Green houses
Greenhouses.... I dont fully understand how they are a benefit on the growing side of it. I get the collection of ingredients and energy, but when you plant something and it takes 6 hr and you have to go back and collect it ...doesn't seem rational. I plant something and forget which greenhouse I planted it at or when I can make it back it's gone 😣.
How are the rest of you handling the greenhouses with growing plants? Has anyone made it back to collect? If you contribute energy to its growth are you then also able to come back and collect or can only one person ? Does it disappear after a certain time if no one collects. What say yall?

Out of order responses.
I don't contribute energy unless it's readily available nearby or if the greenhouse is about to ripen and I need the ingredient.
I plant short growing time stuff if I'm going to be in the area for a while.
We should always be planting. Seeds and water are free, if you need something then the odds favor someone else needing it too. If greenhouses are always blooming then someone will benefit some time.
This strategy may be different in areas with few greenhouses. Then the community should collaborate either in real time or by creating a schedule by that benefits everyone. You plant a long growing crop for me, I harvest it and plant one for you and so on.
I like the share and share alike take on it !! Thanks for your take on it .
I work across the street from a greenhouse so can grow even an 8 hr and still collect. I will contribute as well to stock up and not have to rely upon finding what I need in the wild.
If I come across something I see someone growing, I will normally up it to X2 just to be nice.
Earlier today I spent the energy to get a wormwood (1 hour) up to X9 since I knew I would be in the area. When it dropped, there was TONS of Wormwood lying about everywhere. sometimes at X1 its hard to tell if it worked or not, but if you drop the energy to get more if you're going to be around it was worth it. I have been cooking up Health potions all day due to the influx of the Wormwood.
How many seed packets and how much water should I regularly keep on hand?
Hi @Morgana4 . This is more based off of your own personal preference. For me, I try to always keep at least 10 spaces open just in case I come across some seeds that I need/want.
Seeds are not really "needed" throughout the game so if you choose to keep very few on hand, it wouldn't hurt you as long as you are collecting enough ingredients from the map or greenhouses to make your potions.
However, I do like collecting seeds and water so that I can plant them in greenhouses to help the next witch/wizard who happens to be there to harvest what I planted at the greenhouses! Gotta help our fellow wizards and witches :) what goes around comes around
@daishar84 I agree, Green Houses need work.
My proposal: Get rid of the ingredient drops in the world so that Green Houses are more valuable. As it stands now, you can brew most potions from just picking ingredients up on the ground.
Also, if your yield was mailed to you versus having to return to the Green House from 1hr-24hr depending on what you plant, that would be much better too.
I like the altruism I’m seeing here, but incentivizing the use of greenhouses would be more beneficial for everyone. I’m embarrassed to admit that ‘paying it forward ‘ never occurred to me.
Giving increases happiness. I plant several times daily at random greenhouses around town, often with no intention to return and collect the reward. Sometimes I'll contribute max energy to something I planted, or if I spot one another person has planted. It makes me smile to think of someone walking by at the right moment and stumbling upon an entire field of leaping toadstools! Maybe nobody will be there at the right time, but that's okay. Technically, it's already a waste of one's time just playing this game to begin with, so I don't see any harm in using a little of that wasted time and energy on the possibility of improving someone's day. For myself, the two things I plant most commonly are leaping toadstools and snowdrop. I have a greenhouse near my apartment that's easy to return to, plus there's a HPWU map out there that includes a very handy feature... a timer on greenhouses! The map isn't terribly accurate, but as a logged in user you can add, edit, and remove points of interest to match up with the game. I, along with a couple friends, have been slowly working on getting all the landmarks updated and accurate for our town.
Im kinda mad. I planted toadstools, returned 24 hours and 10 min later and nothing! Nothing! Ive done this a few times. Greenhouses need to be fixed, you put in you get SOMETHING! pointless wasted time. Only once on vacation in another state, did i see the described bloom around the greenhouse.
From what I read, the ingredient only appears for those that either planted it or contributed to it. Each person should get their own yield. I plant just to plant. It bumps up my count. There doesn't seem to be a seed shortage. Water is the limiting commodity for me.
@WellFudge it should appear for everyone. I’ve happened across some that I didn’t even know the greenhouse had been active, but the harvest was available for pick up. No one can take it from others, it’s available for all.
The ingredients apper on the map, not in the greenhouse ( this confuses a lot of people). It can also appear in a wide area so you might want to walk around abit to find all spawns.
Since it's on the map it appears to everybody (for 30min) regardless of contribution, and does not disappear just because someone else picked it up.
While it's not very common, I've seen the same thing that @LadySydnee is reporting. I was certain I had returned at the right time. I use the WU World Map to track the time on anything I plant in a nearby greenhouse that I plan to return and collect. I wandered all around the general area because, as @Xell75 mentioned, the ingredient you've grown will spawn outside of the greenhouse anywhere within what appears to be a fairly wide radius. Despite hanging out there for 15 minutes or so, the ingredient I grew never appeared. This has happened to me twice out of a few dozen times. I can't say for certain that it wasn't user error, but I don't think it was.
