It happened to me as well. I re-installed it many times but the distance were not tracked. But the following trick helped me though:
GPS settings at high accuracy and battery saver mode is disabled.
I clear device cache every time before opening the game to avoid most of the issues😁
I've heard that installing the app "GPS Status" helps with this. I've had it installed for years so I don't have first hand experience of a difference, but someone in another thread mentioned it helping them.
@KateSpadee driving distance won't count. If you watch your avatar on the screen, when you are flying on the broom your distance is not being counted.
The other thing that has helped me is being sure that your GPS is as accurate as possible. I use an Android App called GPS Status to help keep my GPS assistance data up to date. This appears to help improve the time it takes to get a good GPS position and keep my position from drifting as much.
See it doesn't even show a broom at all when I travel?

Your little wizard on the screen walks when your distance is being counted. If you are driving, or you are being moved on the map because of a GPS error you will see him flying on a broom. When that happens your distance doesn't count.
Yeah for the most part all the wizard does is spin in circles ?
