Justice for Professors!..
I want to bring to the attention of all readers of this blog, to the fact that as per the new Announcement, the new SOS skills would require the DADA books and the Restricted section (Green) books in order to complete.
I want to highlight and ask, why the Professor profession is being treated so poorly in this matter.
Let me explain, The initial skill tree required Aurora to use a lot of Red Books, Profs to use a lot of Green books and Magizoo to have a balance both. So the utilization of resources is somewhat even (although Red books can be hoarded, green can't, thereby limiting Professors).
Now the latest upgrade in the game is going to make use of a resource that will be particularly low with one Profession.. Professors!.. Wherein the other professions don't really have to suffer any negative consequence of the new structure.
Hence I must ask.. why are the professors being targeted?.. They are generally weak in Fortresses, their powerful spell, Deterioration Hex gets nerfed. They need to attack curiosity foundables like vampires and warewolves twice in place of a single strike for others.. thereby using energy more.
Their key resource being locked in with Niantic and only available when they wish it to be.. unable to grind for it..
And now being used up again for something new coming in the game.
Why the hate against one profession?.. If you understand and agree with what I say, please highlight it to Niantic.

should you not wait to see what the new costs will actually involve first? How many RSB's are actually going to be needed? Will more RSB's be given in events? Better to wait till you have all the facts first
Although I personally prefer to know the outcome before passing a judgement, however my intention here is merely to bring to Niantic's attention a possible flaw in the rollout they will do, cause once the rollout is done.. there is no going back. And the profession already does suffer from so many drawbacks.
If the above mentioned scenarios never come to pass I will be the happiest. But in order to ensure the same, I would like the WU executives to see the concern highlighted and take the same into consideration while rolling out the new updates. Ensure Balance exists in the game.
As a nearly maxed out professor, I see what you mean. It's frustrating only getting to level up profession only every brilliant event because of this, but I'm gonna wait and see before getting discouraged. I'm kind of hoping these skills use less RSBs than the profession tree. Maybe wishful thinking but fingers crossed lol
A year ago the bets players were complaining at the perceived injustice with green book and red book balance changing, it blew over
I was not part of the beta testing but quickly felt the number of scrolls was restrictive, now like many I have over 10,000 gathering dust, again, it blew over
And 168 green books, 669 red books, now 5 DADA books
My point is - the game evolves whether we like the new direction or not. One of my friends spent all her red books pursuing new professions but only time will tell whether she did the right thing (with hindsight) or not. Likewise, I choose to fortress whereas another friend doesn’t. One of will have an advantage as changes are made to WU, it’s just not clear which one of us it is!
the SOS lessons, arent they only using: ministry manual, Field Guide and DADA books? like presented in the screen **** by HPWULola
i think green book and red book are still on the profession lesson

😱, Must been skip read. LoL
I just saw the screensho ot and only show the 3 new books.
So, twe need green book to unlock them and only the 3 new book to upgrade?
Maybe? 😬
It is a little unbalanced, but we have now had enough restricted books to max professor plus one other profession plus be almost there with the third, if we have beene playing since the beginning. So although an imbalance for newer professors, it is not a huge imbalance for veteran professors.
@OriginalCaruso I have invested all my books (red and green) into the three professions. I don't agree that this friend will find it an objectively right or wrong decision. Personally, I really enjoy fortressing and I enjoy playing the different professions according to the team I have available. It was a good decision for me. At the end of the day, red books and scrolls are unlimited, green books are time gated but still available... Hardly a wrong decision. It may get to a point where I am a lot further behind others if new lessons get released, because I went wide rather than deep, but I am ultimately happy with that decision.
I disagree with the approach that one gets used to it. It doesn't really address the fact that the game becomes objectively harder for one Profession over the others.
And it's especially unfair towards those who are trying to specialise in that particular profession.
As a fact, A Magizoo could have maxed out his profession and almost maxed out the Auror profession as well and still be at par with someone who has specialised only in Professors as a profession in terms of resources available. (Given that it's easier to grind for Red books these days)
These structures are discouraging for players playing as profs, and am often forced to advise newer players on choosing against it.
I hope WU admins, notify and address this issue for the better balancing of the game.
Completely agreed! The fact that RSBs are limited by the game itself makes it a 'restriction' for profs.
While the official communication says the Dev's want to be fair to old and new players, I would definitely not suggest choosing Prof to any new player as they now have two competing requirements for RSBs in an already messed up skill tree!
Maybe the idea is to balance out the professions by killing old profs and discouraging new profs!