This is all really really helpful information. I had no idea how greenhouses worked. Thanks everyone!
Also, I, too am adding to the map. Nothing in the area I live in is on it.
I have only collected once maybe twice. I plant & leave it for someone else that might need it. I have also planted stuff to help my daughter out with her game. I do not want to be put in situation where I have to rely on greenhouse to make potions. That would be too difficult. But I do like the idea of them being sent to you when they are done & maybe get options to keep or donate to the map for others when planting.
Also I usually don’t collect also because I simply don’t have time. I work 12 hr shifts & have 1 hr drive round trip. So I spend too much time on the game as is. I don’t usually have time to go back to collect. Albeit why I plant to be nice to someone else.
I do the same as @Osprey1 basically. I really love working with the greenhouses. Although sometimes I'm lazy and don't wanna walk and get all of the ones near me, haha.
I work in a large mall in a large city. There are 11 greenhouses in the mall. I love going in early and planting. I plant fast growing ingredients all the way up to toadstools. And if I happen to max and harvest toadstools I always replant them for someone else. It's also fun to load up on ingredients before I go home and drop them in smaller neighborhoods and parks.
I just had a new greenhouse pop up within reach from my apartment, thanks to a high level Ingress Agent friend who submitted a POI request for me. I would have preferred an Inn, but those who submit and review the requests don't get to determine the POI type. It's still nice though because it'll occasionally award 4 spell energy with other ingredients, and it allows me to stock up on snowdrop from home. Some time ago, I saw someone post how to get spell energy from a greenhouse every time. The three plants look slightly different and they end up in the same place every time after the scramble. Apparently though, the one with spell energy is sometimes visible top-center in the first moment when you enter a greenhouse. The easiest way to identify it is to look at the main stem. It either angles to the right, straight up, or to the left. For a while, this seemed accurate. I was able to tell which one would grant spell energy every time. Lately though, it's usually too hard to get a good look at the top one before it moves to the right. Perhaps this little trick was "fixed".
It is fun and annoying using this feature. Im lucky to have 2 greenhouses within 5" walk from home. I'll share what I do.
Its easy and fast to pull something from the pots waiting.... spell energy sometimes. too much ginger other times. \[email protected]/
I plan to plant what I need, in advance, and when to harvest. I set alarm timer to remind me to go back to the greenhouses later. For Baruffios, it takes 24 hrs. I always always ALWAYS add to increase yield for this one.... I try to make and grab 4.
If you arrive a little early ( or check status by tapping the greenhouse when at a distance, it tells you how much longer, and what is growing), you can watch the item spawn on the ground around the greenhouse. If there are indeed multiple items, they can be picked up by several people. I read that the items remain after the growing is complete for only 45 minutes. Or was it an hour?
I also try to locate greenhouses near where Im working. Im a Carpenter, who travels to gigs around town..... so there are plenty to choose from. as far as greenhouses go. Some seeds take an hour. Some take 7. Lunchbreaks and getting set to go home become possible pickup times.
Looking at the Achievements feature, there is a section for Ingredients Seeds planted. Im working on Section 3 now. You get a little reward at 500 here, of 20 gold. Im at 63... so long haul.
Lastly, I fully have deluded myself to believe that the AI of the game appreciates me if I commit random acts of kindness, and plant ANY seeds and never go back to Harvest. Why you may ask? Well, it has happened to me, frequently now, when I need Snowdrop or Bitterroot or Sneezewort, they tend to appear. And, Altruism here helps other players, right?
When you get down to the tiny grains of this game, there are a lot of fine little details and touches and honest to God chores you might need to do. Potion-eering requires ingredients. Some you have to make 'em yourself.
Reading through some of the above posts, IC most of have the same ideas and intentions and approaches to this task.
Lastly, the WU wizards unite world map. Use it, Add to it. And it has timers for the greenhouses for you.

Unfortunately I am not very mobile. I have nothing near my home to pick up. There are a couple fortresses but I cant get to them. Once in a while a friend picks me up and I can get ingredients. However usually I just have to pay for them. There is a potion to attract trace, so I actually get to do something for 30 minutes during the potion. Can someone tell me if there is a potion to attract ingredients?
They should get convert all the green houses to inns and towers
Then make the growing screen local to you like the brewing screen
I like that, @cheatch. I've seen many players propose the idea to convert greenhouses to inns and fortresses and just do away with growing ingredients entirely, but I like the idea of having your own greenhouse just like having your own cauldron much better. You could even have a rental greenhouse, should the need arise.
Oh that's interesting. Like I said I totally enjoy the greenhouses, especially because it gets me out of the house for more than just fortress daily battles. But having a private greenhouse would also be adorable, haha.
