Incentive
I just played a Tower III level wizard battle. Then I did a Dark Forest III wizard battle. I got pretty much the same rewards for both...all foundables I had already collected. The difference? The Dark Forest challenge blew through sixty points of energy and four potions. What is my incentive to compete in higher level challenges? From what I have experienced, there really is no need to go beyond Remains V...

@Danger64 the higher fortress chambers award more wxp, more cxp, more chance of a fortress foundable and different challenge foundables.
ruins 1 will give 10cxp solo, dark 5 with a team of 5 will give 2430 cxp
ruins 1 will give 64 wxp dark 5 will give 1224wxp (more if you do with friends)
ruins 1 give a 50% chance of a fortress foundable, dark 5 gives a 100% chance
if you want to fill out your challenge registry you will also need to do all chambers as certain ones will give certain foundables
if you are doing dark 5 with a balanced team of 5, you can easily do it with far less energy than you are using and no potions
@Danger64 the runestone that you choose for a chamber is what influences the foundables you get for the exploration registry. So if you used the same runestone in tower III vs Dark III, there is a chance for you to get the same exploration family foundables. However the chamber you choose in a fortress influences what foundables you can get for your challenges registry pages, the amount of wizarding xp awarded and the amount of xp awarded towards increase your level. Playing in a team also increases the xp you get.
Hopefully this helps explain the differences a bit.
