It appears they went with this. I guess there are plenty of people out there using it, but I never stumbled across it until this forum. It's quirky, to say the least.
I'm very glad you posted this! This feature is now available, and I just had a discussion with @HPWUMicah on whether or not we should turn it on. We are on the same wavelength!
Overall, when it comes to setting up the forum, we did have strict guidelines since there are a lot of companies involved with our product! Please continue to share feedback like this and I will look into what we can do!
@HPWULola thanks so much. But as indicated in my accidental quote above when I clicked the button, how do I get rid of it? I’m on an iPhone always when I access this site. When I hit the back button on this new quote box, it just outlines it in blue but won’t delete. I have to leave the page and then go to my drafts and delete it that way and start over. Same goes for when I accidentally put the wrong picture into a post. Can’t delete but have to scrap the draft and start over.
I don’t like it one bit. I’d much rather stick with the original quote feature that allows me to selectively quote sentences or phrases instead of an entire post. Also, get off my lawn, and other grumpy words.
I don’t like this new quote feature either!! It sucks on mobile as MrSciGuy points out. And if you’re just wanting to quote a small portion of someone else’s comment, having the whole comment duplicated is totally unhelpful. Why would you want to duplicate a whole comment in the first place? Don’t we try to delete duplicate comments? @HPWULola
Oh dear! Well, let's consider this trial and error! I'll let the forum folks know this feature has poor UI and remove it from the forum. Thanks for the feedback, folks!
I am still unable to figure out how to quote a post.
If I type an ">" at the start of a line, I get this.
But:
Two of them were typed here
one was typed here
None here
There is no way to indicate multiple levels of quotes.
There is no "link-back" that I can find.
None here

That was an attempt to "paste" multiple lines into a quote. Note that the first line did not get into the quote block.
There is no way to distinguish between "who said what" if I'm replying to multiple people.
Now, actually trying to respond to people:
Any other questions?
Yea. After putting what you said in as a "pasted quote", I have to hit return twice to get into normal mode. And how do I credit you?
I don’t like it one bit. I’d much ... selectively quote ... phrases ... off my lawn.
Agreed :-)
Well, at least it's a start. ">" puts a line on the lines, but you only ever get one line, cannot link back to the original, can't credit who said what.
Does it even matter? Shouldn't the CONTENT of the message be the only thing that matters while the messenger is irrelevant?
And as a more abstracted comment: you seem to struggle with adapting to different ways of doing things. Why not try something new once in a while and maybe, just maybe, you discover something new or even learn something?

Welcome to the world of Asperger's. And I do try adapting to different ways. I do wonders when there's actually a manual or documentation, which I find lacking here.
@Keybounce have you found the New Players section of the forum? There might be threads of use to you. When the forum was new, it was much easier to keep abreast of all the info. Now there are TONS of threads, and for good or bad, many duplicate posts/topics. But hopefully it’s not too cumbersome to find the more pertinent threads that may help you figure things out.
If I find the time, I'll (experiment with it and) put together a documentation - primarily because the WYSIWYG-Editor seems to not work that well on mobile. (unless @hpwulola has a Documentation already prepared that could "solve" this easily 😅)
Bless you, @Lucoire - the WYSIWYG stuff along the bottom had me despairing that Markdown wouldn't work, and there's nothing more embarrassing than having a bunch of unparsed markdown code in your post.

What I've discovered so far is that:
Blockquotes is caused by a ">" (greater than) followed by a " " (space). For Multi-Line versions of this, "> " needs to be at the beginning of EACH line
is caused by a "*" (asterisk) followed by a " " (space). For Multi-Line Versions of this, "* " needs to be at the beginning of EACH line
is caused by a "1" (the number ONE) followed by a "." (dot) followed by a " " (space). For Multi-Line Versions of this, "1. " needs to be at the beginning of EACH line. The numbers used do not have to ascend
This is a h2 Headline caused by a "##" (2 times octothorpe) followed by a " " (space).
Other headlines are caused by ###, ####, ##### respectively
bold is caused by "**" (2 times asterisk) before and after the word/section - WITHOUT a space in between.
italics is caused by "*" (1 times asterisk) before and after the word/section - WITHOUT a space in between
Strikethrough is caused by using the "~~" (2 times tilde) before and after - without a space in between
Inline is caused by "`" (backtick) before and after.
Codeblocks is caused by "```" (3 times backtick) in the LINE before and after
Still to test:
Intending of Lists
Codeblocks (type of syntax Highlighting)
Images
Links (probably [Link](http://www.google.de) or something similar but haven't gotten it to work yet)
Once a line has been "formatted" in a certain way by the live formatter, there is no good way to override it. I am not typing in plain text with markdown that gets formatted -- I'm good with that -- but rather, the formatting is "live" and once decided that's it.
#2. Pasting will ignore that, and give you something else.
If I am in a quote block
And I try to paste in something for a quote
All traces are classified into "rarity" groups:
Low
Medium - 100 xp
High - 150 xp + yellow glow on the map
Severe - orange glow on the map
Emergency - 500 xp + red glow on the map
See how that section lost the quoting?
Attempting to put ">" at the start of those lines is prohibited becuase "I'm smarter than you, I won't let you change the formatting type of those lines".

I don't know how to tell this to you but there is a "Quote"-Function.
If used it looks like
this. Exactly like this.
Any other questions?
😂

@MrSciGuy Ah, thanks for the feedback. On desktop, you hit backspace and it disappears. I'll let them know of this bug on mobile.
I don’t like it one bit. I’d much rather stick with the original quote feature that allows me to selectively quote sentences or phrases instead of an entire post. Also, get off my lawn, and other grumpy words.

@HPWULola Thank you, you're the best!! The current quote function seems to work fine, assuming users know how to use it.
Agreed!
Now if only we could delete images on mobile without having to delete the entire draft and start over…
@MrSciGuy Responsive Design is hard.

@Keybounce The Formatting-Style of the Forum seems to be Markdown.

I am aware. That's why I expressed that I will put this together to a PROPER guide.
I'd much rather just have a rich text editor, but HPWU says we can't have nice things.
I read about it in Hogwarts: a History.
