Interesting use of quotes. So, tell me about this alleged "moon" in the "sky".
Just playing. I agree with you that it'd be cool to see the family rank continue to grow. Capping it doesn't appear to serve any real purpose that I can think of.
first one i hit on was oddities, second one was brilliant back to hogwarts.
now all my regular registry families are at 65*, last to go was legends of hogwarts.
i spent all my oddities runes to nothing hunting centaur bows since i have hit 65*, i am currently holding well over 65 oddities runes - so my oddities family is for sure way more then double max rank. no way of telling for sure what it would be though.
my challenges rank is 121 and climbing, and it keeps taking more to fill it every rank. if max rank of 65 is what keeps the regular registry families from increasing in rank points to level each time you rank up, then i am good with it.
need those family runes for bad, so being only 100 points to rank and get another rune (compared to the over 3,000 points it takes to rank challenges...) is fine by me.
grant you, there are ways to increase the challenges points you can get when you get them - especially by teaming up with other wizards, it is not an apples to apples comparison - but, just something to think about.
I agree with your general thoughts on the matter @Digitalis, but max level and max XP requirement to level up have nothing to do with each other when it comes to exploration family rank.
The max Challenge rank and max Challenge XP requirement cap out together at 150/3770. In the exploration family registry however, the XP requirement caps out at 100 once you reach level 10 on any particular family.
That said, it seems clear that the cap at 65 in exploration family rank isn't what prevents the XP requirement from continuing to grow. Otherwise, the XP requirement would have kept growing until we reached level 65 for each family, capping out at 650.
If the exploration family rank worked the same as challenge rank, I would understand the point of the cap. It doesn't though, so there really doesn't seem to be any point at all.
