Magizoology Combat Lessons

When the next round of Profession Lessons are released, I request that Magizoologists get lessons/skills that help them be more independent. Specifically: I want a way to be able to Confound my foes.

Magizoologists’ skills can be replaced (to some extent) by Healing Potions, Wit Sharpening Potions, Mending Charm, and Shield. It means that Aurors and Professors don’t rely on Magizoologists in the way that we rely on them. In particular, I’m tired of wasting time, potions, and spell energy on 5-star Erklings because I’m partnered with Aurors that don’t use their Confusion Hex. Over and over again, I find myself in battles with A & P that only hex/charm to benefit themselves, or not at all.

Yes, I could try to match up on Discord, but sometimes you just want to do a quick battle, not invest in finding a party on a particular bus.

I know that the people that take the time to be present on this Forum are likely not the ones hoarding their Focus. In an ideal world, most of the players would take the time to learn how the professions intertwine and learn how to help each other (or there would be in-game training to help them understand). But, more often than not, I find myself in challenges with a team of players that don’t use their skills or use them only to benefit themselves. It’s almost more frustrating now with the ability to see people’s training levels because I’ve learned that you can be maxed in your profession and still not know how to be a team player in a fortress.

Bottom line: A & P have means of adjusting when they don’t have an M or are partnered with a subpar M. But Ms just don’t have that same luxury.

I'm reasonably happy with how a Magizoolgist plays in group battles in high tier chambers; where I see room for improvement is when either playing alone and/or in lower tier chambers (which is what happens way more often these days).

The problem is that there Magizoolgists have nothing interesting to do with their focus, so they are not too exciting to play. Anything to buff , damage or debuff would be welcome there...

Agree, most magizoo spells are replaceable with potions. And the SOS training about potions improvements (while its good) its also making magizoo seems obsolete.

@HalloMami, exactly! As a Magizoo, so many of our skills are variations on the same theme. I love being one, but a little variety would be nice. And if we’re getting variety, I want something that doesn’t make me dread a 5-star Erkling when I’m teamed with people that don’t share their hexes.

I see where you are coming from, though I am hesitant to suggest hexes for magizoologists - I believe each profession plays a very different role and too much overlap would negate the need for team play. I play all three professions and adore the different experiences.

By your reasoning, potent potions are the equivalent of weakening and det hex, and invigs are similar to passing focus, so the only game changer that can't be recreated is confusion.

Hi @Magpie31 , I agree. I LOVE that each profession has a strong suit and I love the team play. When a team really works together, it’s, well... magical. However, I consistently get paired with Aurors that don’t use their Confusion Hex and that costs me resources and frustration - like my DV battle this morning: 3 maxed out Aurors that didn’t confuse a single 4- or 5- star Erkling (at least 5 of the foes). What are they doing with all of that Focus?!

Like you said, just about everything else has a back up plan. Which means I’d like a back up plan for this as well. I’m not saying Magis should necessarily have a hex. A charm that cloaks them or in some other way confuses their foes would be nice. Maybe like a shield charm, but a confusion variety that Magis could apply to themselves and their teammates. How great would it be for a Magi to be able to add a Charm of Invisibility to an Auror so they can fight a 5-Star Pixie in an off-balance battle?

I’d even be happy with a potion that has the same effect; perhaps a variant on Giggle Water. I’d just appreciate something that gives us a backup plan for those Aurors unwilling or unable to use their hex.

Unless, of course, they’re going to add in-game combat training for those who haven’t looked elsewhere or in-combat communication that allows us to request charms/hexes/Focus...

Each profession has it's own niche, it's own role... and it's own fantasy attached to it. But for that all to work, that niche/role/fantasy needs to be clearly defined. Once the lines are blurred, the magic that makes them unique is gone.

Potions serve a purpose that's different than a charm - again clearly defined difference.

What I could imagine though would be poisons that you could craft to throw at enemies - like a "Poison of liquid Fire" that makes the Enemy take 30 additional damage for every action they take (attacking / defending) for 3 turns, or a "Sticky-Web-Poison" that slows the Movement of an Enemy and increases the chance that they skip their next 2 attacking-turns (or turn their tripple-attack into a single-attack).

@SeaChle i played for 14 months as a Magizoo and last week I dumped some of my book-hoard into Auror and maxed it out. While I love playing as a Magizoo the Auror is definitely easier in fortress battles when it comes to how much spell energy you need to defeat foes and is also spell energy friendly with oddities. Since March SE is always an issue for me so I am sticking with Auror for a while. The Magizoo is the healer and a tank of stamina but has no ability to assist in hexing and weakening foes. So I completely agree with everything you stated in your original post. Perhaps next year on the 2nd year anniversary they will come out with a hex that Magizoo’s can cast in fortress battles. If you have the ability and stash of scrolls and spell books I would recommend checking out the Auror. It gives you so much appreciation for the different professions.

@ClairabusGryff me too LOL. As mainly magiz. When i want to do solo run fortress to get fragment i always change to auror.

Also in traces, when encounter oddities before casting traces charm i change to auror first to save time capturing them.

i didn’t know you were a auror also @Kodokmag !! How long have you been an auror?

Just a couple of months i think, after knight bus and SE spawns on map. Not maxed auror yet (because also put my RSB on professor). Only left 2 lessons (1 defense up specialization and 1 bat boogey) just enough for damage/power so wouldnt use it for high chamber fortress.

@ClairabusGryff , I hear ya! I’ve been hoarding scrolls and books hoping for the next set of lesson plans so I can grow as an M. My husband and I often play together - he was an A and switched over to P and loves it. My stepdaughter sometimes joins us and she’s a mid-level A. I’m the only M in our little pod, and I love being an M. But, we all travel for work, so I like hopping on the KB to play with other teams when I can’t be with my people.

I’m stubbornly holding out for more M lessons, but I’m not sure how much longer I’ll hold out. Both A and P are looking really tempting and I think I have enough resources hoarded to max out a second profession. It gets a little old always being an M:

    1. Here, have a wee bit of stamina
    2. Here, have some more stamina
    3. Here, have ALL OF THE STAMINA

I’m hoping for a little variety on that front at some point!

@Lucoire , poisons could be fun!

@SeaChle i totally get what you are saying!! I hoarded first a long time and can tell you that sinking those resources into Auror was the best decision I have made in a long time. The Auror needs 115 restricted section books and I can’t recall how many scrolls but I still have plenty left. When you are with your family you can switch back to Magizoo but when you are by yourself play Auror. If you decide to go that route let me know, I am happy to help guide you and share my knowledge!!

Thanks, @ClairabusGryff ! I might do it soon. I have 109 RSBs now and a pile of >12,000 scrolls. I’ve already taken 100 of the Auror lessons (had to get that Achievement!). I’m not sure how many lessons I took that used RSBs, so either I’d have enough resources to max out immediately or be darn close to it.

@SeaChle you probably have already put some RSB’s into Auror so you maybe only a few books short of completing it. Compared to the new SOS skull tree it is a really small tree! Let me know!! I am rooting for you!!

@ClairabusGryff You can do the 100 lesson achievement on auror without RSBs. I did it while I was working on magi (before I seriously started auror).

@SeaChle omg. You made me laugh. "Have a wee bit of stamina" have some more. Take it all. You summed it up brilliantly 😂
