Open Maps: What should walkways be tagged as?

So lets say that I live in an area with newly constructed walking paths. And lets say I was planning on getting some GPX tracking software, and sending these walking paths to OpenMaps.


What does HPWU (or Pokemon Go, for that matter) want to see these tagged as to count as in-game walkways?

    I'm not sure where to put this, and can't find a better location in the forums.


    Roads that are marked in OpenMaps as alleyways -- highway = service, service = alley -- show up as normal roads.


    My question is: Is this the intended behavior? Should alleys show up as real roads?
