I live in San Diego and am currently vacationing in Hawaii and have yet to see a horned serpent.

So, maybe the ocean doesn’t count as water in the fams? I only found out about the horned serpents because I was looking to see if there were any water specific Foundables!

I’ve only seen two fragments when I was up in the mountains for a couple of days. I have seen none since I came back. I have zero bodies of water near me in this polluted mess of a city.

It may be related to water, but that's not the only factor. Although there is a pond in my town, I regularly see serpents all over, even miles from any significant body of water. They are definitely most common during dusk, but will occasionally show up during dawn as well.

We're surrounded by huge bodies of water over here and yesterday I had my first serpent in a month.

@MtPollux I would have to agree. I have seen tons of horned serpents but only at dusk. I have never seen them at any other time of day.

I’ve walked around the Harbor at Dusk quite a few times with no Horned Serpents encountered yet, but not in the rain. I’m in Southern California.

When the game first launched I saw some in Loveland after dusk, but I've been told that they're in wizard challenges now.

Horned Serpents only appear during and shortly after rain, and are more likely during Dusk and Night than other times of day. Unfortunately, this means that players in arid areas will almost never see them.

@Ravenclaw78 This is not true in my experience. I see horned serpents in all weather conditions and see them any time between dusk and dawn. Day is the only time I don’t see them. I saw 2 on my way to campus this morning and we haven’t had any rain. I’m in Birmingham, AL for reference.

I didn't see any link between water and Horned Serpents, at least nothing significant. I have seen quite a few of them in the past few months, while it only rained half a dozen times. A good third of those times was downtown, not particularly near water.

It's different for everyone, @Ravenclaw78, and region plays a major part. My experience is similar to yours though. I only see them when the in-app weather says it's raining during dawn, dusk, and night hours. This appears to be the case for anyone in the southwestern US. Folks in several northern states seem to have no issues spotting them regardless of weather, and even with no large bodies of water nearby. I've seen posts from players in western India stating that they see lots of horned serpents even when it is hot and dry outside. In some areas, the weather conditions have to be just right, but in other areas it doesn't seem to matter.

Apparentky, according to the Wizards Unite guide book released yesterday, the first oddity page has oddities that are particular to time if the month and the second oddity page is particular to time of day. It hasn’t helped me, but perhaps it’ll help others.

I'm in Las Vegas (hot as heck these days) and have yet to see one. I out at dawn every morning. I am heading out for our walk now and hope we can catch sight of one at dusk today.

    Good Luck Witches & Wizards!

@Herm10neG92 @Acumen Weird! I'm located in Maryland, which (believe it or not) is technically a temperate rainforest, but had the same results while in Florida (Orlando and St. Augustine) last month. I didn't realize there was quite that much variation between states. At least they're easier to find than doxies. One hour before dawn on the 3rd Tuesday of every other month, but only if the Thursday of that week is a full moon? (OK, they're not QUITE that rare, but they're ridiculously hard to find.)

Thanks for the heads up on the Wizards Unite guide book @LeFayeofAlbion , I had no idea one was released. Just ordered mines from Amazon a moment ago. Can't wait to read it.

I’ve seen them at dusk & dawn, but they do appear to “cycle.” Once I see one, I see a bunch. I see them most frequently at cemeteries. I literally got every one I needed for the page in under an hour at a cemetery at dusk. They were spawning like crazy there.

We have an abundance of them in Iowa.

So the past few days I've seen many at dusk, a few at dawn and a fair bit at night (enough to fill my page). It has been off and on rainy and coolish. In the PNW, btw.

Are leprechauns supposed to be crepuscular as well? I've suddenly caught a few over the past few mornings and I usually only see them at dusk.?

  • AcumenAcumen Posts: 1,102 ✭✭✭✭✭

I've seen many more leprechauns than usual both at morning and dusk the last couple days, @Bormacska. It's not unusual for me to spot them at both times, but not usually in such abundance. I haven't paid close enough attention to spot a pattern, but it may be that they spawn more often in the days leading up to a full moon, just before the werewolves come out to play.

I've seen 110 horned serpents so far. Feel welcome to come out and join us here in ne Ohio. I see them frequently at dusk and sometimes a couple at dawn. I am not really in a city and tend to go out to our nature reservation. Perhaps they spawn more frequently in lower density areas as well. Even in low density areas there are places with higher spawn concentrations. If I'm looking for oddities that's where I go.

Have you tried waneka lake (lafayette)? I've found one in broomfield near my house and one near waneka lake. The others I got right along the river at the festival in indy. Hard to tell if water related... I've also read a theory online that it spawns in places with higher annual rainfall. According to this theory, broomfield is on the bubble (cutoff at 20" annually) boulder is above the level, denver is below. I've also found one in steamboat springs, the very first weekend the game first came out, also along the river. Good Luck. Please post back any places you find them ;)

Maybe it increases if your location has had some rainy weather in the day. That was the case today for me and I saw a few of the horned serpents when I was out.
