You can change your friend code! In the friend window press the circular arrow next to your friend code and read the instructions to make the change.
Choose your friends carefully, there are dark wizards about.

So far I'm ok with the friends I have. I just wish there was a better way to find local players so I can have help in some of the fortress, not to mention help out
@J4F0 two options, besides searching here, come to mind, introducing yourself at inns and fortresses where people are active and looking for a local Facebook group.
When local events start happening you will get a chance to interact with more local people.
Nobody ever seems to be at the local inns and fortresses when I'm there and I've only found 3 or 4 others on another site that posted to be near the town near .
I wanted to edit(but it won't let me) to say those are great suggestions and I will look for FB and other groups for my area. My area just happens to cover a number of local counties so it's quite large with a spread out population so I think that makes it harder, unfortunately.
Since it is a university town, I will hopefully see more players as students come back into town.
I am lost on the friends code. What is it for? The only other Niantic game I play is Ingress so I am clueless.
@GLENUENDO it's a numerical code used to associate your account with someone else's. Other than seeing their level and the last thing they captured, I don't see much else. Maybe in the future, but that just speculation.
If you click on their banner (in your friends list), it opens up their profile, @RussellFaraday
You also get XP bonuses for battling with friends in fortresses.
I created a local Facebook group for the two counties I play in and pinned this post at the top "Please include number that can be copied and pasted, your name in the game and which county you primarily play in." I think it'll be helpful as the game progresses.
Im only adding people I meet locally. With a limited capacity of only 200 friends and the bonus you get to Challenge Family XP, you will want to make sure you only have locals in the long run.
