My feelings are that the reward to effort ratio is way off throughout this game - not just with the walking achievements. They have a LOT of revamping to do or this game is seriously not going to last long. I will say that I've used a lot of my Google Play credits on this game because micro-transactions are almost mandatory for game progress. But I'm not spending another Play credit on it. They need to fix the things we as a community have been asking for.
Ingame-Progress in games without a clear "end" is always going to be slow. Understandably Players want to progress faster, complete things asap and therefore obviously complain about how what the developers built doesn't fit their expectations.
It's a tad bit annoying to see so many players act like they'd know better or that they could do better. Niantic has built and maintained 2 successful games - so why don't you just take a step back and enjoy the ride rather than complaining about the speed of progress?
It's a GAME, not a JOB. The primary goal is ENJOYING, not COMPLETING. If you measure your enjoyment of the game based on how much achievements (or "progress") it throws at you, you're already setting up disappointment for yourself.
Think about the word "achievement" for a moment. It rewards you for having ACHIEVED something. And now ask yourself: did you ACHIEVE something? DID you walk those 1000 km for your own fitness?

@Overflow4487 "Think "long term"". This statement cannot be over emphasized enough.
@Osprey1 I played Eve Online for over 10 years before I gave up my throne at the computer for a pair of walking shoes and an opportunity to enjoy gaming with my wife, together. I really enjoy the 'Get out and Go' aspect of gaming today.
@Lucoire Good point! I walk many steps everyday and HPWU is in my routine. It's for my fitness and health. I do cycling too. Poeple should walk, run and cycle more for god's sake.
btw, some people doesn't like being out, so they can level up their own way, but Portkeys are the best! :D Yoohoo!
id rather have enrgy! but im not really doing it for the gold or anything i like the portkeys and i like the idea of loosing weight by walking lots. i have a pedometer on my phone.. and it counts my steps this game increases my pedompter steps per day!
Got the game because I’m attempting a million step challenge in aid of diabetes. It’s over three months so not impossible. And that’s a lot of portmanteaus...

Think "long term", LOL! Maybe by next year we'll have them all.
I'm not worried about the distance (1,000 km). It's the reward that is simply too depressing (20 coins).
Agreed, disappointing... :(

I edited the above comment but apparently it needs to await approval.
