I think the game needs to have more customizable avatars instead of just the coloured figures we get which do not add any personal touch. The interactive nature of the game would be much more immersive if the characters were unique to the individual. Clothing and start boosting items could be added to seek out as well as foundables to keep the game fresh and could be earned from fortresses. I also think that a competitive aspect needs adding between houses or just between each other which should be duelling. Games succeed when a competition is added and a prime example is pokemon go which included a team system from the beginning and battles I think this should be similar. The battles shouldn't be complicated or dissimilar to the battles against AI but should include the ability to dodge aswell as block to make it more skill based and difficult. Overall though the game is fantastic.

Absolutely! I'm a little shocked they aren't doing more to promote their own cosmetics (public display, avatar display etc.)
I don't remember Pokemon Go having a team system in the beginning. It could have been there, I don't remember. There have been a lot of changes/additions to Pokemon Go since it debuted.
I agree with avatar customization, robes are kind of a Hogwarty/formal occasion kind of thing anyway. I'd love to have a quidditch uniform and a Firebolt.
PVP has been debated ad nauseam. Please do a search for PVP for a complete rundown.
If we're talking about the in-game avatar on the map, I'm not so worried about being able to customize that (and I'm an RPer at heart - though the solid color silhouette thing is a bit annoying). Not even really sure how much customization for that you would be able to see. And since each one is one of the colors of one's respective house, I don't have a huge issue with it. I think there are some serious mechanics issues that definitely need to be top priorities.
However, when it does come to cosmetic customization, I agree with @Siragaz in regards to our public display (profile info) in that we should be able to share other elements of it. One thing I would like to see is our ability to share our pic with anyone on our friend's list.
The wand, however, I don't think should be automatically displayed. I kinda like the "Confidential" aspect of it. However, if you team up with someone in a fortress (say 3 or more times), then that person should know what your wand looks like. It would almost be an achievement in its own right.
There Pokemon Go avatar is quite customizable. I expect this will be added in the future.
