Now that it's been four months since the game went live, I imagine there are plenty of good memes floating around. Show us what you've got! Oh, and keep it family friendly!
Conducting a test to figure out GIFs. Does it work to post them via desktop browser? Mobile browser? External link? I don't know, but I want to find out.
@MrSciGuy, just any other space on the web you can upload images to, like imgur. I happen to have several domain names I've used for various purposes over the years, but don't really use for anything nowadays other than to upload and share files. On any publicly accessible server (windows, linux, or otherwise) you can enable various services for web hosting, email, FTP, SSH, and so on. Even if you pay someone else to host your domain (BlueHost, GoDaddy, Network Solutions, HostGator, etc), you'll generally have access to all these services.
FTP (file transfer protocol) has always been the most common way to upload or retrieve files to and from the web before the various cloud services came along. You can use a simple client application like WinSCP or FileZilla, or even a web browser to do it.
For backup and sharing of all my personal and professional data between family and colleagues, I use Microsoft's cloud service. But linking to an image on Google Photos or OneDrive doesn't always achieve the results you want.
Here for example, if I try to share an image via OneDrive, it just posts a thumbnail and some meta data about the image. Like so:
I would rather just display the image itself, so I have to do it the "old fashioned" way by uploading to an FTP server and posting a direct link to the image file.
Of course, now we're able to add an image directly to the post, but we didn't have that ability on this forum at first. They added that feature after much demand for it. Ever since, I haven't had to upload my images elsewhere and share a link to them in my posts.
BUT, it looks like I still have do to that if I want to share GIFs. If I try to add a GIF directly to the post using the image button at the bottom of the post editor, it converts it to a still image.
By default, this forum platform (VanillaForums) doesn't support animated GIFs with its image upload function. There are plugins or core modifications to address this though, and maybe the admins will get around to fixing it eventually.
@Acumen thanks for the very detailed explanation. I now know what you mean as far as having to “host/pull” the GIF from somewhere else, as this forum won’t let you directly upload one (yet).
DISCLAIMER: To anyone reading this who is thinking about also sharing images from their own personal domain space, I don't recommend doing it unless you have domain privacy enabled. Otherwise, a simple WHOIS query against your domain name will reveal the name, phone number, physical address, and email address you registered the domain under.
Comments
I made this one in the first week, back when the pumpkin juice still looked like a bottle of Kikkoman soy sauce.
When the Inn has four turkey dinners and one pumpkin juice...

No memes yet? (sigh)
I'm not angry, just disappointed.
I'm also sad that GIFs don't work here. Dumb forum. 💩
Not mine, but still funny:

Test number two:
Ah, it only works when I upload the image to my FTP server and post it as an external link. Well, there you have it.
@Acumen ...FTP server?
@Acumen nice but in plain English so we can all follow?😂😝

I knew that I'd done it before.
Ok not really a meme but still funny

@Owlx lol 😂 I was totally imagining that while reading it.
...Dumbledore... ... ... ... Dumbledore...
I should post some of my favorite comics that artists have done.... ok I'm just going to do it. Original can be found here (giving proper credit to the artist of course): https://twitter.com/Mmeladydunlavey/status/1150813751702167552
