Why is there not a node in the SOS that increases oddity damage by 4? Seems like this would have been the ideal way to address the oddity imbalance for professors.
Name it “Whoops” - Do to an oversight your damage vs Oddities has been increased by 4.
There should be an SOS skill that's proficiency power for oddities, which goes up to 300%, thus allowing all professions to one shot all oddities. Oddities cease to be a challenge around level 30, requiring anything beyond the first hit is just an annoyance tax.
But then they would also have to give Professors extra Restricted Section Books, to make up for the imbalance in costs to Master Professor as well.
The game was originally advertised as if you would be able to change professions at will, but the introduction of RSB near the end of Beta eliminated that as a possibility; since they are limited to event rewards.
A simple option would be to give us a proficiency power vs oddities skill that goes up to 300% so that everybody can one shot all oddities. Oddities cease to be challenging around level 30 or so, and are only going to defeat someone who sets their phone down and allows themselves to be hit many times. Absent any real chance of failure, allowing oddities to hit back is just an annoyance tax that affects professions disproportionately.
Alternatively, all professions could receive skills that add up to a total of 150 power against oddities. Then add a MZ and Prof skill granting first strike party with aurors (70% crit chance). Finally, create an additional skill for all professions that guarantees they get two attacks before an oddity can strike back. Thus all professions would effectively peak at a 70% chance to 1 shot all oddities, and the ability to finish them with a second strike before any time wasting counter-attacks occur.
Professors have to do 4 hits to take down a three headed dog. I am often concerned that I will not be able to return all of the traces after using my trace charm!
So totally understand the feeling behind the request. They did increase base damage from 79 to 96, but effectively that didn't reduce the number of attacks to take down three headed dog, azkaban escapee or death Eater!
There is no justice for professors in the wizarding world!
@rocketj No word at all. I have long thought that Oddities were going to be very problematic for WB to address as they are based on Professions and not generalized like traces. I imagined that the problem would only get worse if WB attempted to introduce increasingly "challenging" Oddities that might be out of the range of possibility for new players in order to not be pushovers for veteran players.
There is no easy solution for Oddities based on how they were designed. The best solution might be scrapping this entire system and redesigning it.
Regarding "justice" for Professors. I assume some of the angst comes from the increased amount of RSB's that Professors need to advance in the profession. Let's put that aside by assuming that since there are 3 professions and, based on Achievements, 3 proposed spell plans for each profession that in the end, all professions will spend the exact same amount of resources. Professors spend the most RSB's for lesson 1, so it is likely Aurors and Magi will spend more for lessons 2 or 3.
Curiously, both of my previous posts have both been inserted, days after I attempted to make them. Both previous times I tried to post in here, I hit the "Post Comment" button, and my draft vanished, but the post didn't show up. So, if there's some redundancy in my second post, it's because at the time I was making it, I thought my first post had vanished to the mysterious bit bucket in the sky. I'm now making this third post not just to clarify the issue, but also to see whether posting in this topic will work.
It's also farfetched that you can stand there doing nothing and a dragon can attack over and over again, until you finally do take it down in 1 hit 70% of the time as an auror. Remember, it's not a real dragon, it's just a foundable. More generally, let's not get hung up on realism when it comes to anything related to magic, because that's a rabbit hole of absurdity.

As a professor, I'm confused. There's an imbalance?
I can one shot a freak'n dragon with a critical.
Most of the others are one shots as well, at most three.
I think the Azkaban Escapee is the only one that can take a punch.

IMO the "correct" way to address an issue with damage from Professions is in their Profession skills.

Any update on when a new profession tree is coming out to address that @RexHav0c ? This should have been fixed months ago.

That is my thinking at least.
I think its better that oddities supposed to be more easy to get a critical hit, no need for new lesson which is still coming soooon.

I think the idea to make all oddities a one hit is the best that I have seen.
That works for game play, but seems rather far fetched when you one shot a dragon the same way you do a pixie.
Mastery could also be worked into adding damage vs Oddities.
