Dragon Event was terrible

There's no indication of when the event was going on in game. It occurred in the middle of another event. It was described terribly.

As far as I can tell the event was solely an excuse for Niantic to sell incubators to unsuspecting players. Nothing else, just a useless cash grab.

I enjoyed both events, especially the dragon eggs, but agree that the overlap timing seemed poorly planned. The dragon egg event could have been better communicated in game on the event page.

I like that the brilliant event had an indicator on the map with a countdown. I expected a second indicator for the Dragon Egg event. On my IPhone 8, the first indicator disappeared when the second event started. Yet on my wizard wifeys' IPhone XR, she still had the first indicator from the brilliant event. Something else for the folks in the back room to work on. Now that the dragon event is over, my indicator is still missing. Bring the indicators back I say, love that feature.

I would suggest setting up a twitter account to follow @HPWizardsUnite via mobile alert or email, whichever you prefer and think of it as part of the game.

Much of the in game notification system is poorly implemented at this time, e.g. dialogs that you dismiss too quickly and can't recover. I think if you just follow the twitter stream you will be in the loop.

It isn't good practice to rely on various external media/outlets to give players what should be basic, easily available info in-game.

I don't follow the Facebook page, and only found this website when searching for information about potions.

It took a third-party website before I discovered what Master Notes were and where to Access them. I should not have had to leave the game. It should have come up earlier in the SOS tasks, but also should have been on thé potions page.

It is worse for events as the info appears in-game for some, but for the dragons it was sudden. (As someone without a chance to go to the fan event, I had no inventive to look at what would happen there, and would instead have gotten rid of the event ticket button if I could.)

But then, if the info was available, why buy the official guide, right?

@DubiousAffairs I hear you and respect your viewpoint. Parts of me feel the same way about features I wish we had in game that just are not going to happen anytime soon. These third party solutions like chat and unofficial user guides are unfortunately a necessary evil at this time. But then there is no such thing as enough data, so on official guides I have a different perspective.

A lot of games for some time now haven't come with guides of any kind (initially) like in the ole days. One of the aspects I love about games today is the unknown factor. Guides today are player generated and I really like that. I like that players are tasked with immersing themselves into an environment and encouraged to discover the ins and outs of a game on their own, and then sharing their experiences with the community. I imagine there is more data being generated with this model that you could ever have with official guides alone. 🙂

ok that was weird. I replied to @DubiousAffairs 's comment above and it got posted. Then I made a quick edit, added a 'space' I did, and the post got flagged for approval. Go figure. Incoming.

Edit: Hope it didn't go poof! Not showing up in my drafts...

Nah, same thing has happened to several of us @ZookiTabooki. Comment posts successfully but a simple edit to fix punctuation or spelling flags it for approval. I believe this is the flood control mechanism at work. If you notice something and need to make an edit, wait at least 30 seconds after the last post or edit.

@Acumen That's exactly what I reasoned, edited too fast. I think that might part of the issue @Craeft is having with his flags.

I just received notice in game that all the bonuses were unlocked starting at 10 AM today until Sept 9. I’m wondering if those are all of the egg bonuses listed for each dragon egg. I don’t use Twitter and rarely go on Facebook. I’m rather stubborn about being pushed to do so.

@LeFayeofAlbion I don’t see any dragons. It’s just the bonuses that the dragon eggs were tied to. 25% more xp, 1/2 brewing time, etc.

It’s happening? I haven’t seen a boost in bonus yet!

Yes, started about 2.5 hours ago. Maybe close and restart app if you’re not seeing it. Mine gave a pop up message to say it was starting.

@LeFayeofAlbion I did see that Brilliant Foundables do not get the XP boost, others do. No XP boost on fortresses also. Apparently potions in line before 10 AM not brewing faster but new ones added are supposed to get the 1/2 time. I haven’t started a new portmanteau yet to see the faster hatch time hit.

@HypnoTraveler I was in a flagged area and only came across 1 brilliant foundable in that time. I just returned a ministry official, still no boost.

@LeFayeofAlbion are you expecting to see a “+25% bonus” when it summarizes rewards? It doesn’t do that if that’s what you’re looking for. It appears to just be a higher base xp amount when it’s showing your rewards. If that makes sense? Lol someone might be able to explain better!!

@Dogoutlaw I started getting the boost only this morning. Nearly 10 hours after it supposedly started.

I do not agree. I went to Indianapolis. It was a awesome event.

You did not have to buy " keys"

I find that the news articles from the site are very useful. I pulled a few highlights I thought were important. The main article can be found here on the sight.

