No more "Earn x family XPs", pretty please
So, the recent events all had at least one task of the "Earn x family XPs" type somewhere. I dislike these and think they should be discarded. Not because they are too easy or too hard (after all the proper value for "x" is up for discussion), but because the concept is flawed.
Now, fundamentally the quest is not that different to the "Return y foundables this family" quest (the latter being fine). The main difference is that you mostly earn family XPs by placing images. And I think this is problematic, because
a) the amount of work you need to put into the task varies wildly from player to player, depending on the state of your registry when you get the quest.
You might happen to have a lot of images ready or almost ready on a gold frame page and basically can finish the task with a few clicks. Or, on the other hand, you might not have prestiged the pages in question ever (so placing images doesn't yield much), or - worse - you just happen to have them placed very recently and now need 55 more foundables to place a new image to get some XP so basically you are in for a lot of work.
That latter point irks me in particular because
b) it basically punishes you to for recently progressing in the game (i.e. placing an image shortly before receiving the task).
On the same note, the "Place 3 brillant images in Hagrid's Hut" quest is of similar bad design: You progressed, placed the image and then find out down the line that you would be better off if you wouldn't have done that.
I understand that you want to mix things up by introducing new types of quests, but IMO this is not it...

I completely agree. I am having difficulty finding COMC foundables even when using a combination of tonic and dark detectors. I have also tried using COMC runestones in the fortress. I have used 5 COMC runestones and received 0 COMC xp. It is very frustrating.
Add that to how much harder it is to even win a foundable from a fortress now and capture things. I've been playing since nearly the beginning and have been struggling with that a bunch lately. It's like they wanted you too prestige but now tapping stuff just sets you back and makes it that much harder to do. So irritating😂
I don't understand what you mean, @CBG92. The placement is really useful for players like me who can't prestige. I am now in rainy season, which means it will likely be another 4 or 5 months before I see the last centaur I need to presige my oddities page. This way, I can still benefit feom all the other oddities I see.
@Magpie31 I mean the whole point I thought was to prestige to gold? Not everybody prioritizes that I know and you get points for it of course but to my understanding it's worth more to tap on gold isn't it? I don't know I was just thinking about how rare a lot of the foundables are and the ones that flee after 1-2 tries even with potions. I guess they have to do that though to prolong the game since there are no more levels after 60 from what I've been hearing. I guess I'm just starting to get a bit bored and I haven't even maxed my profession yet so recapturing things a dozen times when I'm still on basic frame doesn't really thrill me anymore, especially since spell energy is so limited. Then again all I lack are RSBs. Doesn't really feel like I'm making progress anymore and I'm a hardcore player
@CBG92 But we are in a better position now.
Option A) You know you won't see X for months and know you see enough Y to fill up that fragment count again. So you cash in your fragmenta and get some xp for it.
Option B) You keep the extra fragments for after you prestige.
Before, once you got max fragments, every trace was a waste. Now you can either replace or carry fragments over. Surely this is an improvement?
After the introduction of the family XP quests I stopped placing images (unless I needed them to prestige pages, but I would not place them if they had already a green star). The point was that I could have a head start if the next family XP quest comes around. However, now I need to place pictures to get the blue SOS stuff.
Kind of torn about what to do now. The last brilliant event didn't have a family XP component, so maybe they won't happen in future events and I can place pictures again?
@HalloMami I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the upcoming wizarding weekend will contain earning 800 LOH Family XP. So no, that is not a task that has gone away for good.
Thanks for the info! So, not placing images it is then... 🤷♂️
@HalloMami With 3 days of LoH spawns, including Dumbledore, you should be able to complete that task fairly easily. I think fxp tasks are different when 8ncluded as part of special family boosted events.
@Magpie31 Oh, I'm not worried about that, I have 5 images lined in LoH up that I can place right away, so this will likely be the easist task of the bunch for me. Question was more what my plan will be going forward.
As I wrote in the OP, I dislike this type of quest is not because it is too hard (which is I guess what most people complained about), but rather because the general concept doesn't mesh with the rest of the game too well and players will start the task on very uneven playing fields.
@HalloMami I understand that concern, but in high spawn events, I really don't think it is an issue. The biggest problem are events like the BE where COMC spawns weren't adequately boosted.
