Spell Books & Runestones
I am discovering quickly that spell books are getting harder to come by. The primary way to get spell books appears to be ranking up in the Registry. Before using a Runestone, check the Registry to see which family you are close to ranking up. Use the corresponding Runestone in a Fortress to gain extra family XP which will help you rank up faster.
Caveat: Not all Fortress rewards provide family XP, but when they do, it's like 10XP compared to 2-3 from regular traces encountered in the wild.

Thanks for the tip!
Runestones are slowly getting to be another bottleneck as well. So spend them wisely.
I'm learning ranking up in the Registry under 'Exploration' is providing mostly scrolls. I'm having a closer look at 'Challenges' now as I believe this may be the source of spell books I may be looking for; especially Books 1, 11 and 111. I'm getting a good stack of these as I move higher up the ladder in the Fortress and I'm hoping those fancy green treasure trunks have the goods.
@Caeleon noted, I still have a bunch but I did wonder about supply.
I find that I get spellbooks from completing challenges and scrolls and runestones from ranking up in the registry. For me, the bottleneck is turning out to be the restricted section books. :-/
HAs anyone had any consistent results by unlocking chambers above their profession grade?
@ZookiTabooki As you know, you get runes for ranking up in your registries. At 2 tokens per already completed foundable, you need 50 of them to rank up and get a rune. So yeah... After a few runs in a fortress... Add the issue of spell energy hampering your daily farm and you'll see your pool of stones dwindling really fast.
@Stelle006 Yes! Currently grade 6 Professor and cleared chamber 7 (Tower Chamber 2) on my own yesterday, with a reasonable use of portions for support. I was left with the impression I might be able to tackle the next chamber too.
You can also find Family-xp from port-keys. Especially the event-7km often gives 5-40 event-family-xp
