Why can't we send letters via owl to our friends?

I'm not exactly why we even have friends yet at this point but I'm sure there will be more features added soon. One I was expecting at launch was the ability to send items to our friends via owl. Similar to PoGo how we can send gifts each day. I was kind of surprised not to see this right away. What do you think?

Sending messages has the same problem as sharing photos in my mind. They have to implement the filters to protect minors before they can allow messages.
Sending gifts on the other hand may have an interesting impact on the economy of the game. It could have some unaffected side affects like encouraging paid players who cheat (spoof location) to grow cops and trade them for real cash. It could simply result in efficient resource distribution lowering the amount of money spent on potions and ingredients. On the other hand allowing the gifting of premium items could increase sales.
I think it would be great to send "letters" with drop down options instead of an actual chat box, something like Wizard 101 or Toontown had as safety measure. This really helped when there was battles with cogs or wizards. As for gifts, it would be simple if there as a built in program that you can only send an option of certain items once a day or to "friends". Once again like a drop down option of a certain selection in a certain amount of time span. Perhaps it's a coding nightmare.
When I say "letters" I don't necessarily mean written messages. I mean more like PoGo gifts where its a random assortment of spell energy, materials, potions, a chance at a rare foundable etc.
I think that would be a very cute idea. After all, owls usually transport other things and not just letter. I concur with Charminggirl up there, maybe a drop down list of options for letter would be a cool option instead of an actual chat box. And for the ability to send stuff, maybe we can choose a category (food, ingredients, potions, etc) and deliver something in that category randomly OR pick from a pre-selected list of daily stuff and send it over one per day.
I was hoping that Friends would be able to join in Fortress battles even if they were in a fortress on the other side of the world. Not sure what the purpose is at present otherwise - but please feel free to add me anyway - 6941 0451 1051
I’m almost certain they’ll bring some more friend features soon. I reckon they’ll have it as another way to get energy and ingredients, much like the Pokémon Go gifts.
@StevieWiz That's exactly what I was thinking. I'm kind of shocked its not already in game. Watching the Owls and Ministry Letters fly around the map is just teasing us.

@Junshark Not sure why they think holding off on features to release later is going to work here. It hasn't worked for most games this year and this game is not competing well in the app store already. They need to rethink their first year release strategy that's for sure.
Seeing a lot of stuff pogo has already and is very good, is mind blowing that they didnt add it in WU in release,
@GodManu The features are there already just waiting to be rolled out on a planned schedule. Which is a mistake for this game. Niantic may find out the hard way if they dont change course NOW. For a new release like this to be lingering lower than #50 on the app store is an embarrassment.
