This post isn’t so much about forum feedback as it is a PSA of sorts. Some community members may not be aware of this function, but there might come a day when a user here will find this function helpful. You can find it under your profile preferences. Please, if you find yourself contemplating leaving the forum due to particular users’ posts, use this function! I don’t say this lightly, as this is a community with many vibrant personalities, which is one reason why it’s so great. But sometimes you just don’t jive with someone else (to put it kindly), and that’s when this function can be used.

@Bormacska Ha, true! Most times, I end up adding bots to a block list, but thankfully we don't have any of those here (yet... knock on wood). I don't imagine I'll ever fill that list.
I didn't know this feature existed! Thanks @Dogoutlaw for this. Hoping il never need to use it. But i do get quite deeply affected by negativity- much more than I should. Quite a delicate soul am I. Lol

@AuroraKadavra you’re welcome, and I know what you mean. Negativity seriously brings me down, and the forum took a small nosedive for me this week.
Yeh it did for me too! I think that I have so much to deal with at home (as I'm sure we all do) and so this game has provided a wonderful escape from reality & brings a positive focus in the fun of all the many challenges & events are awesome!
So when I read people's comments where they seem to be arguing with each other or everything they post has a negative slant to it- that really brings me down & makes me feel wary of reading conversations where normally I would always enjoy having a read.
I know people have gotta report problems- ive done the same of course, but not in an angry way. There just seemed to be so much anger & i thought- it's just a game!!? Surely it's not that much of a problem to justify that much hostility? If it did that to me I'd definitely just be uninstalling it!?
But anyway, I'm hoping that the comments have all been made, and the forum can crack on with being a place of support, advice, celebration of the good, and a respectful reporting of the bad in app feedback for the mods & devs to act upon- which they have been doing haven't they? So yeh- deep breaths, back to the fun of the game & helping to make it better for everyone as it grows over time.
Completely agree. It seems some lose perspective that it is just a game. A free game at that. I play it, and come here, as a small escape from life. I’m hopeful things will get better, but may end up using this feature if not...🤷🏼♀️
Yep! You've summed it up way better than i did lol. I'm hopeful it will get back to usual and any complaints will go to app feedback & not turn into members arguing on announcement pages. That was just upsetting to see & really didn't feel like how the forum should work.

I get sucked into those conversations because I feel like it's dumb to get so angry over a game. Yet, here I am, getting angry over how dumb it is that someone is so angry over a game. I'll be type my annoyed reply, knowing full well that it's dumb of me to respond at all. Then, as any reasonable person could predict, it'll escalate to a whole new level of dumb and I'll wonder to myself, "How did this happen?" Because I'm dumb, that's why. If I was smart, I'd ignore the negative posts and let them disappear below the fold as the better posts with good conversations tend to get bumped up to the top organically. But, I'm not smart. I'm a big, dumb dummy-head who's good at being funny sometimes and should really just stick to that. 😏
@Acumen I know what you mean. I’ve got some Irish redheaded blood in my veins, and oh man the temptation to respond! Sometimes I fail miserably to keep my mouth shut. But I’m trying to get better. And you’re so right about letting the negativity sink down and letting the good threads rise up. I have caught myself when deciding whether to reply and thought of that very fact. And so I leave it and usually those threads do go out of sight. It’s a pretty awesome mechanic of the forum if you think about it.
Sometimes I see certain posts that literally make me yell out "Yikes!" and then I close that tab. If I was an admin being paid for it? Sure, I'll reply. But taking away from my own time? Nah. Not anymore.
There was one post a while back, where someone was suuuuuuper condescending, and it got a really long reply from me. And then I'm pretty sure that person never ever posted again, and it wasn't because of the replies they got, but just because some people post their frustration on the forum and never come back.
So I've been trying to learn from that. Not everyone is here to build a community, some are here just to vent.
@JulieJubz text is hard. I may have come off condescending sometimes although that is never me viewpoint. When I met some people in my area they thought I was angry because of some post. I happen to be on the autism spectrum although very high functioning (what used to be called Asperger's Syndrome). I don't really do subtext. So if you see something you don't like from me, try looking at just the literal words because that is all I'm ever actually saying.
@Ginnungagap that's totally a valid point! In my super early days of internet, we had so much trouble with that kind of thing. Tone being implied or not. I'm just thankful that english is basically almost my native language, because I think I get a lot more than I normally would have been able to.
And I used to be the super extroverted hyper type when I was younger, so I'm sure I've come off as rude at times when I never meant to be. Now a days all of that manifested into anxiety and I try to be super extra careful with my words, and that can be tiresome too.
All in all... I'm glad we're at least all trying our best :D

