Established Player, New to the Community Forum
Greetings from Nevada, USA!
I joined the discussion community today but I have been actively playing the game since it first launched. I would like to consider myself an experienced player however, I am new to the discussion community and the friending aspect as I’ve always played solo.
The gifting aspect is self explanatory but when friending, how do you communicate with your friends? On here or on WU directly?
When it comes to Wizarding challenges, I’m fairly experienced in completing challenges with other players but it is random teammates (knight bus). Before the knight bus, I did my challenges solo. Once I’ve established some friends, is there a way to coordinate challenges without having to be at the same location?
Even though I’m an established player, I now feel like an amateur...especially after reading some the discussions and seeing how detailed/experienced/high ranked some of you are. I have a lot of learning and catching up to do apparently lol
On that note - feel free to add me! I’ve never had an opportunity to gift so I’ll gift what you need/want since I’m at the max capacity for gifts and I’m close to several inns/greenhouses/fortresses, so I can restock easily.

Hi @MJayne and welcome to the forum! We’re glad you’re here.
As there’s no way to communicate within the game itself, we use other means to do so. Many of us have found and made friends through this forum. We talk through posts on here and learn more about each other.
We also get to chat with players on Discord. It’s another app where you can message back and forth, and there are “servers” set up for specific things, such as HPWU.
Those are the main ways I think most of us link up. Through Discord, for example, you can message a lot faster. This enables you to coordinate with a group to try to get a group fortress session going.
I was like you in mostly soloing before the Knight Bus. I think many of us were. But this forum is a great place to learn! There are plenty of resources geared towards team play.
Let us know if you need anything!
@MrSciGuy I had no idea about discord! I’ll have to check it out! Thank you! :)
Here’s the link to the main HPWU Discord:
Welcome @MJayne
as an established player, there are many interesting/positive threads here you can participate in to share your knowledge and how you play 😊
@Milliebob13 I’m excited about this! Lol
@MJayne Welcome to the community. It is great to have you here!
As others have said, there is no in game communication at the moment. Discord is great for meeting new people and chatting. The forum used to be, and we are trying to revive that a bit at the moment.
Once you start playing with others, it makes a huge difference to the experience! Like you, I played solo until the arrival of the Knight Bus and now I get to fortress and chat with my HP friends almost every day. It is wonderful! You will also gain your xo a lot quicker and climb those levels!
Please keep chatting on the different threads - we would love to get to know you better!
@Magpie31 @MrSciGuy I am finding discord to be slightly confusing lol it is more complex then what I pictured before downloading it. I have yet to introduce myself on that platform/server but the more I click on things, the less confusing and easier it’s becoming lol
@MJayne Personally, I would turn off notifications for that big server. Also, I just tend to check in on Game News, Great Hall and Knight Bus. Basically, find the channels that interest you and don't try to keep up with everything.
@Magpie31 I denied notifications from the start just because lol once I finished the setup process and explored the channels, all I could think was thank goodness I did deny notifications because it would drive me bonkers being flooded with them lol
@MJayne yeah, discord confused me for a while too! 😂 I’m not good with new things but I’ve persevered and can pretend I know what I’m talking about now. LOL 😂 😂😂😂
@Milliebob13 You mean you aren't the fountain of all knowledge? 🤔
@MJayne welcome to the forum!!
I was the same as you always solo b4 the Knight bus, and I think the thing I'm finding the most confusing but equally the most interesting is learning how the other professions to Auror work.
By joining the discord I've been able to learn how important it is to pass focus & then with luck you'll have a good professor who gets shields up in the highest chambers that's crucial! And to the Magi to get bravery up, then the professor will get det hex going and the team can fly through the foes even in Dark V with everone sticking to their proficiency foes when possible.
Within game- if there were a button players could press to say 'I'm free now- get out of the acro or erkling' cos i can **** it in one & you'll be there all day etc that would be perfect! lol
I hadn't a clue with group battle but I'm learning every day & loving it!! And once you get the mix right you can do Dark V using few potions & much less SE than I thought was possible.
