It's too easy to drop charms on the wrong teammate
Technically, this has always been the case but it feels like a bug. Feel free to move to an feature request if it's easier for tracking purposes.
Summary: When dragging a charm to a teammate, it's very easy to drop it too far to the left or right of the intended teammate and apply it to the next teammate. In my case, I want to drop the protection charm on my auror teammates first since they have the least stamina and defense. Occasionally, I'll drop it on myself (professor) or another professor or magi before the auror accidentally.
How to fix:
- Add a visual indicator when dragging a charm over a teammate. You could highlight them in a similar way that teammates who already with a charm are dimmed out when you tap the charm. If the wrong teammate is highlighted, I can quickly fix it and drop it on the right one.
I'm not the only one who has dropped the charm on the wrong person, either:
Other related "enhancements":
- Always have professions sorted left to right. As it is now, aurors can be in any of the 5 spots. There's no guarantee that the left or right most spot is an auror or any profession.
- Give each profession their own unique colors to better distinguish them. Sometimes as a professor, I'm red, or blue or purple, etc. The same randomness happens with other professions. If aurors are always the same colors, it will help discern the professions as a quick glance.

I like the color coded option. I’m not sure that will work though with colors already being used to determine who is fighting which foe.
Yeah, can't use colors to both show profession and who is fighting what, and I think being able to quickly figure out who is fighting what is more important. At least for professors who want to drop det hex on non-proficient matchups; probably other professions too.
Highlighting the teammate while dragging a charm on them sounds like a good idea and possibly easy to implement. Not a bug though.
It does get a little confusing. I know as an auror, I have inadvertently given my focus to other aurors when trying to pass it to the professor next to them. I have also been on the receiving end and usually realize what happened and simply pass it along. There is so much going on in those first few seconds of a battle that it's very easy to drag and drop to the wrong teammate. That said I wouldn't mind if as you drug the buff over the player it just increased the player image/ coin by 25% so you could confirm giving the buff to the intended teammate.
I got that happened but occasionally.
To me (or maybe my phone) is when dragging charm its very often come up the foe selecting screen as if i need to tap and hold the charm to properly dragging it to the needed team mate.
Also charm that effect for ALL teammates doesnt need to drag it isnt it. Maybe just comfirmation yes/no would be okay to prevent accidental casting.
@VanFanel842 There are indicators that show which player your charm will be implemented on, however they can be easily missed and might be different for each profession. I can’t say it’s the same for all professions, since I’ve only ever played as a Magizoologist, so for an example I’ll attach screenshots for when I’ve used the stamina charm. When I move the stamina charm over the icon of a player, I see a light around the stamina bar which pulses continuously, and if a player is at full stamina, their icon has a shadow over it to indicate it won’t work on them:
However, the indicators could be made a little more obvious, particularly since they can be easily hidden and missed when you move your finger over the player icons to cast your charm. That would make the experience better in a battle when using charms.
Also, just to clarify, in case you didn’t know, the icon colours assigned to each player are based on the order in which each player has entered the chamber waiting area. The first person in the area is red and the last is yellow. Once the battle starts that is how it’s sorted at the top from left to right. It’s in that order in the waiting area as well, however, you will always see yourself at the top of the list.
@Imaginatio Thank you! I haven't seen this before. I have some similar yellow radiating oval indicators on my charms as a professor, so that's proficiency and protection charms. As you have said, it's really hard to see unless you hover "slightly" over the person. If you move your finger on top of the person, your finger easily hides it.
So based on this information:
@VanFanel842 I’m sure you’re not the only one who’s missed them, particularly since I hadn’t noticed them before either. I was sure of some indicators being present, as I vaguely remember seeing something with bravery and the darkened icons on players with full stamina for the stamina charm, but I only had a close look to see if there were other indicators to identify the players when trying to cast a charm, when you mentioned it. The indicators can be missed very easily by players, so as you’ve suggested, there can be things done to make these indicators more obvious and therefore improve the experience in a battle.
Also, since we’re discussing the strategic spells, I would also like to mention hexes. As a magi, I don’t have any, so I haven’t had a look at them, but I’m guessing there are indicators for hexes too and that they may not be as obvious either. I’m sure some Professors and Aurors can chime in with their experience of using them and if it is a similar case to the charms, then it would be good to consider similar improvements for them as well.
I posted this elsewhere, but it seems appropriate to put it here as well. Everyone sees the glowys, this helps distinguish what you are seeing.
Above shows what hexes look like. Keep in mind, the 4:21 and 4:31 timer shows what it looks like when you tap and hold a hex and then when you hover over a foe. The oval gets larger but it's still not that great. It still works though because foes needing the same hex aren't often right next to each other unlike protection charm which I have to cast on everyone.
I really like the way they dim / shadow foes that already have the hex / can't be hexed in the last two screenshots. I wish the visual cue for the foe / teammate you're about to hex / charm was so visually distinctive.
Wow, this is really interesting to see. As a magi, my spells only go to players not foes so I hadn’t even seen some of this animation!