"After the event concluded, the four species of Dragons returned home to their native regions, where they'll be encountered by players as Oddities starting September 7.

    • Oceania: Antipodean Opaleye
    • Asia, the Middle East and India: Chinese Fireball
    • Americas and Greenland: Peruvian Vipertooth
    • Europe and Africa: Welsh Green

"In addition to assisting Charlie with the surge of Dragon activity at the event, attendees also had the opportunity to help unlock special rewards for other players around the world. By returning over 500 thousand Dragons during the event, attendees unlocked Day of the Dragons, a special 3-hour event that will take place globally on September 7 at the following times:

    • Asia-Pacific: September 7, from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. AEST (UTC +10)
    • Europe, the Middle East, Africa and India: September 7, from 10:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. UTC
    • Americas and Greenland: September 7, from 11:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. PDT (UTC -7)

"During this special in-game event, players around the world will have a limited-time opportunity to encounter one of the other Dragon species! To determine which additional Dragon would appear in each region during the Day of the Dragons event, players worldwide participated in the Harry Potter: Wizards Unite Fan Festival Global Challenge where they collected Dragon Eggs. After tallying the total number of Dragon Eggs that were returned for each of the four breeds, we're excited to announce that the following Dragons will be making a special appearance during the 3-hour event:

    • Oceania: Chinese Fireball
    • Asia, the Middle East and India: Antipodean Opaleye
    • Americas and Greenland: Chinese Fireball
    • Europe and Africa: Chinese Fireball

"In addition to determining which Dragon would appear during Day of the Dragons, players were able to unlock the following rewards by collecting over one million Dragon Eggs of each type during the Global Challenge:

    • 25% Wizarding XP Bonus
    • ½ Portmanteau Walk Distance
    • ½ Potion Brewing Time
    • 2x Dark Detector Duration

"These rewards will begin at 10 A.M. PDT on September 2 and last until September 9 at 10 A.M. PDT, so make sure to take advantage of them before time runs out!"

    Hope this helps!

From what I've gathered, the Brilliant button on the home screen didn't disappear until I completed task 4/4. Same for my wife's account.

For those of us not in Indianapolis, we had to purchase keys to hatch 16 one K eggs. Those in Indy got to catch the eggs.

I agree that the in-game notifications are terrible as far as keeping you informed about events.

I also noticed with this half distance portkey that if it looks like it didn't work, back out one page and go back into the Portkey page and half the distance should credit. It processes very differently than Pokemon Go's distance deals.

@Buckmaster13 Thank you for that clarification. I noticed the brilliant button had disappeared from my screen but didn't tie that to completing the event. I would have preferred the button remained until the event was over, regardless of whether a player has completed the event.

I also think a second button should have been displayed to designate the dragon egg event over the weekend and the current bonuses being applied over the next week as a result of that event. I see a lot of confusion about lack of information for these events. This event button mechanic properly implemented could alleviate some of that by linking to the right info, perhaps to our forum community.

@ZookiTabooki as a proponent of less clutter on the screen, I'm shocked you think the event button should have stayed! LOL I was thrilled when the event button disappeared when I completed the event tasks. To each their own I guess. LOL

I liked the event button during the event, because it helped remind me the event was still going. However, I’m also glad it disappeared once I finished the task.

If it had still been there I would have clicked it every time I opened the game because I would be scared something new had popped up. So I think it should disappear once completed. However, not until then.

Its not just the evemts that pop up randomly. I CONSTANTLY have to check for an update for this game. The last one said I didnt have enough room for it all, yet I have no extra apps but messenger so I can talk to my family across seas........

@Overflow4487 This event came with the opportunity to grab many scrolls from the Brilliant foundables. But at times, I found myself in places without any special even traces, for over an hour, and went to the Achievements page to check if it had ended, or how long remained. A clear in-app way to show that an event is ongoing should be there. We follow the forums, but not everyone does.

Considering that the games goes for "immersion", hiding the top bar (clock, battery, etc), we shouldn't have to break said immersion by entirely leaving the app to find information.

We know there is a flying owl model that can appear on the map, and memos too, what about also having some of those fly around our avatar when there is a notification ? (And a way to reach an archive of those, please)

@Dogoutlaw I agree with less clutter, but there are some exceptions. I really liked I could tell exactly how much time was left on the event. I suppose it's ok to remove it once completed, but I liked being reminded the event was still on, so I could remind myself not to pick up any more 3km portmanteaus as the event was winding down.