We all got to know each other through this forum, so I look forward to seeing you post here & let us know about your experiences both in fortress & on the map, I love to hear about others tales of the game 😊
Somebody wrote out the rules of thumb for WU a good while ago it was hilarious- probably @Acumen or it might have been @ZookiTabooki I'm not sure- anyway, it was along the lines of - if you need the confoundable- it will always depart- as soon as you've placed it but still can't prestige yet (b4 the green stars etc) expect to see it every day & get it first cast.... and things of that nature 😂 every single one rang true & it was good to hear that I wasn't the only mad woman screaming at her phone in the street when quidditch Luna or the Thestral departed for the millionth time!! 🤦🏼♀️🤣
Have fun pottering!! 😃
Yes @MJayne Discord can be intimidating at first! But as the others have said, you’ll figure it out pretty quickly. Probably a good idea not to have notifications on. And as @Magpie31 said just pop into the channels (“Great Hall” is general chat and tends to be most active) that interest you. Some are official updates and won’t let you post in them; they’re just informational. And again, don’t try to keep up with all of them or you’ll drive yourself crazy!
@AuroraKadavra I was already aware of challenge/battle/profession roles in group battles because WU actually stated some tips in one of their news updates when the knight bus was added. And not to brag or gloat, I am a challenge champion hehehe ;)
I am just new on the community discussion and discord but it is fun exploring and reading stuff that I didn’t know before!
@MrSciGuy I feel like discord will be one that I rarely use unless I really need help/tips/etc. lol
@MJayne Hi and welcome to the forum! (I know it’s a little late, but I had to say it too 😊)
Discord has a bit of a learning curve, but once you’ve figured it out, it’s quite useful. Particularly if you find people to fortress with on there, at which point it’s great for coordinating fortress battles on the Knight bus.
@Imaginatio how do I find people to fortress with? Just by posting and coordinating times?
@Magpie31 not the fountain of all knowledge at all 😂😂 just a hippity 🦄
@MJayne oh I'm so sorry- I didn't mean to sound as though you didn't know what you were doing! I knew from the title of thread like u said you're just new to forum, not to the game.
You'll have to excuse me- i was describing the scenario as I experienced it moving from solo to group play on Knight bus- and what I've come to learn by being on discord and listening to the other players tactics & thinking- oki koki- so that's how best to do it lol.
I'm totally down with being an Auror but was meaning I'm just wary of going in as professor & even tho I've read the tips that came out with knight bus & things on the Hub, i still think the only way il get to confidently play 2 professions is to just dive in & give it a go! 🙈😂
My apologies if it sounded as though I were assuming you would be unsure about anything- defo not my intention- it was meant as describing what I've been experiencing in group battles now & the tips ive picked up from thankfully having discord to communicate through, otherwise I'm having to guess what the prof & magi will do, but have still been surprised at how much easier Dark V is with a full team & barely need any potions!!Loving it! 😃
Tho I feel I'm defo still a while off 'challenge champion' in 2nd profession- despite what my title page says!! 😂😂
@AuroraKadavra no worries, I didn’t think you were trying to sound like that and I didn’t mean to come off as defensive or even conceited either Lol I’m quite aware that the title means nothing compared some of the achievements of advanced players. And to be fair, I have not started a 2nd profession yet. I still have a lot to learn for sure.
@MJayne ahh no worries at all hon, I just didn't want you to think I was sounding like that- so that's fab you hadn't taken it that way... phew! I'm quite a sensitive creature lol and i would hate to think that I'd ever come across in that way.
I'm still at the point where I've got all the lessons under my belt but never played as professor yet- I'm scared!! 😂 I'll admit it, I need to pluck up courage and just dive in but defo needs to be with friends i can chat to on discord first so that i can constantly apologise & have their great advice giving me a shout what to do! Lol. Itl be carnage at first I'm sure- but il get there.
Let me know how you go hon if u not mind & any tips/tricks you pick up would be great 😊
