@MrSciGuy - I think others have answered your question, protection lasts for all foes within the tower session
I’m knocking off the 15 Green book hats now, only 8 to go and 79 Red books to complete the lesson plan, anticipate another 4 months to acquire the required Green books
I usually play with a Magizoologist so my tactics are based upon doing higher level towers to maximise points
If I play alone, and attempting higher level towers I am most concerned to not run out of time - generally I know how many spells I need and prepare accordingly
Having said all that, I use protection to reduce damage received from all foes in the session - initially sacrificing spell energy by not hexing my first opponent
Then I have decisions to make, if playing with a Magizoologist, their protection is very important so I usually Invigorate, again depending upon tower level and foes. Same logic applies to using perfection charm - mine is currently 40% - so I may Invigorate twice to apply
Potions only go so far, Potent Exstimulo are somewhat overpowered for most opponents notwithstanding unicorn hair rarity whereas I tend to use far more Invigoration draughts and Strong Exstimulo potions and prepare accordingly
The key thing is to **** all foes before the clock runs down, and in my usual scenario, if the Magizoologist dies then success becomes far less certain

@Owlx - i see that relatively early on, you had already gone to 4/5 for accuracy as a professor. i’m curious whether:
(A) you found the 10 red books spent on increasing accuracy from 3/5 to 4/5 to have been a good value, or too expensive at the time for the incremental better accuracy
(B) you have increased accuracy since then from 4/5 to maxed 5/5, and if so, again whether that further 10 red spell books was a good value or too expensive for the difference between 3/5 and 4/5
??
i ask, because currently i am at 3/5 accuracy as a professor and have 20 red spell books to spend. i was intending to spend 30 red spell books yo increase stamina from penultimate 376 to maxed 397, before increasing my accuracy from 3/5 to 4/5 and then 5/5 ... but i am no longer so certain for two main reasons:
first, the penultimate stamina level of 376 is already pretty good, as i find i no longer need huge amounts of healing potions to conquer the dark chamber levels, either as a solo or teaming up with da missus (an auror) ... as i have mentioned earlier, my experience in the dark chamber levels is that saving time is crucial against 3000+ and 4000+ point foes ( offense >
defense ), so i am more focused on eliminating foes as fast as i can than on outslugging them (and i can still chug a healing potion as needed)
second, it burns me when i take a potent or strong exstimulo potion and waste part of their boost when an erkling or pixie foe dodges.* the accuracy boost from 3/5 to 4/5 and then maxed 5/5 would (i hope) cut down the number of times they successfully dodge and, with it, the overall time spent battling against erklings and pixies as the clock counts down.
so, @Owlx , i would be most grateful if you might share your thoughts on whether increasing your accuracy as a professor up to 4/5 (and, if applicable, then to 5/5) was a good investment of 10 red books (per increased step) at the time you did it. thank you in advance.
* as a footnote, my wife and i successfully teamed up to conquer dark chamber 4 yesterday, but i encountered a nasty erkling that dodged 4 straight times and thereby completely negated the first strong exstimulo potion i used on him. i then popped a potent, and that erkling still dodged twice more while the potent was in effect. this was the experience that prompted me to make this inquiry to you, @Owlx
@kiheikid short answer 1st- Stamina last. Defense then power. Currently I'm at 130/134 complete lessons. I just finished all my red book lessons. There are no wrong choices you will eventually get all the lessons.
With increased accuracy pixies and erkling don't dodge as much. I found it much more valuable than stamina.
As you close on a complete lesson plan, read the lesson descriptions go for the one that as the highest increase to defense or power. ie if power increase is +10 and defense is +6 go for the +10 then stamina last
Congrats on 2 person dark 4!
I solo in forrest mostly. My group meets Saturdays and we always to 5 person battles. Lucky it's a huge group.
Stop sweating using potions look at them as a tool. Increasing accuracy will make pixies easier-save exstimulo for werewolves, acormatulas, erklings.
Where is your Dex hex? I use that more than potions.
Trying to stay focused on your actual question and was about to go on a potion tangent. That's for another discussion later.
@Owlx - perfect; thank you. my dex hex (though nerfed by niantic/hpwu) has been maxed for a long time and those instances when i must go without dex hex, due to insufficient focus, against literal big-a$$ hairy spiders and evasive erklings take up so much precious time. can’t do anything about the spiders but going max on accuracy at this point before we attempt dark-5 should help, i hope. back to brewing potions. (grumble grumble about scarcity of scurvygrass and sneezewort)
Strong invigorating tonic is the most valuable Fortress potion! You and your wife should both be brewing it. It's great for Aurors, they can transfer focus immediately.
I find that if I want the Ingredient I need (even if I'm not going back to harvest) I find it more frequently on the map.
@Owlx - thank you. funny you should mention that, da missus believes she sees more of the ingredient, whose seed she has planted, for a certain time afterwards ... even back at home. can’t prove it, but can’t disprove it either.
would love to brew more strong invigorations but sneezewort and esp. scurvygrass are in short supply right now.
when we team up, she transfers to me 3 focus, which i use to put defense charm back onto her. i’ll use 3 of my initial 4 focus for det hex against my first foe unless it is a pixie, and otherwise i’ll put a defense charm on myself ... then, on the second foe, i’ll use (assuming i have at least 3 focus from my leftover initial focus plus the focus from defeating first foe) the next 3 focus on defense charm on myself if i have not already done so and pop a strong invig if needed to det hex any non-pixie. pixies i don’t need det hex for, generally, because of their relatively lower hit points. of course, if i see a lobby full of werewolves (for me) or dark wizzards/death eaters (for da missus), i’ll (take additional strong invigs as needed to) do the 7-focus proficiency on the team. i am still amazed we succeeded in dark4 recently (our first attempt) because it was mostly erklings and acromantulas.
