Walking and GPS
Does anyone know what qualifies as walking when trying to unlock the Portkey Portmanteaus? Is it your actual GPS location when walking or if I go to the mall or my local park and walk laps around the place will it count that as kilometers walked without me having to actually walk 5+ kilometers down the road away from my original starting point?

I live in a rural area, and the app seems to have my road on the map. I just walked over a mile, with the app open the whole time, avatar moving along the road. It didn't register a single step of it on my port keys. I was in town earlier, and it had no issue. Very frustrating.
One problem I've found is that if I go over 10 miles per hour, it accuses me of driving. Usually, I'm on a bike. They need to fix that. In their previous 2 games, I've never experienced such absurd limitations.
I just click "passenger" and it counts. Sadly, it only counts if the app is open on mine. If it's running in the background, it doesn't count. Annoyed.
I discovered accidentally that you don’t have to walk at all if you can’t for some reason. If you are in the car and the game is running, it counts that as walking. I was driving and left my phone open to the game on the passenger seat. I did have to click that I was a passenger, but it was fine after that, and all of my portmanteaus were opening! I like to walk, so that’s not something I would do on purpose, but it’s great for anyone who is disabled or ill.
@Craeft I have never played Ingress so I can't comment on that but PoGo definitely has a speed limit. I'm finding that HPWU is a slightly higher limit.
They all had speed limits, but it wasn't 10. It was more reasonable for those who like to bike ride.
PoGo is about 20km/h. HPWU registers distance for me to about 25km/h
If I play when my husband is driving, none of that counts. But good to know I can walk laps and have that add up. Thanks!
It doesn't seem to matter if I'm walking or driving it doesn't seem to count anything for me!Does anyone know if there is a way to fix this?
If your avatar moves on the Map, the distance will definitely get counted... ( speed should not be more than 12 Km.. lol)
Same here. Very frustrating. I just walked over 3 miles and none of the distance was counted. I'm on a Note 9. I hope someone fixes this.
I have noticed a lag in registering my distance, but it eventually catches up and all my km walked get added appropriately. It might take 10-15 minutes, but it all shows up eventually. LOL
I've noticed the Portkey distance only updates after interacting with something on the map (picking up items, encountering a confoundable, visiting a building).
I've had trouble here and in pogo with walking registering. But as said above, it usually takes interacting with something every so often. However if I interacted with everything it stops registering my distance. It's very finicky.
