So in the activity page, I see that we have a new admin and we have some new people who joined and that's cool... but it's written partially in English, partially in (I think) Japanese, and partially in (I think) Korean.

Lol! Maybe that’s their language to help anyone who comes here with those languages...? Like the spanish speakers?🤷🏼‍♀️

But Harry Potter is written in English... Why wouldn't they just use it.

Only kidding. I hope they put a translator app in the forum so we can communicate somewhat back and forth regardless of what language we use.

@CytopeAchen FFXIV has a very interesting mechanic in regards to "translation".

You can "chat" as you would do there... but you can also use predefined Phrases that are automaticly translated into the language of the reader's client - and the game supports German, English, French and Japanese. As far as I know, they have over 600 phrases

My wife is the final fantasy guru in my family, I was always more of a Nintendo kid. That's a neat concept to include prewritten phrases in addition to a translator, I can think of a few games where that would be nice. Thank you for the info @Lucoire!

Curiosity, how well did their translator work? The last few I've used have been extremely choppy and require simple statements and questions or it'll mess up.

Perhaps I misspoke. It's not the POSTS in the activity thread that are in random languages, it's the notification part (sometimes 3 or 4 languages per notification).

    e.g.:

    wakaba wasさんはAdministratorに昇格しました。

Shouldn't that part always be user set default language?

Some notifications are fine. Some are as above.

Actually @Craeft, I think that’s miss translated already or partially translated. I speak/read a little Japanese, and that first part says “san ha” which makes me think it was meant to accompany the wakaba part. So I think it’s saying wakaba-san is an administrator?

I can’t read the kanji, but I know the end reads as “shinashita”. So part of the phrase is translated which is weird. So maybe the forum is trying to translate things but can’t work with kanji.

If a Japanese speaker sees this, sorry if I got things wrong! I tried my best, haha.

@JulieJubz - Yeah. I ran it through the "page translation" and it's saying "Wakaba was promoted to Administrator." But it's just weird that it shows up in Japanese when my default setting is English and that's a notification (not a post).

Note: I'm not complaining at all. I just found it interesting and don't know if that's "working as intended" or not. :)

If it’s written that way, wouldn’t it stay that way? Mine’s in english, but people are writing in spanish, and recently russian? and another eastern european language. So when I saw that notification, I assumed it’s an admin who will be using that language... but who knows.

I dunno, @Dogoutlaw - that's kinda the thing. Usually when you select a language, any official notices are sent in that language. And that would be considered an official notice as it's bot-generated from the site, itself.

Oh, didn’t think about bot generated. I see where you’re going now. @Craeft interesting

Seems there's quite a lot of mixing with the Japanese forums, I've had that same thing happen to me before and now I sometimes also end up in the actual Japanese forums when I press best of. It's kind of fun :)

I noticed that too! Snd just thought that's cool- they've started putting it in the language appropriate to the player too. I got the general gist of it lol. Will be interesting to see if it's a deliberate change or was a translation glitch. Probably that tho.

And go u @JulieJubz with the languages! Ive heard they are difficult to master.

@AuroraKadavra If only we could all take like 3 years to live in the countries of which languages we wanna learn. I'd finally have Spanish and Japanese down, for real 😅

Seems you have discovered our awesome teammates in Japan! Harry Potter: Wizards Unite has a Japanese Community as well. We share the same website, and you will often see their posts on the 'Best Of' and 'Activity' pages. It's pretty cool to see what foundables people are chatting about on the other side of the world 😁