One suggestion would be to allow some inter currency conversion which allows some semblance of balance in the game. Otherwise it is just taking players to the point where they forget the time and love for the wizarding world and invest energy elsewhere.
@Magpie31 - No offence meant. I was simply trying (and failing) to illustrate two different approaches that’s all - there is no “right” or “wrong” and I’m glad you are enjoying the strengths that each profession bring to the game
I may regret hoarding red and green books and follow your example later if the SOS changes don’t flic.k my switch
@OriginalCaruso None taken, just thought it was worth pointing out that there isn't an objectively right or wrong approach - it depends on play style. I have no regrets putting my books into lessons. I am still unsure if I will comolete auror or do the new skills. We shall see.
@Joshv009 give the update and new skill tree a chance at least. It’s very unlikely that the HPWU team will be making any changes to the new currency system this far down the line and just before the release. There possibly might be some tweaks if feedback on the new system isn’t great after the release, once players have been able to get familiar with the new system and skill tree. However, since the skills aren’t live yet and players haven’t been able to give feedback on their experience with the new system, it’s best to give the update a chance first.
@Imaginatio See I understand where you are coming from. I am glad infact that new skill tree is coming to the game. Really looking forward to it.
However we all should know that Niantic doesn't really roll back fundamental features too often. And I would like this post to be a feedback for them to look into and evaluate.
I am not asking people to burn down HPWU, I am asking HPWU to take cognizance of the matter and accordingly develop the game further. As said earlier. If the game balances out and my post becomes redundant. I would be the most Happy!..
For now HPWU please evaluate resource requirement between various professions and balance things out a little.
@Imaginatio I think there's going to have to be a bit of re-adjudication of the amount of the RSB gained since some of the Calamity III spells require 25 RSBs per node. That's a full two part event's worth currently.
TL;DR - based on the first two Calamity books, it looks like the RSBs will only be used to increase the new charms or to increase your General Spell Mastery or Departure Denial percentages. Not all of the nodes that improve the charms, GSM, and DD percentages require RSBs, so professors can get some improvements in these areas with just the newer common currencies (just not as much as others should they decide to invest in those areas). The DADA books likely will be a much bigger limiter on progression than the RSBs.
----------
So, I got bored and looked at the first two sets of Calamity spell books.
In Calamity 1, there are five nodes that require RSBs:
TOTAL = 66 RSBs
That seems like a lot, right? Well ...
Nodes that require DADA books:
TOTAL = 222 DADA books
Do note that with all of these I haven't even mentioned the Field Manuals and Ministry Manuals. Just the nodes listed with RSB or DADA books for Calamity 1 totals 3736 Field Manuals and 442 Ministry Manuals. That ignores all of the other nodes along the way.
Calamity 2 uses more RSBs and DADA books. It's late so I'm not going to do the same breakdown. However, again the RSBs seem mainly focused on enhancing the Trace, Inn, and Greenhouse Charms, with three nodes of General Spell Mastery (The Mordercai Factor, Five Alive? (!!!!) and Mission to St. Mungo's) near the end of the second tree. Each of those nodes has three levels with +30 spell level gained in exchange for 7 RSBs (along with 613 FM and 332 MM). However, there are a lot more DADA books earlier in these trees doing a lot to gate them.
@Joshv009 I understand what you’re trying to say, but I don’t think the profession specific resource requirements are going to change anytime soon.
@Joshv009 @FireWanderer The number of RSBs awarded from events could be adjusted, but no idea if the HPWU team will do that. I guess it depends on how quickly they want players to progress through skills as they control both the RSB books and now DADA books with events. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
I tend to agree with @Imaginatio .
There’s also a chance that if/when the next set of profession lessons comes out, the professors might need less RSBs than the Magis and Aurors. The developers might even out the currency distribution among the professions then.
@Imaginatio I will be curious what the payout and mechanism with DADA books will be. Will the Brilliants focus on RSBs, with the Community Days and Wizarding Weekends concentrating on DADA? Will they split them across all events, but at lower payouts? Guess we'll find out in a couple of days.
@SeaChle If/when the next profession trees come out, it will be curious how many people are willing to pay for the DADA-based nodes that give the potential to pay out Spellbooks in Trunks. If Calamity 1 had been released last December, we'd all be gnashing our teeth to drive down the tree as fast as was humanly possible. Now it might be a little less driven.
@FireWanderer I’m curious to find out as well.
I can only shake my head in sadness. @hpwulola can you save us? :-)
Just sharing these images to illustrate the point (thank you to my magi friend for permission to share his screenshot) - deliberately no potions used in either case. Not statistically significant of course but a sample I thought worth sharing.
