There is no such thing as "Chinese Fire Dragons"
Hello,
Chinese Dragons, and Asian Dragons for that matter, breathes and commands water, snow, ice, lighting, and the weather. "Fire Dragons" is a Western concept not Chinese, not Asian.
You better have a convincing "lore" why there is a Chinese/Asian Dragon that breathes and commands fire. I doubt J.K. Rowling will make this mistake or will just leave it without any explanation.
One more thing, Chinese/Asian dragon myths are far older and ancient than your Western Dragon mythologies. Ours are more powerful and intelligent than yours.

Wow.
@Yasheo Not sure if you ever read the books... or watched the movies... but the Chinese Fireball is definitely mentioned in Goblet of Fire. I'll just leave this here.

It sounds like you’re referring to muggle lore, not wizard lore...
Speaking as a foreigner, I understand that sometimes Rowling choose certain "foreign aspects" without putting as much care into them as she did with the European and American lore *cough*castelo bruxo*cough*
...but that being said, the books are fantasy. They have a contemporary feel to them because of the muggle world, but they are in fact fantasy. So what she chooses to add to the world is up to her imagination and her imagination alone. The Chinese fireball exists because she wrote them in. That's it.
But that doesn't take away the fact that your comment came across as very condescending @Yasheo...
PS: @Dogoutlaw brilliant!
HP dragons based on JKR's dragon, they aren't based on our dragon. As asian dragon could be different based on which part of Asian culture.
In my culture, dragon was seen as protector, often described with no wings or feet, and was wearing crown on it's head.
JKR had her own universe that defy any other.
This whole thread cracked me up.
"But come on everyone, why aren't these imaginary beasts in this imaginary world anything like those imaginary beasts in that other imaginary world?"
I understand where you're coming from @Yasheo, but it's still funny.
@Ve225 that's super interesting! Love hearing more about it :D
@JulieJubz you can read it online.
I am sure what @Yasheo meant was Japanese dragon. As for Chinese dragons i knew some of them could breath fire. Based on Chinese folklore dragons is seen as deities. There was one tv shows that i liked when i was young that had some dragons in it. It's called Journey to the west, it was by Hong Kong tv production.
If you saw dragon ball anime you could see that the dragon was some kind of deity of the underworld.
@Ve225 Yes! Big Dragon Ball fan over here. Shenron is the dragon in the Dragon Ball series and he’s amazing! He granted their wishes and had power to disperse the actual dragon balls. The name I think is derived from a term meaning “Divine Dragon” or “Dragon God.” Porunga is another one of the dragons in the series, though he’s on Namek.
Definitely just nerded out but what can I say, I get excited about dragons 🤷🏼♀️ 🐉
@Herm10neG92 haha dragons are awesome. Though i am not dragon ball hard core fans but i watched it when i was in grade school, bu i'd forgotten most of the names. Shame on me!
@Ve225 oh yeah totally. I just meant that it's really cool to hear about all the differences. I work with comic books, and journey to the west is a huge one. There's been so many versions of that story now.
Dragons are amazing, and their lore is just so incredible. @Herm10neG92 Dragon Ball was the best. I actually haven't watched the new version of Z (sans filler episodes!! Finally). But that show still holds a super dear place in my heart. Honestly, anime is the reason why I work with comics, aside from a few other things. But I'm more into shoujo 😆