Think you're right tho guys, things can eacalate so quickly with written messages when you can't hear the tone or see a oersons face to see they aren't being as serious as it sounds.
i would remind folks here that nothing is free, including this game
as for real world money, the download was free but additional in-app purchases using gold coins bought/exchanged at gringotts tab of in-app diagon alley store for real world currency are absolutely not free
as for other costs, that includes investments of time and emotion (known as goodwill in real life financial accounting)
so let’s all also tone down the condescending, if not insulting, “it’s just a (free) game” rhetoric that somehow allows certain folks to feel superior to others - you have no (adjective deleted) clue how others value the same amount or units of money and/or time and/or emotions expended by different folks, and neither do i. i can say, i do not appreciate being told to **** my own losses of time, money, etc. just because the initial download was free.

@kiheikid I think that's true and you're right on bringing it up. The only thing I'll say though, is that most of the time when I or some of the others bring up the game being "free" as a point, it's more because some of the people posting are being downright mean expecting things to be done at the drop of a hat. So the idea isn't to be condescending to anyone, but rather to try and present a different argument.
I'm from a third world country, dollar is almost 5x my money depending on all the political turmoil around us. If I didn't live in a good sized city, this game would absolutely s*ck for me, not being able to invest on more. So I can openly admit that I have assumed things wrong in the past and realized it's not the same for everyone. But that's also why I love the forum, we grow and learn.

i, for one, did not expect fix at drop of a hat, but conversely i certainly expected fixes earlier than 12 days and counting. and my bigger-picture point always has been that it is not responsible to release such a bug-infested update (where fixes are not quickly implemented) without sufficient beta-testing.
there is a real world cost to many of us from their rushing the update to market prematurely.
So if i say a game is free- which is my opinion- i don't charge it for the time & emotion I willingly put into it- cos for one ITS A GAME!!! And for 2, its actually helping me thru a tough time at the moment, as is this forum & the wonderful conversations, banter & things I learn- so maybe it should be billing me!? - but that makes me condescending?
Once again put forward in an aggressive, condescending, let's see just how negative I can be about everything & let's see if i can start an argument in an empty house kinda way!!

As you say @Dogoutlaw this forum has recently taken a real nose-dive & with the event being tonight! Omg I'm sooo excited for that!!! I can't have constant negativity taking away the joy this game & the forum brings. It turns out il be needing to use the feature after all. Glad you let me know it exists so i can get back to coming on here and having civil conversations! 😊

@AuroraKadavra I reached my limit the other night, so you made it longer than me. Don't feel bad. If other people can stand his behavior, fair enough. At least we have a choice on whether we see it or not.
I finally used the ignore feature.
I realized that I was avoiding the forums because they weren't fun anymore.
I've decided I get to be okay with ignoring someone.
Ah @Osprey1 , it does suck to finally use it. Hopefully we'll get to see you and your amazing posts more often again. I know you're busy, but you've been missed.
I've also been curious what you've thought about the current environment given your expertise. I know this isn't the right place to discuss, but I've often found myself wondering, What would Osprey think?
@Osprey1 thanks for that... I decided the same. It was driving me absolutely crazy and I have a LOT of patience. But... wow. I just couldn't anymore.
