idea to cast proficiency *first*. Then defence on either an active Auror or myself (depending on the chamber / foes) lather rinse repeat, until you can start hexing.
Cons: it's not quite as fast and as strong as protection first
Pros: if Aurors do not give you focus (and instead prefer to hex foes, for example) you will already have boosted the whole team. If someone leaves or is booted: it's less of a risk.
Incidentally, do you have any thoughts on the relative overrepresentation of profs?
Edited: I am not being clear, I think. I agree in principle (as I stated earlier) most of these bailouts/mistakes are bugs/learning etc. Etc. But as I stated in my previous post in this thread: it happens so incredibly often: that would be to contend a bucket load of bugs...
@Kodokmag if you mean the deterioration hex styles seem to differ. Personally I hex the highest hp foes, and do not care who fights them. But there are also profs who like to hex foes that they can attack themselves. It should theoretically be visible. Werewolves are best left to the profs. Acromatulas and dark wizards to magis and aurors respectively. So if you stick to your own proficiency, it should be okay. :)
@Punkyfins Sidenote: The "priorising Bravery Charm" is only partly for the Damage vs Elites. It also counts as an Enhancement that increases the Power of Professors 😉
... and ain't that the truth @Lucoire . This way I also get something out of it, myself. 😊😜 I usually have a potion on, so that's my two enhancements sorted instantly. 😊
(When I used to battle with my local Auror -who is also my partner- I'd protect him first. But that's easier to arrange when you can communicate a battle plan beforehand, as has been stated before).
While solo i'm usually count time, how much time used to defeat a foe. Last time team battle. I think we got 2 magi and 2 auror, and 2 last foes is werewolf with hex flashes, time are at 2 minutes and half or so. No one picking so I take one immediately considering time is ticking.
From the auror perspective, I try to pass focus first (usually three to four) down a strong invigorating then start hexing highest to lowest foes, no matter the profession. Sometimes that's a dark first, sometimes curiosity, sometimes a beast. I only Hex pixies if they are 3*+ and I have to fight them, but that's to save se. Sometimes if my darks are engaged I will jump in and first strike other things, just to help. But I have found it confuses people and they sit there not picking up the foe when I jump out. Hard to get across when communicating is lacking.
Aurors should know that there Weaken and confusion hexs cost only 1 focus each
a professors dex hex is 3 focus each. It takes professors time to build up the free focus from the board or costs 1 strong invigoration draught potion to use.
@Bormacska please correct me if i'm wrong the Auror lesson- it's Playing Dirty- helps Aurors with foes under 50% stamina. So if your foes are creature heavy and there are NO DE or DW for the Auror the other professions can help their Auror battle partners by fighting creature until they are under 50% stamina and moving on letting a auror finish it off-- And yes this needs the Auror to know this strategy.
This is helpful when there is not a magi.
Good team strategy spend your focus as soon as foes are defeated. exception Magis should save for bravery and healing.
Yes, as a professor I'm seeing a lot of fellow professors. We seem to be over 50% of the folks I'm seeing in waiting rooms. I haven't liked to start a fight on a foe and then step out, even when I know that there is another player who is better suited to fight that mob. It feels rude to me given the scarcity of spell energy when folk are trying to stay home. Is this something that is OK to do then & a known tactic? The time I wish I could is when I often seem to be the one to take on the last mob because nobody else is fighting it, and I'd much prefer it if we could share the spell cost & each give it a few whacks!
It's so hard to judge. I love *love* playing the professor. But I have an Auror lined up and a Magi (with which I actually started gameplay). I just finished my achievement for the 15 RB. So I'm truly wondering which of the professions need a boost: so I can help out better...
Currently it looks like Magis are rarest...
Edited: sorry.😂 that sounded like a soliloquy. All input generally is welcome on professions you would like to see more of. 😊
if you decide to bail out of the lobby while the clock is counting down, please do so with at least 45 seconds (out of total 2 minutes) remaining on the timer ... this leaves enough time either for the other players in the lobby to decide whether or not to stay without you (as a A / M / P) in the team mix or for additional persons to possibly join the chamber lobby in your place.
this is especially important in higher chambers like Dark5, where success depends on the number and balance/mix of Aurors, Magizoologists, and Professors fighting together as a team.

It does seem like there are fewer magis out there. Professor was always good for soloing, so I think a lot of normal solo players will be professors.

Anyway, i notice that many foes got many hex without anyone fight them. Should i wait or something?
The hex thingy are rather confusing....

Boom!
@Owlx This little beasty here? Yes. And early on in the lessons too, so a baby Auror should be good to go.
